Mrs. Candice Wright
We hope you are excited for the upcoming summer to spend with
your children! May was a very busy month for us in Kindergarten. We
finished all of our letters and sounds and are still working hard to master many more
sight words. We will be assessing each child individually for the last report card that
will be mailed home at the end of the year. Please work with your child on areas that
were difficult for them, as it is imperative that they do not take steps backwards during
the summer.
For the rest of the year we will be reading and writing sentences and short stories. The
children have developed a love for reading and writing, as it is very apparent during writer's
workshop and guided reading lessons. Please continue to read with your child over the
summer. They should be able to retell a story in their own word including characters, setting,
and chronological order. Also remember to practice addition and subtraction math facts in
order to maintain fluency.
We are very proud of each and every one of them. They have made
amazing progress this year. Continue to encourage independence and praise
them for their accomplishments. Thank you for all of your cooperation and
support throughout the year. Have a wonderful summer. We will see you in the
fall.

What a fantastic year we have had in first grade! First graders have
come such a long way and learned so much. We are very proud of their hard
work! It has been a true joy to see their accomplishments and progress along
the way. We are such the parents are just as amazed to see the academic,
social, and emotional growth of our first graders this year.
It is important to keep the students’ minds sharp over the summer months. Here
are some suggestions that your child can do throughout the summer: 1. have a weekly
addition and subtraction flashcard drill with a parent or friend, 2. write a letter to a friend or
relative, 3. keep a weekly journal documenting the fun you are having over the summer, 4.
practice using Raz-kids.com and MobyMax.com 5. READ, READ, READ!!!
Final report cards will be sent home in June. The last day of classes is Tuesday,
June 7th. Students will eat picnic lunches outside on this day. Thank you again for all of
the parent involvement and support this year. We have had a great year teaching all of
your children! Lastly, we wish you all a very safe and fun summer!
Second Grade
Mrs. Barbara Marks, Mrs. Jan Johnson,
Mrs. Lindsey Koch, Miss Jen Mohr
Our annual Talent Show will be June 6th at 8:30. Family and friends are
invited to see our talented 2nd graders! This is the only year they have this
opportunity. We hope you have a relaxing summer and enjoy your children being at
home. Some suggestions for your soon to be 3rd graders to keep up on their skills would be
practice their math facts, write stories and poems. Please have them read throughout the
summer. Our Boardman Library has a great summer reading program with incentives, prizes,
and special guests. An everyday setting can be used as a learning experience. Have the
children count change when shopping. If traveling, have them map your route. Have them
tell you the time of day and how many hours until dinner, etc. These are all skills they have
learned and need to be reinforced.
It has been a great year and thank you for letting us be part of your child’s life. They
have grown and matured this last year and are ready for third grade. Thanks for your support
this past school year. Our best wishes to all of our students and their families for a safe,
happy, and fun-filled summer.

Third Grade
Mrs. Kate Curtis, Mrs. Stephanie Racz,
Mrs. Susan McConnell , Mrs. Lindsay Koch
It’s hard to believe that this school year is almost over. It seems like only
yesterday we were greeting you at Open House. We are always amazed and
pleased with the growth children make during the third grade, and we hope you
are too. We have done our best to prepare them for fourth grade and beyond.
While summer is a time to relax and regroup, we hope you will consider some
activities that are educational and fun, as well. Mill Creek Park and Boardman Park are
treasures right in our backyard. Call the park offices to see what programs they have during
the summer, or plan some hikes on your own. Summer is also a great time to plan a trip to
Butler Museum of American Art or the Oh Wow! Children’s Museum in downtown Youngstown.
Cleveland and Pittsburgh both have wonderful zoos and museums. A day trip to either one of
these cities is fun for the whole family.
Check into the summer reading program at the Boardman Library. Children should
read a little bit every day during the summer. Best of all the library is free!
Your children have done a fantastic job learning their multiplication and division facts
during the school year. They will forget these if they do not review during
the summer. Try to get in a little flash card time two or three times a
week. Games, including those of the computer, also help to make the
learning or retention of math facts fun.
Remember the last day of school is Tuesday, June 7th. As you
know, report cards will be mailed out soon after that date.
We have really enjoyed having your children in our classrooms this
year and we wish all of you and your families a fun, safe summer!

Fourth Grade
It is hard to believe that another school year has come to an end. We
are very proud of our students and the amount of work they accomplished this
year. They have grown both physically and academically. The skills that they
have learned will make them successful middle school students. They have experience in
trading classes, organizing, writing in planners and working well in a variety of groups.
Our visit to the new middle school, Boardman Center Intermediate School, was
wonderful. The children and staff are very excited for this new change. Hopefully, all parents
and students took advantage of the evening event at Center held in May. This meeting was
filled with all the information for the upcoming changes.
We had a wonderful May in fourth grade. The children enjoyed our field trip to Canton,
Ohio to visit the Pro Football Hall of Fame. We had a blast at Boardman Lanes bowling with
friends.
Fourth grade is currently planning our backyard picnic. It is a great day filled with yard games
and a picnic lunch.
Graduation this year is on Thursday, June 2nd at 7pm. Please make sure that all
guests have a ticket to attend. Tickets needed for graduation were mailed home in May. We
have limited seating. Teachers do not have tickets to give out. Finally, on the last day of
school, we have a picnic and the fourth grade “clap out”. Bring some Kleenex! It is always an
emotional day.
Thank you all for a great year. Have a wonderful summer.
As the end of the school year draws to a close there are
housekeeping issues to address. Parents who have children that have
medications in the clinic need to make arrangements to pick up their child’s
medication at the end of the school year. Those medications that are not
picked up will be thrown out. We DO NOT save medication for the
following year. It is Boardman Local School’s policy that no medication be
kept at school over the summer months.
In June, a new medication and information form will be sent home to have your
physician complete and return to the school with the appropriate
medication by the first day of classes.
If you have any questions or need to make arrangements, please
so not hesitate to contact me. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
