Slip-on, Wire-Wrap ® , TERMI-POINT ® Special connection terminal blocks General information In measurement and regulation systems, the conductor cross sections range mainly up to 1 .5 mm 2 . In addition to the "linear connection arrangements " , i .e . the common terminal strips with compact and narrow modular terminal blocks, for example with a screw connection, "two-dimensional arrangements " have become increasingly popular, i .e . connection fields with appropriate front connection techniques . These connection systems are : Slip-on, solder, springcage termination, wire-wrap and clip connection. Phoenix Contact offers a manifold selection of various terminal block models and special constructions for the interface area between electrics and electronics as 338 Phoenix Contact well as for marshalling distributors. This means that the required wiring techniques can be optimally adapted to the circumstances of installation. The marshalling plugs provide a high packing density with different connection methods . The simple mounting and convenient operation allow practical wiring and ensure reliable contacting of the conductors. We are always willing to advise you on individual developments to help solve any special problems. MIN Slip-on connection This connection method, which has been introduced worldwide and standardized in accordance with EN 61 210/VDE 0613-6, involves crimping a slip-on connection sleeve with a corresponding cross section on the stripped conductor end . Contact is made by pushing the slip-on connection sleeve onto the slip-on blade . In order to provide a good connection, attention must be paid to the size of the connection sleeve, the conductor cross section and the die of the fabrication tool. To support the conductor insulation, it is crimped together with the conductor to ensure strain relief between conductor and connection . Solder connection The solder connection has its origin in communication engineering and is nowadays still used in measurement and control plants . In the case of the manually soldered Phoenix Contact solder terminal blocks or solder connectors, the material, the shape and the preliminary tin-plating of the soldering tags fulfill the prerequisites for a good solder connection. The hole in the soldering tag or soldering basin not only facilitates work with the soldering iron and tinlead soldering, but also provides the essential mechanical strain relief of the conductor or the soldering point . TERMI-POINT ® clip connection In the case of clip connection in accordance with DIN 41 611-4, single or multi-core conductors up to 0 .5 mm 2 (AWG 20) are stripped in one operation by means of a pneumatically-operated special tool and are shot with a clip onto the rectangular pin so that they are gastight. The clip and the connection pin have to meet high standards with respect to mechanical stability, low dimensional tolerances and exact surface treatment . Spring-cage connection As in the case of the modular terminal blocks with spring-cage connection, a friction-locked contact between the conductor and the current carrying metal part is also guaranteed for the marshalling plugs with spring-cage connection. While solid conductors larger than 0 .75 mm 2 can be connected by simply pushing them in, thin or stranded conductors are inserted after pushing down the orange opening lever. The conductors are always disconnected by actuating the opening lever. Coil connection Wire-Wrap ® This kind of connection requires that solid strand conductors are coiled round a sharp-edged, angular or rectangular pin by means of a motor-driven pistol . The high pressure at the pin corners ensures gas-tight contact points. The coil connection is standardized in accordance with IEC 352-1/ DIN EN 352-1 . 4 to 8 coils with a conductor diameter of between 0.2 and 0 .8 mm (AWG 30-20) are necessary for a perfect connection. On the one hand, it has screw connections for 4 mm 2 stranded conductors, and on the other hand, it permits the connection of one 6 .3 mm slip-on sleeve or two 2 .8 mm slip-on sleeves . In addition, it is possible to connect polarized STG . . .-VKK multi-position module plugs on both levels and on both connection sides (instead of the 2 .8 mm connection sleeves). Due to the closed insulation housing, an end cover is no longer required as an accessory. The terminal block is 7 .62 mm wide in accordance with the pitch dimension of the multiposition module plugs . There is a slight level offset within the housing between the upper and the lower levels to improve accessibility to the lower level . The housing shows no level offset externally. Also to improve handling, the offset on the screw side is greater than on the slip-on connection side. The terminal blocks are supplied interlocked, i .e . as quick-mounting blocks of 10 which snap onto the NS 35/7,5 DIN rail. The outgoing conductors can be arranged on the slip-on connection side in guide lugs . In addition, the housing has angled slots in this area for mounting flat plug potential busbars. Phoenix Contact 345 Universal terminal blocks for screw and solder connection UK 2,5 types The soldering tags are in a zigzag arrangement in order to increase the mutual insulation spacing and to improve accessibility with the soldering iron . The soldering tag dimensions are 2 .8 x 0 .8 mm, which means that a common connection sleeve in accordance with DIN 46 247 can also be pushed on. The soldering tags have a 1 .2 mm 0 external hole in which solid connecting conductors up to 1 .5 mm 2 can be positioned and soldered to provide strain relief. Behind the hole there is a notch . This makes it easier to wrap thin connecting conductors or establish bridging connections to neighboring terminal blocks. An important prerequisite for correct solder points is for the heat provided by the soldering iron not to be "absorbed " by the subordinate metal parts . This is particularly important for thin connecting conductors with sensitive insulation . For this reason the soldering tag has an internal heat bottleneck with low thermal capacity at the end . At this point, it also has a 2 .3 mm 0 socket hole, enabling a test plug to be inserted from above for voltage connection (through the screw shafts). UK 4 types These terminal blocks are designed for large connection cross sections and a variety of circuitry options. The robust soldering flags allow connecting conductors of up to 2 .5 mm 2 to be soldered on with strain relief. Two pin dimensions are common : 1 x 1 mm and 0 .6 x 0 .6 mm. The length of the pin is usually measured for three coils. The connection must be broken to release it and in this case it is destroyed for ever. In accordance with the 8-bit pattern, 10 rows of 8 chambers are arranged horizontally in the marshalling plug housing. The marshalling plugs are available with the following connection techniques and combinations of these: 6 .3/2 .8 mm plug-in connection Solder connection Wire-Wrap' (WW) connection TERMI-POINT (TP) connection and Spring-cage connection. Each marshalling plug element can be marked with the standard labels, while the individual chamber coordinates are marked with marker pins. The potential busbar is subsequently inserted in grooves in the fitted marshalling plug blocks . This allows the reference voltage levels such as supply voltage, control ground or shielding to be comfortably supplied at any point . Assembly The antitorsion polyamide housing is provided with 4 mounting flanges which overlap neighboring marshalling plugs and simplify fitting. This means : dimensionally correct mounting with one screw for two flanges. Using the W 80-T/AL-NS 35 holder for the marshalling plug, any number of blocks can be aligned next to each other on the DIN rails, NS 35/7,5, NS 35/15 or NS 35/15-2,3 . The holder is made of aluminum and is fixed on the DIN rail in a pitch matching the dimensions of the marshalling plug. If marshalling plugs are to be mounted adjacently and on the top of each other, a supporting frame of 10 x 10 mm profiles is necessary. 350 Phoenix Contact 80-position with 6.32 .8 mm flat plugs I [A) 16 ') Connection data Slip-on connection 6 .3/2 .8 x 0 .8 mm Description Marshalling plug, 80-position, per chamber: one metal part with three 6 .3/2 .8 mm flat plugs on both sides Marshalling plug, 160-position, per chamber: two metal parts with two 2 .8 mm flat plugs on both sides Marshalling plug, 80-position, per chamber: one metal part with three 6 .3_/2 .8 mm flat plugs on one side and two 6 .3/2 .8 mm flat plugs and a solder connection on the other side Marshalling plug, 80-position, per chamber: one metal part with two 1 .5 mm2 spring-cage connections on one side and three 6 .3/2 .8-mm flat plugs on the other side Holder, for mounting on u, U, i f . for fixing marshalling plugs, aluminum . dimensions see drawing above Potential busbar with slotted 6 .3/2.8 mm flat plugs, ~,a~":AMR brass, tin-plated . length : 1 m OOO Plastic sheath'), as touch protection, for 6 .3 slip-on sleeves for 2 .8 slip-on sleeves Guide ring plastic, for looming conductors : is screwed on the supporting frame, bore hole : 6 mm 0 Equipotential busbar, with 2 .4 x 0-8 TP pins, pin spacing 7 .62 mm, bronze . tin-plated, length : 0 .76 rn Zack marker strip, 10-section, White Marker pin, plastic, unprinted : for individual labeling with M-PEN, printed : with 1, 2 or 3-figure characters, white Dimensions Technical data in accordance with IEC / DIN VDE Total current per metal part Rated surge voltage / contamination class Surge voltage category! insulating material group Connection capacity Stranded with 2 .6 mm slip-on sleeve Stranded with 6 .3 mm slip-on sleeve Insulation material Inflammability class in acc . with UL 94 ') U M 1000 ') Type Order No . The 4-position incoming and outgoing lines are mirror images of each other due to the U-shaped design of the metal pin, thus providing clear wiring of multiconductor cables twisted in groups of 8 . The pin length is sufficient for three clip connections one above the other. Yellow and gray housings are alternated in pairs in order to visually emphasize the groups of twists of 8 . Eyelets on the side of the housing facilitate tidy cabling. Plug connections are realized with the aid of module socket contacts and module plug housings, whereby a maximum of 8 positions can be combined in function groups . These are protected against mechanical stress by the strain relief, STGZ or STGZ 1. Switched-mode power supplies switch off their output and all connected loads for their own protection as soon as an overload or short circuit occurs in a load branch due to a fault. In this context, selectivity means that the ECP reacts more quickly to the overload or short circuit conditions in a load circuit than the switched-mode power supply does and therefore only switches off the faulty circuit. Miniature circuit-breakers with thermomagnetic triggering The combination of thermal and magnetic triggering effectively protects against overload as well as short circuits. Short circuit currents cause the magnetic part of the characteristic curve to operate almost without delay. Typical applications are in the area of information and communication technology, process controls, and with devices and systems that require a high degree of protection against overload and short circuits . All thermomagnetic circuit-breakers have integrated auxiliary contacts for individual monitoring of the switching status . Miniature circuit-breakers with thermal triggering The thermal triggering of equipment circuit-breakers depends on the level of the overload current . This makes them ideally suited as device protection for AC and DC consumers, e .g . to protect motors, transformers and actuators against overloads . The equipment circuit-breaker TCP can be inserted in basic terminal blocks and thus mounted on rails . An integrated switching function (press/press actuation) ensures high availability and high flexibility of the system. Power distribution through socket assembly The thermomagnetic circuit-breaker TMCP and the electronic circuit-breaker ECP are characterized by their user-friendly modular design . The TMCP-SOCKET-M socket element is used to mount the circuitbreakers on rails, allowing flexible installation with any number of positions . In addition, a free combination of the two circuit-breaker types on one module allows individual protection, regardless of which load is to be protected . The termination elements TMCP-CONNECT-LR are attached at the beginning and end of the module structure. 354 Phoenix Contact Signaling contacts Socket base TMCP-SOCKET-M allows individual signaling via the connections 11 and 12 . The signal can be called up separately for each circuit-breaker. A signal loop over all circuit-breakers can be realized quickly and without additional wiring via connections 13 and 14 in the termination elements ; all electrical connections of the main contacts and signal contacts are located in the socket element . (see TMCP wiring diagram) Backup fuse A backup fuse together with a circuitbreaker must always be used if there is the risk of the maximum switching current being exceeded in the event of a fault . The maximum switching current, the internal resistance and the resulting backup fuse are shown in the table below. The ECP 3-6 can be plugged onto the proven TMCP-SOCKET-M socket element which guarantees fast and easy mounting as well as a reduction in logistics costs. The area of application for the ECP 3-6 extends to all aspects connected with the power supply unit, since in the case of an overload, power supply units reduce the output voltage . As a consequence, the connected loads would no longer be sufficiently supplied . This means that if a fault occurs in one consumer of a system, the voltage will break down in all load circuits. The ECP 3-6 solves this problem by always limiting the maximum possible current to 1 .8 times the value of the set nominal current . Capacitive loads can thus be switched on, loads, however, are only switched off in the case of an overload or short circuit.
