ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) Student Chapter inaugurated
at Shiv Nadar University
The Department of Mechanical Engineering organized the inauguration ceremony of ASME Student
Chapter. Dr. Madhukar Sharma, President and Director of ASME India, formally launched the ASME
chapter along with the Vice Chancellor, Shiv Nadar University, Prof. Rupamanjari Ghosh.

In her inaugural speech, Prof. Ghosh emphasized that activities outside the classroom through various
clubs and societies are imperative for students, to expand their mind and to seek a true perspective of
the impact of their education. Dr. Sharma in his talk on the topic of “Engineering in next 20 years” briefed
the audience about ASME. Shiv Nadar University is the 98th section of ASME India.
Dr. Santanu Mitra, Head, Mechanical Engineering Department added in his inaugural speech that the
Department is proud to have ASME chapter at SNU as it is unique and one of the broadest knowledge
sharing platform in Mechanical Engineering discipline. He also encouraged students to join this chapter
and come up with new ideas and innovation.
ASME Faculty Advisor Mr. Nishant Mishra mentioned about different inter-disciplinary societies and clubs
e.g., SAE Collegiate Club, RoboYantriki etc. existing in SNU and emphasized that ASME Chapter will play a
key role in giving further momentum to student activities at SNU. Dr. Ganeshthangaraj Ponniah, ASME
Student Chapter Coordinator shared a list of activities that the section is planning to pursue in the next
one year and encouraged students for active participation. Ashwin Selvan, 3rd Year ME Student was
declared as the interim Student Chairperson for the ASME Chapter.
ASME is a not-for-profit membership organization that enables collaboration, knowledge sharing, career
enrichment, and skills development across all engineering disciplines, toward a goal of helping the global
engineering community develop solutions to benefit lives and livelihoods. It promotes the art, science &
practice of multidisciplinary engineering and allied sciences around the globe. ASME has members across
150+ countries with more than 1,30,000 members.
