BS EN3 Kitemarked Extinguishers
Five Year Guarantee
The Kitemark on a portable fire extinguisher
provides a visible endorsement by the British
Standards Institution, the UK national
standards body, of a manufacturer’s
commitment to quality.
We have sufficient confidence in our
products to back them with a five
year guarantee. This means that if any
extinguisher becomes defective due to
faulty materials of workmanship within five
years from the date the extinguisher first
went into service, we will repair or, at our
option, replace it free of charge. This is
provided that the extinguisher is serviced
from new in accordance with BS 5306:
Pt 3 under a Chubb Fire Maintenance
agreement. This guarantee does not cover
defects caused by accident, misuse,
neglect or unsuitable environmental
conditions and excludes service items such
as safety pins, O rings, seals, refills etc.
Manufacturers are required to submit the
extinguishers to rigorous examination and
testing by the BSI to ensure consistent quality
in production.
Samples are taken from production and are
submitted by the manufacturer to BSI for type
testing to confirm full compliance with the
material, design and construction, functional,
dimensional and marking requirements
specified in the standard. Assessment of the
manufacturers quality management systems is
carried out by BSI Q.A.
CE Mark
As of May 2002 all fire extinguishers
which operate under pressure have to be
manufactured to the requirements of the
European Pressure Equipment Directive
(PED). In response to this Directive, Chubb
Fire led the way in being the first UK
manufacturer of fire extinguishers to achieve
the required standard. As a result, the CE
mark now appears on all our extinguishers,
recognising and reinforcing the fact that they
are safe for their intended use.
Chubb Fire’s quality management systems for
extinguisher manufacture and servicing are
accredited to BS EN ISO 9001 and fire alarms
servicing to BS EN ISO 9001
Chubb are also members
of the following
associations:
Along with the kitemark, all buyers of
extinguishers should look out for this mark.
Which Portable Fire Extinguisher to use

Fire Risk Assessment
The latest Fire Regulations make you, the employer, responsible
for fire safety within your business. Even if your workplace is
covered by a fire certificate, a fire risk assessment has to be
carried out, and records kept if you employ five or more people.
Fire Risk Assessment Consultancy
Chubb’s consultancy provides the total fire
risk assessment solution. With a national
network of consultants, we are able to
offer a comprehensive and consistent risk
management service.
Chubb view risk assessments as a
partnership. Where appropriate, we will look
to work with employers and employees alike
to minimise the risks and ensure staff know
what to do in the event of a fire.

Our consultants are all ex-senior ranking
Fire Officers and Graduate members of the
Institution of Fire Engineers, many with over 25
years fire safety experience. This experience
is invaluable when making recommendations
that concur with those of the enforcing Fire
Brigade and current legislation.
Once a building’s fire risk assessment is
complete, the customer will be provided
with an easy to understand, personally
tailored report. This will form the basis of an
employer’s on-going fire safety procedures
and demonstrate compliance with the Fire
Precautions (Workplace) Regulations 1997
(as amended 1999).
The Fire Risk Assessment is always fully
documented and carries with it ample
professional indemnity for your total peace
of mind.
Premium Fire Risk Assessment
This service takes fire risk assessments to the next level. Using the standard report as its
basis, this assessment explores and explains risks in greater detail and incorporates an
at-a-glance risk summary page to enable our customers to prioritise their actions effectively.
All this can be supported and enhanced with floor-by-floor CAD drawings and digital
photography of the significant risks.
Review of Previous Fire Risk Assessment
A fire risk assessment is a dynamic document which should reflect the workplace as it stands
today. Chubb offer a fire safety audit which will review an existing Chubb fire risk assessment
and comment on changes which have taken place since the last assessment, and identify any
new contraventions. Chubb strongly advise this audit takes place at least annually.
Chubb Global NEW
Global is a web based Fire Risk Assessment
management system that allows authorised
personnel to access the information stored
on a secure web server.
Organisations are then provided with complete
visibility of their individual fire risk assessment
documents and schedules and both local
and national management are able to track
and monitor progress and improvements
in fire safety. Global can provide extensive
management analysis in a concise format.
• Ideal for multi-site organisation
• Reduces the paper burden and increases
the efficiency
• Efficient contravention management and
audit trails of action taken
• Complete visibility and remote access to
information on all your sites
• Standardised reporting across all sites

Maintaining a Fire Log Book is a recommendation of British Standard, and is also
considered good practice. If you ever had a
fire at your site, you could demonstrate to
your Insurance Company, the Fire Brigade
and even a Court of Law that you effectively
managed your fire safety responsibilities.
Chubb Fire’s Log Book is designed for
easy record keeping and contains advice
and handy reference guides to user’s
responsibilities.
Maintaining a log book means that your fire
alarm / fire extinguisher engineers have full
access to the history of equipment on site and
if your premises are certified under the Fire
Precautions Act 1971, failure to keep a suitable
log book may be a breach of the requirements
of the certificate, which is a criminal offence.

Detect Fire
Automatic Fire Detection and Alarms
Whilst the main focus of your fire protection
strategy should be to prevent fire, should a
fire accidentally break out, early automatic fire
detection is essential to help you contain the fire.
An automatic fire detection and alarm system provides the earliest possible warning of a
developing emergency situation. It facilitates safe and swift evacuation of people, can summon
the emergency services and also provides accurate information concerning the location of the fire
so that it can be dealt with in an appropriate manner. Chubb are experts in installing, servicing and
maintaining automatic fire detection. We do a thorough assessment of site-specific circumstances
to ensure a tailored automatic fire detection system to best fit your needs.
Our products and services include:
• Linear Heat Detection
• Automatic Fire detection and alarms
• Voice Alarms and Public Address systems
• Emergency Lighting (see Escape Fire)
• Radio Fire Alarms
• Gas Detection
• 24/7 Fire Alarm monitoring
• Aspirating Smoke Detection
• Service and Maintenance of all fire systems

83/90136 FireCARE Annual Monitoring
Fire alarm monitoring by Chubb’s dedicated
network of alarm receiving centres ensures
rapid response to any alarm activation.
Chubb operates a network of Alarm
Receiving Centres in the UK and are the
number one providers in dedicated remote
fire remote monitoring.
Operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a
year, means that in the event of the alarm
sounding, a signal is sent automatically to
Chubb’s alarm receiving centre who will call
the appropriate emergency response.
Weekly Fire Alarm Testing (within M25)
Under the Fire Precautions Act 1971,
buildings with fire alarms should conduct
a weekly audibility alarm test. As per this
requirement, Chubb’s inspecting officer
will test a different call point each week in
rotation and ensure that all the building’s
occupants can hear it when activated. The
test will be logged and any problem areas
will be immediately highlighted.

Frost Free Horn
Product No.
Description
47/90556
Frost Free Horn
Despite the CO2 extinguisher being the
UK’s most commonly used extinguisher,
previously they have been supplied with
a warning against holding the horn when
in use. This is because the CO2 is held as
a liquid under pressure within the cylinder,
and when it is discharged it expands rapidly,
cooling down the material it contacts. As
such, during the discharge of a 2kg CO2
extinguisher, the temperature of a traditional
horn drops by 40oC, giving the user a risk of
a frost burn if the horn is accidently touched.
To eliminate this problem, Chubb have
developed a new reinforced swivel horn
that combats the longstanding issue of frost
building on the horn.
The new horn comes as standard on all
new 2kg CO2 extinguishers. Chubb can
also upgrade your extinguishers during your
scheduled service visit for the same price as
a standard CO2 horn.

Fry Fighter
Because of cooking oil’s high auto-ignition
temperatures of anything up to 360oC,
these fires are notoriously difficult to
extinguish. Conventional extinguishers are
simply not effective at dealing with this very
real risk and it can be dangerous to use
them on this type of fire.
To help tackle this, Chubb developed the Fry
Fighter. This is a wet chemical extinguisher
that has been specifically developed to deal
with cooking oils and fat fires.

Cooker Hood Extinguishing Systems
Cooking oil fires, because of their high
auto-ignition temperatures are difficult and
dangerous to extinguish. A cooker hood
suppression system protects commercial
catering equipment and provides automatic
detection then activation. The cooker hood
suppression system uses a wet chemical
extinguishant that has been specificially
developed to deal with cooking oils and
fat fires. Alternatively, it can be activated
manually through a remote manual pull
station. The gas or electrical supply to all
protected appliances will be immediately
shut off upon activation of the system.

Fire Stands are most effectively used
where an extinguisher cannot easily be wall
mounted. For example on thin partioned
walls or in a workshop environment where
wall mounting is simply not appropriate.
Also, stands are often deployed where
the overall appearance of a room is
important or where improved visibility of
an extinguisher is critical. Stands not only
protect the extinguisher from passer-by
damage, they can also aid the user in
quickly locating an extingusiher in the case
of an emergency.

CO2 Secure Double Fire Stand
Many CO2’s have a tendency
to fall over easily when they
are stood on the floor or on a
fire stand, particularly when
passers-by brush past them
in a busy corridor. Containing
pressure almost four times
more than any other standard
extinguisher, the dangers to staff and visitors
in a workplace are all too apparent. Moreover,
any discharge could also leave a building
without suitable cover.
By introducing an industry unique ‘hot-slot’,
the CO2 Secure Double Fire Stand eliminates
this potential hazard. The hot-slot firmly holds
the CO2 upright when not in use without
restraining the user from quickly retrieving it as
and when it is required.

Escape fire
Signs
Having the right sign in the right place
will help ensure the safe evacuation of
staff in the event of a fire and will also
help to comply with the regulations
Chubb Fire’s range of fire and safety signs
incorporate the latest technology to provide
cost effective solutions.
To see the full range of our fire and
safety signs, request a copy of our Signs
Catalogue by calling 0800 32 1666.
Photoluminescent escape route signs retain
their luminous power for several hours
to allow occupants to evacuate buildings
quickly and safely in the dark and can be
recharged any number of times.
Low location lighting uses a similar principle.
Directional indicators on floors and walls
glow in the dark to point out a clear,
unambiguous and continuous escape route.
A major safety benefit is achieved by having
illuminated guidance below the level where
the smoke collects.

Chubb can install, service and maintain

Training
Training Courses
Chubb offers a range of training options for employers to
ensure that employees understand fire prevention and are
familiar with fire regulations.
Training Guidance
Benefits of Chubb Fire Training
According to the Home Office published 'Fire
Safety: An Employer's Guide', training should
be "repeated as necessary - usually once or
twice a year". This should "preferably include
practical exercises."
Chubb Fire’s objective is to provide
delegates with a sound knowledge of
effective fire safety practices. Our training
courses will:
• Ensure staff can evacuate safely in an
emergency, and assist the escape of
customers, visitors, patients or pupils
Consistent with this advice, Chubb
recommends that key, nominated members of
staff are trained to fire marshal level and in the
use of fire fighting equipment. Ideally when
deciding on who to nominate, select members
of staff who are assertive, permanently based
on site and likely to stay with the organisation
for a sufficient length of time.
• Raise awareness of fire prevention
• Demonstrate your responsibility towards
the well-being of employees
• Help you comply with fire regulations
Fire Safety Training Courses
The objective of each course is to give
delegates all round knowledge of what to do
in the event of a fire.
Specialist training will be given to highlight
particular fire risks and methods of fire
prevention. These include instruction on the
colour coding of fire extinguishers and which
type is safe and appropriate to use.
Every course is reinforced with videos and
questionnaires to help delegates retain the
information. As part of our comprehensive
programme there are also practical
demonstrations during which delegates are
able to participate in extinguishing a number
of controlled fires, using a range of different
extinguishers.
