Course title: Principal subject French horn Osiris course code: KC-M-KI-HRN Course content: Students of this course receive individual lessons of 75 minutes. Teachers of the principal subject also give regular group lessons during which students play for each other. Recitals are also arranged in the brass music class. There are regular master classes given by guest lecturers. Ab Koster gives a continuous master class every year. During the individual lessons the students practice the repertoire under the teacher’s guidance. The student and teacher together devise a programme tailored to the requisite development of repertoire in the context of the annual schedule of auditions, exams, projects and extracurricular activities. The entire programme corresponds with the student’s study plan. There is scope for specialisation. The focus is on the student’s personal development as a professional musician and as an inspired and inspiring interpreter. The students are challenged to reflect on and pursue personal growth and to recognise quality. Objectives: At the end of this course, the student is able to: Perform on a level that can be qualified as ‘excellent at an international level’. Relate his/her position independently towards the music and the music profession at an advanced level through a deepened development in terms of craftsmanship and artistic growth. Create his/her own work based on an original artistic vision and research, and present this work in varied contexts, showing an understanding of the musician’s position between the score and the (specialist and/or non-specialist) audience, often in an international multicultural environment. Develop, through an inquisitive attitude, advanced knowledge of repertoire and translate this knowledge musically into a convincing and original interpretation. Communicate and cooperate at an advanced level with colleagues and other professionals in the international music profession. Show advanced understanding of the international music profession, in which he/she is able to function at an advanced level through the application of skills, knowledge, artistic vision and research skills, and by developing and maintaining a professional network.
