3rd HARMONIC FILTERS
MTE 3rd Harmonic Filters are designed to be used on single phase branch
circuits with a high number of triplen harmonic producing loads attached. The
filter typically reduces triplen harmonics (3rd, 9th, 15th) caused by switch mode
power supplies, electronic ballasts, light dimmer controls, and single phase motor
drives. This filter reduces triplen harmonic currents in the neutral of the upstream
three phase distribution system.

• Typical 80 – 90% reduction in each individual harmonic from the 3rd
through the 9th.

Catalog Number Selection Procedure:
1. Identify the following
a. Identify the maximum current draw of the device (5, 10, or 15
Amps).
b. The enclosure type required. (P=Open unit in all cases.)
c. Product type is HF in all cases.
d. Line voltage (Blank=120V, 2=240V)
e. Line frequency (Blank = 60 Hz, X = 50 Hz)
2. Create the part number
a. Start with 5, 10, or 15 identified in item (1.a.)
b. Append a “P”, the results of item (1.b)
c. Append a “HF”, the results of (1.c)
d. Append the results of (1.d)
e. Append the results of (1.e)
3. Look up the created catalog number in the following tables to determine
list price. (Note: The ‘X’ is a place holder and will be substituted with a ‘D’
or an ‘F’ in the tables depending on the series.)
4. Check with the factory if you can not find the part in the table.

3rd Harmonic Filter Specification
1.0 General
This 3rd Harmonic filter is intended to reduce triplen harmonics generated by
voltage switching loads.
1.1
The 3rd Harmonic filter incorporates UL recognized inductor, capacitors, wires,
and terminal block but is not UL component recognized as an assembly.
1.2
These filters reduce triplen (3rd and 9th ) current harmonics produced by personal
computers, electronic ballasts, lighting dimmer controls, uninterruptible power
supplies, or 1-Phase Motor Drives/Inverters.,
1.3
The 3rd Harmonic Filters are used to reduce neutral currents, reduce transformer
loading, protect electrical systems, reduce fire hazards, and improve power
factor.
2.0 Electrical Ratings:

Filters can be selected for 120V – 60 Hz, 240V – 60Hz, and 240V – 50 Hz single
phase supply sources with 5, 10, or 15 Amp ratings..
