Identification
1.1
Short description
An AUMATIC equipped with a Bluetooth interface enables the wireless
connection to a computer.
The Bluetooth interface is equipped with a class 2 chip with a range of up to
10 m. The interface supports the SPP (Serial Port Profile) Bluetooth protocol.
Operation, setting, and data request are realised via the AUMA COM-AC
software.

External features
The AUMATIC with Bluetooth interface has an extended display screen on
the local controls.
An LED is located in the background (designated as BT), illuminated in blue,
when the Bluetooth connection between the computer and the AUMATIC is
complete.

Commissioning
The AUMATIC can be commissioned with the following Bluetooth components (for prerequisites, please refer to sub-clause 1.2).

Setting up the connection to the AUMATIC

This sub-clause describes:
Connection via BlueFRITZ! USB stick (sub-clause 2.1.1)
(recommended by AUMA)
Connection with integral Bluetooth interface (sub-clause 2.1.2)
Connection via PDA (sub-clause 2.1.3)
2.1.1 Connection to the AUMATIC via BlueFRITZ! USB stick
This sub-clause describes the connection between the “BlueFRITZ!”
Bluetooth stick by AVM and an AUMATIC.
Please refer to the instructions by AVM (www.avm.de) for installing the pertaining software components.
1. Switch on the computer.
When connecting via BlueFRITZ!, the program symbol is displayed in
the computer’s taskbar.
Bluetooth connection active:
(blue radio wave)
No Bluetooth connection active:
(black radio wave)
2. Start the connection manager. To start BlueFRITZ! double-click the
program icon.
The computer searches for suitable Bluetooth remote sites in your vicinity. All Bluetooth devices that are compatible are displayed in a list.
For BlueFRITZ!, the devices are listed in the “Find and select Bluetooth
Device” window.
The window only appears at the start if a new device has been found.
Otherwise the BlueFRITZ! window opens immediately.
AUMA controls can be identified by their works number (refer to the
AUMATIC name plate) or any other ID which has been determined by
the user, e.g. the valve number.

According to the factory setting (if parameter has not been modified), the
AUMATIC reports with its works number as shown (Bluetooth device name).
If the VALVE NO. parameter is modified, e.g. in “My AUMA actuator”, the
AUMATIC reports with this ID.
3. Select the AUMATIC (Bluetooth device) with which the connection
should be established.
4. Confirm with “Select Bluetooth Device”.
When connecting for the first time, a window for entering the Bluetooth
password opens.
The Bluetooth password can be queried via the AUMATIC display.

5. Enter Bluetooth password.
The Bluetooth connection is established.

Clear the connection (via BlueFRITZ! USB)
Ò Click the connection icon and select Clear from... All.
Re-establish the connection to the AUMATIC (Bluetooth device)
1. Double click the
program icon.
The BlueFRITZ! connection manager opens.
2. Click the connection icon and select Connect with... All .
The new connection is established. The LED (designated as BT) on the
local controls of the AUMATIC is illuminated in blue.

Accept new device (AUMATIC) into a Bluetooth environment.
1. Double click the
program icon.
The BlueFRITZ! connection manager opens.
2. Click the Bluetooth stick displayed in the “Local Bluetooth Device” box.
The following window is displayed:
3. Click “Search for New Bluetooth devices”.
All previously found devices are listed in the “Find and Select Bluetooth
Device” window.

2.1.2 Connection with integral Bluetooth interface within the computer
This sub-clause describes the installation and programming of a Bluetooth
device within Microsoft XP Service Pack (SP2).
Please visit http://support.microsoft.com. for further information.
Note
To allow establishment of a connection, the “Bluetooth radio connection”
function on your computer must be switched on ( Bluetooth icon on the
computer is illuminated).
It is furthermore possible to activate or deactivate the “Bluetooth radio connection” using the function keys (e.g. Fn+F5). Please check the required key
combinations in your computer description.
Start the Device Wizard
Is the
Bluetooth icon displayed on the taskbar of your computer?
If yes:
1. Click the symbol, then click View Bluetooth network devices.
If no:
1. Click Start, then click System control under Settings.
2. Start the Bluetooth device wizard ( icon) to add Bluetooth devices.
(If the symbol is not displayed, click the Change to conventional view
check box.)
In the Bluetooth Devices box, the Devices tab shows all devices that are
currently configured on your computer. By using the Devices tab, you can
add a device, remove a device, or view the properties of a device.
Adding a device (AUMATIC)
1. Click Add.
2. In the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard, click to select My device is set up
and ready to be found check box, and then click Next.
Note
You cannot click Next until you click to select the My device is set up and
ready to be found check box. A device that has discovery turned off cannot
be detected during a search.
When you click Next, your computer searches for any discoverable devices
that are in range. When the search is complete, the devices appear in the
wizard.
3. Select the device to be added, and then click Next.
The wizard indicates a field for entering a password.
4. Enter the password by selecting the Use password indicated in documentation field, and then click Next.
Once the password has been verified, the connection is complete.
The Bluetooth password can be queried via the AUMATIC display.

5. Windows automatically assigns COM ports. Write down the Outgoing
COM port (COM port tab).
You require the outgoing COM port to communicate with the COM-AC
software (observe note on page 12).
6. Click the Complete box to finalise the process.

2.1.3 Connection via Pocket PC (PDA)
This sub-clause describes the connection between an AUMATIC and a Pocket
PC (PDA) as well as the COM-AC-PDA software.
This description applies to the Windows Mobile 2003 and Windows Mobile
5.0 operating systems.
Settings under Windows Mobile 2003:
Ò Switch on PDA.
1. Click the
symbol, then Bluetooth settings.
To allow establishment of a connection, the “Bluetooth radio connection” on
your PDA must be both available and activated ( Bluetooth symbol on the
PDA is illuminated or blue Bluetooth LED is blinking).
2. Change to the SerialPort tab.
3. Write down the Outbound COM Port in the Ports menu.
(This port is subsequently required to connect the AUMATIC via the
COM-AC-PDA software.)
4. Close the window and go to the desktop.
Settings under Windows Mobile 5.0:
Ò Switch on PDA.
1. Start the manager for wireless signal transmission clicking on Start >
iPAQ Wireless or clicking the “wireless radio connection” symbol in the
PDA information bar.
To allow establishment of a connection, the “Bluetooth radio connection” on
your PDA must be activated (Bluetooth button with
symbol on the PDA is
illuminated in green or blue Bluetooth LED is blinking).
2. Click Settings and then the Services tab.
3. Click SerialPort then Advanced...and note the Outbound COM Port.
(This port is subsequently required to connect the AUMATIC via the
COM-AC-PDA software.)
4. Close all windows and go to the desktop.

5. Start the COM-AC-PDA software clicking Start > Programs >
COM-AC-PDA.
The default settings are displayed after starting the COM-AC-PDA. The
connection to the AUMATIC is not yet established.
6. Enter the COM port noted above clicking Menu > CommPort
Now you may read the data from the AUMATIC.
7. Click the Read or Connect button (this depends on the tab which is currently active).
The PDA searches for suitable Bluetooth remote sites in your vicinity. All
Bluetooth devices that are compatible are listed in the Select a
Bluetooth device window.
Information

If the VALVE NO. parameter is modified, e.g. in “My AUMA actuator”, the

Important note

Click Menu and Exit in the taskbar if you wish to exit the COM-AC-PDA program. When closing the program via the cross (X) on the top right corner,
you may only restart the software after a PDA reset.

2.2
Starting the COM-AC software
This sub-clause is valid for the COM-AC software installed on your computer
and not for the Pocket PC (PDA) version.
Ò Start COM-AC.
Set COM interface
A connection can only be established once the correct COM-AC interface
has been selected (refer to arrow and page 12).

When connecting to an integral Bluetooth interface
The LED (designated as BT) on the local controls of the AUMATIC is illuminated in blue if the COM-AC has established a connection via the COM
port.
The established wireless Bluetooth connection is used for data transmission
from the AUMATIC to the COM-AC.
Information regarding the operation of COM-AC is described in the COM-AC
Online help.

Troubleshooting
3.1
Error during commissioning

3.1.1 The AUMATIC (Bluetooth device) cannot be found
Ò Check distance between computer and AUMATIC.
Range approx. 10 m. Reduce distance.
Ò Check the AUMATIC power supply.
The AUMATIC must be switched on.
3.1.2 The connection/registration of the AUMATIC (Bluetooth device) fails
Ò Check Bluetooth password.
Ò Respect writing in upper or lower case.
3.1.3 The COM-AC software cannot establish communication to the AUMATIC
Ò Use an up-to-date COM-AC software version.
The latest COM-AC software can be downloaded from the Internet:
www.auma.com in the Support/Software section.
Ò Use the Online help of the COM-AC software.
Click the help button to start the Online help.
Ò Are you using the correct COM port?
When connecting to a device equipped with an integral Bluetooth
interface, the COM port can be requested via the Bluetooth device wizard. You must enter the outgoing COM port into the COM-AC.
Note
Windows automatically assigns COM ports. The COM port is automatically incremented by one for each new connection. Should connection
problems occur between the COM-AC and the actuator, please use
COM ports between 1 and 10.
The computer COM ports can be modified via the system control (system/hardware/device manager).
When connecting via BlueFRITZ! USB, you may request the COM
port clicking the BlueFRITZ stick
and then under Properties > General:
