ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP. ADMINISTRATIVE APPOINTMENTS
Administrative head experience. Staff management and staff development
1993—2000: Professor, Head of the Department at Moscow State University, and Advanced Education and
Science Center (AESC)—The Kolmogorov School.
Administrative work as Professor and Head of the Department of computer science consisted in fulfilling the
duties of member of the AESC Board (regular weekly board meetings) and member of the AESC Big Scientific
Council (regular monthly council meetings) where general educational university policy and measures were
elaborated and evaluated together with other members, deans of ten MSU faculties. An important part of
administrative work as head of department was preparation and evaluation of courses, curricula, and course
programs, recruiting personal, and planning the teaching schemes.
Project leadership and supervision
The project leadership and supervision were always among my urgent duties. Since 1977 I have been scientific
leader, head, co-head, superviser, or co-superviser of 23 granted research projects listed above. The project teams
were from two to ten researchers, the project duration was from one to eight years, and the project topics were
both of theoretical (like those performed in Oberwolfach Mathematical Institute, Germany http://www.mfo.de or
jointly with University of Helsinki) and applied character. Several project teams were international, the list of
collaborators is presented below. In 2001—2008 I co-supervised and co-head several projects aimed at
applications in paper and printing technology within the frames of Research Program T2F Tryckteknisk
forskning www.t2f.nu, Surface Treatment Program, Paper Surface Center, and Forenew
http://www.surftreat.kau.se/ at the Karlstad university. The reports are enclosed. Some recent reports concerning
the accomplished projects in contact mechanics and printing technology can be found on the web-pages
www.t2f.nu/t2frapp_f_216.pdf www.t2f.nu/t2frapp_f_209.pdf . The projects related to modeling of packaging
processed by microwaves is referred to on www.paperprovince.com/dokument/TPPNews04nr1.pdf
The research project in optical waveguide design (in cooperation with the Department of Electromagnetic
Theory, Lund University of Technology http://www.eit.lth.se/) is reported on the web-page

Management and other duties within the university’s organisation
Administrative work at the Department of Mathematics of the Faculty of Technology and Science of the Karlstad
University envelopes 5-10 % of working time and consists mainly in arranging and participating in regular
department meetings and meetings of the faculty groups responsible for preparation and regular control of civil
engineering educational programs. Membership in board of advisors and evaluation committees of research
projects is another part of administrative activities at the Karlstad University since 2001. Other administrative
work envelops administration of student activities related to teaching, running exams, and recruiting based on
authorized use of Ladok, QR, Arakne, and other program packages applied at universities in Sweden.

COOPERATION WITH INDUSTRY
Cooperation with industry is an important part of applied research and takes place in the form of joint projects: in
2004--2006, within the framework of the projects Modeling of the paper surface compressibility and the clichésurface printing contacts granted by Research Program T2F Tryckteknisk forskning, and Experimental and
theoretical investigations of the paper compressibility granted by STFI/T2F. Since 2004, the studies of the paper
