Edition of the Electrical IRC is adopted installations for throughout the all structures State. are governed by the State Electrical Code. 2015 Promulgating Agency The State Department of Labor & Industries adopts and enforces the electrical code except in cities with their own electrical program. The State Building Code Council adopts all other construction codes. State Fire Marshalls Office 2000 Quarrier St. Charleston, WV 25305 Date Last Change Made to Report Notes 10/20/14 The State has also adopted the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC) in its entirety, including the electrical chapters. With the 2009 IRC containing the residential requirements from the 2005 NEC, there is inconsistency in technical requirements, as it has been determined that the electrical provisions of the IRC apply to buildings covered under that code. Therefor, a jurisdiction will enforce the 2011 NEC for apartments, condominium, and other multi-family dwellings, but revert to the 2005 NEC for one-family and two-family dwellings. On June 11, 2014, the Utah Uniform Building Code Commission recommended the adoption of the 2014 NEC to the State Legislature. The Legislature will vote on the adoption sometime in early 2015 with a possible effective date of July 1, 2015. The Utah Building Code web site is http://www.dopl.utah.gov/programs/ubc/. 7/14/14 The Vermont Electrical Code and Amendments can be viewed online at: http://firesafety.vermont.gov/sites/firesafety/files/pdf/License%20% 26%20TQP/ELECTRICAL%20RULES%202014%20NONANNOTA TED.pdf . 1/12/16 The 2011 NEC is included in the adoption of the 2012 Virginia Uniform Building Code. The code adoption is shown only as NFPA 70 in Chapter 27 of the Virginia UBC, with the NEC edition shown in the front of the book under administrative. The code update adoption process is expected to begin in early 2016. 10/20/14 The electrical code is controlled by the State Department of Labor and Industries/Electrical Section. Adoption of the 2011 NEC was underway in late 2011, but was suspended until at least early 2012 because of an Executive Order from the Governor suspending all non-critical rulemaking through 2012. The 2014 NEC was adopted in September 2013 and is effective as of July 1, 2014. WA skipped the 2011 NEC edition and went directly from the 2008 NEC to the 2014 NEC. http://www.lni.wa.gov/TradesLicensing/Electrical/default.asp http://www.sbcc.wa.gov/sbccindx.html 5/25/16 2008 NEC Expected adoption date is July 1, 2010 without amendment. The state fire marshal dept. anticipate the 2011 NEC will be adopted in possibly 2012. Update…It doesn’t appear the state will adopt the 2011 NEC until 2013. 11/17/14 received word from WV Fire Marshals office that WV will not adopt the 2014 NEC until mid year 2016. The 2014 NEC is on track to be adopted on 8/1/16. On 1/30/14 They voted to move it to “ General File.” General File is the first time the full Legislature has the opportunity to debate and vote on bills. At this stage, senators consider amendments, which may be proposed by committees and by individual senators. Many people consider General File to be the most crucial stage of the legislative process because it is where most compromises are reached. It takes a majority vote of the Legislature (25 votes) to adopt amendments or move a bill from General File to the next stage of consideration. 5/13/15 UPDATE: The State of Wisconsin DPSP Rep mentioned the 2012 IBC will be skipped and the committee will look at the 2015 ICC building code for adoption. The Electrical code review committee is being assembled to begin review of the 2014 NEC. However, DSPS staff (Robyn Zentner) made a comment - suggesting that the electrical committee look at the 2017 NEC rather than the 2014 NEC....1/25/16...The DPSP is moving from the 2014 NEC to the 2017 edition. The states goal is to adopt the 2017 by July of 2017.
