President’s Report -
Hallo to all Members and friends. From the President’s
desk I have to advise that it is membership renewal time and so ask all members who
have not renewed to see Raelz at your next Club attendance and become financial.
With the increase in postage now, Committee are in the process of discussing various
ways for the “Country Call’ distribution in order to keep costs down. Members may be
given some preference options to consider.
Our Catering Coordinator and her band of helpers are doing a great job. Bernie is
introducing new concepts for her food presentations which have brought accolades
about the quality of the food. BUT, Bernie is asking for a couple more volunteers
to help with the preparation of sandwiches etc on the morning of our show. See me or
Bernie if you would like to help. There is free entry to Club shows for helping.
In February, our 27th birthday, we had the ‘Borderers’ band and I, and many others, thought they were
fantastic. This may be due to my preference for Irish country music, but I do like all country. Some members
were not impressed but a day of Celtic music was an enjoyable change. I do concede that they are not a
dance band.
Next month we have ‘Heartland’ with Craig Giles. Juliet Oliver will be the guest artist.
The Len Wakefield Memorial Fund will now be addressed as the ‘Len and Lorraine Wakefield Memorial
Fund’ following the passing of Lorraine. As there was no award presented in 2015 due to the absence of
selection representatives at Barmera, the Committee have nominated and awarded Juliet Oliver (still a
junior) the 2015 award. Juliet is nominating for a senior scholarship at Tamworth next year and if accepted
will go into the Country Music College. She will be able to use her award money to help pay her fees.

April Show Band :- Allan Webster and Country Gentlemen with
guest artist Roger Howard
Allan Webster has not been at the
club for a number of years. He
appeared in 2006 and in 2010
though. His full biography is on
his website (https://allanwebster.
wordpress.com/). Part of it is ‘Allan
Webster was born in Wallasey,
England, and began his musical
education on violin and graduated
Allen and the band at the SCMC in Sept 2015
to guitar, playing in his first band at
the age of 14. He played the music
of the era with a typical Mersey sound, playing at the same venues, namely the Cavern, in Liverpool, as
the Beatles, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and the Searchers. Allan emigrated to Australia in 1964, with his
parents and 9 siblings.’
In 1999 he won the South Australian Champion of Champions of Country Music. There are many other
career highlights listed on line.
The following albums have been released to date. Jokers Wild in 2001 and Guitar Man in 2003. The song
‘Grand Pa’s Words’ was voted A.P.R.A. 2003 Song of the Year (traditional section) the latest cd released is
‘Part Time Dreamer’. They should be available at our April show day.
The members of his ‘Country Gentlemen’ band are. Henry Czerwonka, Andrew Holliday
(bass guitar) and on drums Nevin Skurray.
Allan lives in Millicent with his lovely wife Maureen (when not travelling to Tasmania or
New Zealand!).
Roger Howard has done many walk-up performances for many years. Photos have
been taken of him at the Gawler Country Music Club, at Barmera and at the Plympton &
Glenelg RSL (Billy Dee’s show). Photo on the left.
VALE Merv Jackson
It is with much regret to advise Members of the passing of Merv. Jackson on Sunday 7th February ‘16.
Merv was the esteemed Vice President of our Committee. He was Treasurer from 2008 to 2014 and Vice
President August 2006 August 2008 and again from October 2015. The club Merit Award was presented
to Merv in 2010 and Merv was made a Life member at the August 2012 AGM. Merv became a general
committee member late 2003 was until August 2006 when he took over the Vice President
position. He joined the Club in 2002.
Our condolences are extended to his wife Lorna, adult children Sharon, Gary, Robyn and
their families.
His funeral was held in the Seacliff Uniting Church on Friday 12th February with a large
gathering in attendance.
Dean Beviss President.
More photos of most of our club meetings are on our website www.acmc.org.au. Past Country
Calls (mostly in colour) from 2006 are also there. There are also many photos by Robert Chapman
on line (link on our website). Check our facebook page too!
Please save the Club having to print, fold and post your Country Call by downloading your
COLOUR copy from our website. It is usually on the website a week before most members
receive their posted version! Please send an email to publicity@acmc.org.au and ask to be
taken off the mailing list. You will be sent an email advising when the next issue is available to
download.

Vale Ron Wade 1935-2015
Ron Wade who fronted the Country music band ‘Dakota’ several years ago passed away on
the 17th December 2015 at Mannum. He is survived by his wife Lorraine.
In 1995 Ron and Lorraine were invited to meet Merle Haggard at the Keswick Railway station
during a stopover en route to his next destination.
Merle was Ron’s idol and as such Ron sang many of Merle Haggard songs. He made a CD of Haggard
songs. They were able to have a long audience as there was a delay with the train. This meeting with Merle
was a highlight in Ron’s life.
Arrangements have been made to have part of Ron’s ashes to be taken to Nashville and spread there.
Dean Beviss President
He was inducted into Rock’s Country Music Hall of Fame at Barmera in 1996. There is more information
here http://country.ianfisk.org/artists/wade_ron/index.htm
Newsletter Distribution.
With the recent large increase in postal rates, it is becoming much more necessary to reconsider how our
members receive their Country Call.
Country Call has been available to be downloaded from our website for many years. This has been publicized
many times in the past. Unfortunately, not a large number of members have chosen this method of delivery.
Please consider this option. Country Call from the website is in colour, delivered earlier than a posted version
and this option saves the Club the cost of printing and postage. It also saves the effort of folding and posting!
We tried making Country Call available at meetings, but not many favoured that method, but are offering that
option again!
The Club is requesting members choose one of the below delivery options.
1. Download from website
2. Pick up at the next Club Meeting
3. Be posted.
If those opting for picking up at Club Meetings don’t attend, Country Call would be posted shortly after the
meeting.
Please indicate to the Membership Officer or Publicity Officer which option you prefer. Country Call will
continue to be posted to those not contacting us. Two members have already volunteered to pick up their
newsletters at Club meetings!
Nathaniel O’Brien Class of Cabaret Scholarship
Providing development opportunities for young singers from regional South Australia
Adelaide Festival Centre’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival is proud to announce the Nathaniel O’Brien Class of
Cabaret Scholarship.
The Nathaniel O’Brien Class of Cabaret Scholarship will give two students the opportunity to perform at the
2016 Adelaide Cabaret Festival Roadshow in their home region as well as receiving express entry into the
2017 Adelaide Cabaret Festival Class of Cabaret program. Each scholarship, which is open to students in
year 10 and 11, is valued at $5,000, which includes travel and accommodation assistance as well as private
vocal tuition from one of Adelaide’s leading vocal teachers.
Every year the Adelaide Cabaret Festival Roadshow brings Adelaide Cabaret Festival favourites to regional
South Australia, with the Roadshow visiting Mount Gambier and Renmark in 2016. One talented applicant
each will be selected from the Limestone Coast and Murraylands/Riverland regions. In future years the
scholarship will follow the annual Adelaide Cabaret Festival Roadshow to different South Australian regional
centres, giving this amazing opportunity to students.
