Reichardt – Sports Spectacular Robotics - Explore sports ranging from gymnastics to biking, mini-golf to soccer! This unit is a great way to get “sporty” kids building and get LEGO® fans interested in sports. Some lessons focus on the importance of physical fitness and different aspects of fitness while other lessons describe the mechanics of the sport. But the best part is the way the models move and the fun they have playing with them after they’re built – hitting a plastic golf ball with the mini golf model or watching the gymnast spin around the bar. Bielamowicz - Transform into an engineer with hands-on projects like designing roller coasters and propeller cars. Get to know your world on an elemental level by becoming a budding scientist who explores chemical reactions by building volcanoes and creating a rocket to launch into the sky! This STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) class is perfect for the curious minded student who loves to build, create and see how things work! Room A1 Camp Einstein BA 05 Th 3-4 pm 3/31-5/12 $140 Engr & Science - II (3-5) C. Bielamowicz - In this Session II class we will be doing projects in both engineering and science. Design motorized cars and foam rockets! Learn about blood typing and pH testing! This Session II class will offer different engineering and science lessons from Session I. Students from Session I are encouraged to sign up but new students are also welcome. Room A1 Crafty Circuits (3-5) BA 06 W 3-4 pm 3/23-4/27 $115 Action Potential Learning, S. Pond – Learn about circuits by building conductive crafts! Students will become futuristic designers by creating buzzbots, light up bands, touch sensors using conductive dough, and more! Students will learn electrical engineering principles using actual breadboards and circuitry and will explore various electrical components as they combine crafts with circuits. Pond – Build a unique robot, create a musical instrument, or power crazy creations with light, sound, or touch. Using Littlebits™ electronic components, Lego® pieces, and assorted craft materials, students will be introduced to simple circuitry, engaging engineering, and the fun of inventing and building. Each day, students will work together to develop and build their own unique, new inventions centered on unique design challenges. Room D3 Little Bits Inventors II (3-5) BA 09 Th 3-4 pm 3/24-4/28 $110 Action Potential Learning, S. Pond – Perfect your building and engineering skills by testing and inventing creations that solve problems! Using Littlebits ™electronic components, Lego® pieces, and assorted crafts, students will continue to build and invent new contraptions from creating a “clap-on-light” to an intruder alarm. Students will work together to develop and build their own unique, new inventions centered on unique design challenges. In Session II, students will expand upon the principles behind many physics, engineering, and mathematical concepts and make their unique inventions come to life. Students do not need to take Session I in order to take Session II. Room D3 MaupBall - A (3-5) BA 10 W 3-4 pm 2/3-3/2 $35 MaupBall - B (3-5) BA 11 W 3-4 pm 4/6-5/4 $35 T. Crosby – MaupBall is a combination of basketball and team handball. It is a fast-paced, competitive game that promotes TEAM play. This is excellent for body conditioning, helps in development of hand/eye coordination, and can be played indoors or out. The object of the game is to pass the ball from teammate to teammate, taking only 3 steps (while in possession of the ball) and holding the ball for only 3 seconds. The ball is passed around until it is thrown to the goalie, who must catch and maintain possession of the ball while standing on the score zone mat. Bales gym Rube Goldberg II (3-5) BA 14 W 3-4 pm 2/3-3/9 $105 Action Potential Learning, S. Pond – Perfect engineering skills by testing and inventing crazy contraptions that solve simple tasks! Students will build simple machines from wood, cups, marbles, dominoes, balloons, circuit boards and more. We will create unique inventions to turn simple tasks into multi-step engineering processes. In this Session II class, students will expand upon the principles behind many physics, engineering, and mathematical concepts and make their unique contraptions come to life. Bales gym Science of Rockets (4-5) BA 17 T 3-4 pm 2/9-3/8 $100 S. Appel - This really is rocket science! Welcome to rocketry class where the sky is the limit. From Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion to aerodynamics, flying rockets are chock full of great science and math lessons. Explore how engineers have developed rockets over the years, and learn about the principles of rocketry. Construct a balloon rocket car and a soda bottle rocket. Class will conclude with launching rockets 1000 feet into the air! This course prepares youths ages 11 and up with the training every parent wants in a babysitter: safety, basic child care, safe play, first aid/critical emergency skills and leadership!
