Phase Failure Relays
Class 8430 – Type MP
The Class 8430 phase failure relays offer the reliability and accuracy of solid state circuitry with the isolation of hard output contacts.
Phase Loss: This condition occurs when one line of a 3 phase system is completely lost.
Phase Unbalance: This condition occurs when the voltage in one line of a 3 phase system drops below the voltage in the remaining two lines.
Phase Reversal: This condition occurs when two of three lines in a 3 phase system are switched. This incorrect connection will cause a motor to rotate
in the reverse direction.
Undervoltage: This condition occurs when the voltage in all three lines of a 3 phase system drops simultaneously.

Phase Failure And Undervoltage Relay
The Type MPS is a socket mounted, voltage sensing phase failure relay. The
undervoltage setting is adjustable from 75% to 100% of normal voltage. The
relay is UL Listed with the appropriate socket (see socket selection on Page
21-36). The 240V rated, SPDT output contacts change state upon phase
failure, undervoltage, phase reversal or phase unbalance of 10% or greater.
Response time delay is 3 seconds.

Under and Overspeed Control Relays
SX2DV
Description
21 RELAYS AND TIMERS
The SX2DV (underspeed only) and SX2DV200 (under and overspeed) control relays enable detection of overspeed and underspeed of rotating shafts
or the detection of speed reaching a preset threshold.
A relay, with status indication, is incorporated to enable direct switching. Adjustment of speed detection is simplified by incorporation of a speed range
selector switch and potentiometer.
A start up delay can be implemented to allow the target to reach speed from a standstill.
Sensor selection
The speed information is acquired by means of any 24Vdc, 2 or 3 wire PNP (sourcing), 10 mA max. consumption at no load, Telemecanique proximity
sensor (inductive, magnetic, or capacitive).
Underspeed control
The crossing of a low speed threshold should initiate an action:
a- The stopping of all or part of a movement in the event of slippage or breakage of a conveyer belt, breaking of the coupling to a pump, archimedian
screw, etc. Overloading of a grinder, mixer, etc.
b- Safety interlocking: the enabling of another movement when, for example, opening the door of a centrifugal machine or drier.
Overspeed control
The crossing of a high speed threshold should initiate an action.
a- The stopping of all or part of the movement when, for example, there is a break in the coupling to a conveyer belt.
b- The enabling of another movement when, for example, sequential starting of conveyer belts i.e. the second belt cannot start until the first belt has
reached the desired speed.

Description of operation — SX2DV100
The proximity switch supplies impulses to the SX2 DV with period T (inversely proportional to the speed of the rotating shaft).
T = 60/N.n
T = period in seconds
N = speed of rotating shaft (rpm)
n = number of targets of impulses per revolution
The period T is compared with the preset period Ti (speed threshold potentiometer). In normal operation, the speed of the rotating shaft is greater than
the speed set on the SX2 DV, the output relay is energized and the indicator illuminated. When the speed is less than the threshold, the output relay
de-energizes. Depending on the start up interlock connection, the SX2 DV’s operation can be interlocked either:
– from an external source (NC interlocking contact between “Man” and “OV”).
- or by an internal start up time delay, adjustable from 0.5 to 15 seconds (connect “Auto” to “OV”). This initial time period permits the monitored target
to reach its normal speed.
Resetting is implemented by interrupting the supply. Output relay contact 11-12 can be used for this purpose.

Description of operation — SX2DV200
LED indicator
The proximity switch supplies impulses to the SX2 DV at a frequency with a period T (inversely proportional to the speed of the rotating shaft).
T = 60/N.n
T =period of seconds
N = speed of rotating shaft
n = number of targets or impulses per revolution
The period T is compared with the preset period Ti. In normal operation, the speed of the rotating shaft does not exceed the threshold. In this situation
provision is made for two alternate modes of operation:
- output relay energized, when output INV is connected to +24V
- output relay de-energized, when output INV is left on open circuit
When the threshold to be detected is reached.
- output relay energized, when output INV is connected to +24V
- output relay de-energized, when output INV is left on open circuit.
If the shaft speed decreases to the low speed threshold (adjustable between 40-70% of the high speed level), the output changes its state. The input
“ARM” enables de-energization of the output relay by external means when connected to “OV”.

Alternating Relays
CA2SKE
These alternating relays are used to alternate the use of 2 motor circuits. When the coil is energized the first
time, one contact closes and will open when the coil is de-energized. When the coil is energized again, the other
contact will close and will open when the coil is de-energized. The contacts from these alternators are to be used
in the control circuit of the starters that are controlling pump or compressor motors.

Liquid Level Relays
ST1
21 RELAYS AND TIMERS
Typical application is to signal a “below normal” water level such as in a hot oven or cooler. When the water level
drops below the sensing probe, an alarm or pilot light is activated. By raising the water level to the probe, the
switch automatically de-activates the alarm or pilot light.
The switch is operated by establishing a conductive path between the probe and ground or neutral (1 megohm
or less). The contact to ground electronically operates a triac output. The switch will be “off” when the noninsulated section of the probe is in the water, and will actuate when water is absent.
Features
– Senses liquid levels
– Solid state switching
– Epoxy encapsulated electronics
– Amplifier operates to +160°F
ST181532
– Probe works at high temperatures (up to 450°F)
– UL Listed
Probe characteristics
Probe metal parts are stainless steel. The conductor is teflon covered. Care must be taken to minimize distributed capacity between the probe and ground. Do not run probe lead in wire duct and, where possible, keep the
probe away from surrounding metal objects.
