The industrial connection technology from Phoenix Contact hence contains more than just modular terminal blocks. Circuit breakers For the optimum protection of your systems, Phoenix Contact offers highquality circuit breakers in the following versions: – Thermal circuit breakers TCP They are ideally suited as device protection for AC and DC loads, e.g. to protect motors, transformers and actuators against overloads – Thermomagnetic circuit breakers TMC They combine the advantages of thermal and magnetic trigger mechanisms and are typically used in information and communication technology as well as in process control – Electronic circuit breakers ECP They are designed specifically for selective protection of all load circuits that are fed by a 24 V DC power supply unit. They respond to overload or short-circuit faster than the power supply unit, and they selectively switch off the faulty load circuit before the power supply unit switches off all connected loads to protect itself Program overview Circuit breakers 456 Thermal circuit breakers Thermomagnetic circuit breakers Electronic circuit breakers 458 460 464 Feed-through terminal blocks 470 Feed-through terminal blocks The feed-through terminal blocks from Phoenix Contact are always used when currents of different magnitudes have to be guided through a panel. They are available in three designs: – For snapping into the housing panel – For molding for fully-insulated transformers and filter modules and – As feed-through terminal blocks for high currents Detailed information on the feedthrough terminal blocks can be found in the "COMBICON device connection technology" catalog or at www.phoenixcontact.net/eshop Courtesy of Steven Engineering, Inc.-230 Ryan Way, South San Francisco, CA 94080-6370 Main Office: (650) 588-9200-Outside Local Area: (800) 258-9200-www.stevenengineering.com PHOENIX CONTACT 455 Special terminal blocks Circuit breakers Thermal circuit breakers The TCP thermal circuit breakers protect inductive consumers against overloads in distribution systems in the control cabinet and plant engineering. 456 PHOENIX CONTACT Thermomagnetic circuit breakers TMC thermomagnetic circuit breakers provide protection against overloads and short-circuits in the field of information and communication technology, in process control as well as in devices and systems. Electronic circuit breakers The ECP and ECP-E electronic circuit breakers have been developed to provide distinct protection even in 24 V DC load circuits. They protect all loads that are fed by a switched-mode power supply unit. Potential distribution is carried out through the basic terminal blocks. The TCP pluggable thermal circuit breakers with an integrated ON/OFF switching function are available in compact sizes between 0.25 and 10 A. Potential distribution is carried out through the basic terminal blocks. The UT 6-TMC thermomagnetic circuit breakers are characterized by their compact design and large-surface labeling options. They are integrated into the CLIPLINE complete system using the plug-in bridge shaft. The TMC thermomagnetic circuit breakers have signal contacts and are available with two different trigger characteristics and as 1-, 2- and 3-pos. versions from 0.2 A to 16 A. The TMCP pluggable thermomagnetic circuit breaker has single and group signal contacts. The signal contacts and supply potentials are simply cabled using plug-in bridges. The EC-E electronic circuit breakers offer an additional bridgeable terminal point for the load return conductor in addition to fault current limitation and bridgeable signal contacts for single, group or reset function. The ECP-E electronic circuit breakers differ from the EC-E versions in their pluggable modularity as a result of the TMCP-SOCKET-M base. The ECP circuit breakers are a combination of electronic and thermal circuit breakers; in the event of an error, they interrupt the load circuit electrically. The TMCP, EC-E and ECP pluggable circuit breakers are characterized by their modular design. Thanks to this modular structure, they can be customized according to the application and can always be expanded or replaced. In the event of an overload, power supply units reduce their output voltage and all the connected loads are no longer supplied with sufficient power, e.g. in the case of shortcircuit at the load. This is remedied here by the electronic circuit breaker ECP-E that protects all DC 24 volt load circuits selectively. The ECP-E constantly limits the fault current at 1.8 times the protected nominal current. Capacitive loads can thus be switched on and loads are only switched off in the case of an overload or short-circuit. After detecting overload or short-circuit in the load circuit, the load output of the ECP-E is locked. The current flow is interrupted in the faulty current circuit. The ECP-E and subsequently the current circuit can be activated again through the electronic reset input (13;14) or manually at the device through the slide-type switch. A multi-color LED as well as the integrated status output (12) display the operating and error status. Due to its plugging capacity and narrow width of 12.5 mm, the ECP-E offers time and space saving mounting on the TMCP SOCKET M. With a combination of active electronic current limitation and proven circuit breaker technology including electrical isolation. The ECP 3-6 can be plugged onto the proven TMCP-SOCKET-M base, which also guarantees fast and easy mounting and a reduction in the logistics costs. The area of application for the ECP 3-6 extends to all aspects connected with the power supply unit. Because in the case of an overload, power supply units reduce the output voltage. As a consequence, the connected loads would no longer be sufficiently supplied. This means that if a fault occurs in one consumer of a system, the voltage will break down in all load circuits. The ECP 3-6 solves this problem by always limiting the maximum possible current to 1.8 times the value of the set nominal current. Capacitive loads can thus be switched on, loads, however, are only switched off in the case of an overload or short-circuit. A free combination of both types of circuit breakers on one module also enables individual protection. The TMCP CONNECT LR termination elements are plugged in on both ends of the construction of the modules. The supply can be signaled using connections 11 and 12. The signal can be requested separately for each circuit breaker. Using connections 13 and 14 in the termination elements, a signal loop can be set up over all circuit breakers quickly and without the need for additional wiring. All electrical connections of the main contacts and signal contacts are located in the base. The spring-cage connection and the bridge shaft for potential distribution facilitate wiring. Despite having different fields of application and use, they all have one thing in common: currents of different magnitudes have to be led through the housing panel. A conductor connection that can be released, is touch proof and easy to install is nowadays considered the most satisfactory connection method for wiring these system components. 470 PHOENIX CONTACT The various feed-through terminal blocks satisfy these requirements. Three different designs are available: – The DFK terminal blocks which are snapped into sheet metal cutouts – The VDFK molded feed-through terminal blocks, which are made specially for fully insulated transformers and coils – The HDFK high-current feed-through terminal blocks, whose clamping parts are safely interlocked in the housing All feed-through terminal blocks have a touch-proof insulating housing which can be labeled with various marking materials.
