www.delorenzoglobal.com www.technical-education.it www.delorenzoenergy.com Introduction The problem of training has reached, in the last few years, such an important level to have become a priority with respect to the other problems that any Country has to face. The peculiarity of this problem is due to a double aspect: The social objective of the school is mainly that of being first of all didactic and not merely selective. Both technical and vocational training must be complete and polyvalent and must not limit themselves to a mainly theoretical education. The qualitative aspect of training deals with the need that, at the end of the classes, the student be immediately ready to benefit from the years that with a lot of efforts he has devoted to the study, without necessarily needing further practical training courses to complete its qualification. Since 1951, the year of its establishment, De Lorenzo started to operate in the field of electronics, dealing with the manufacturing and sale of measurement instruments. During this activity, we found a serious lack of equipment in the didactic sector and decided that our structure, our engineers and our facilities could have been used to obviate such a deficiency. In 1964, De Lorenzo designed the first kit for the study of electronics, a novelty factor in the education market. Soon, more products were added to this first kit, all specially designed for teaching electronics. In 1966, De Lorenzo designed the first laboratory for experiments on electrical engineering and in 1968 De Lorenzo, that was already exporting to many countries, was selected for a large supply of equipment to the Mexican Regional Technology Institutes. De Lorenzo S.p.A. has always tried to respond to the above two needs through a training philosophy that consists in: Its history continues, success after success, up to the present days, with a large number of products, areas of technical expertise and presence in foreign Countries. • studying the official curricula and the objectives to be reached; An Italian reality in the service of technical and vocational training. • evaluating, together with the technical staff of the school, the needs of the teachers; • avoiding the mere demonstration of the physical phenomena, while insisting on the experiment and, above all, on the measurement; • inciting students to use the didactic equipment, while protecting both their safety and the safety of the equipment; • studying the installation lay-outs and assisting the teachers during the on-site start-up phase; • providing manuals and other study material relevant to the equipment and the curricula. The didactic nature of our equipment, although directly derived from the industry, allows students noticing and understanding more easily and quickly the operation of the equipment and the laws that control it, indispensable condition for the activities of design, utilization and maintenance. De Lorenzo S.p.A. is always ready to study and set up special projects for custom tailored laboratories for technical and vocational schools, for budgeting purposes or for requests of funding to public and private Institutions, such as World Bank, EuropAid, etc. 2 Made in Italy De Lorenzo S.p.A. manufactures in its factory of Rozzano, in the outskirts of Milan, all the didactic equipment that it supplies and the reliability and long duration of its equipment are obtained through the use of first grade material and components and the study of safety systems and protections to avoid overloads and short circuits. Our laboratory starts from the study of PLCs to allow students the analysis and the acquisition of the techniques related to programming a PLC and to its use in control technology. The laboratory then includes a set of real situations simulation panels to facilitate, in a user-friendly and stimulating way, the study and the programming of the PLC: programmable traffic lights, automated parking garage, three-floor elevator, etc. Our proposal continues with the study of the control of alternate and direct current motors and with the application of the PLC programming techniques to processes where to control level, pressure, temperature and flow of a typical industrial process plant. The laboratory is, then, completed with a pneumatic and electro-pneumatic trainer and with a modular system representative of the automation techniques for industrial production (CIM, Computer Integrated Manufacturing), a very topical subject, the latter, basis for modern industry. New systems for air conditioning, ABS braking, antitheft devices and others have been regularly added to the traditional electrical systems for lighting, power and ignition/injection. To fulfill the training needs of the automotive industry, DE LORENZO has realized a multidisciplinary laboratory that allows the theoretical study and the practical analysis of the problems related to the field of electrical and electronic technology applied to automobiles. The laboratory consists of a set of simulation panels for the study of the electrical and electronic systems and subsystems that are used in modern motor vehicles and of a set of demonstration trainers with real components for a more direct and practical approach to the automotive subject. The simulators are provided with a CAI (Computer Assisted Instruction) software and can be connected in a local network with a control software for the teacher. This laboratory deals with the design and operating principles of the most common biomedical instrumentation in the field of diagnosis, therapy and rehabilitation. The objective is that of studying in detail different circuits that are commonly used in the clinic practice, by means of propaedeutic and application modules. The system that we propose is based on the EIB (European Installation Bus) solution, that needs just a single bipolar conductor through which all the end users connected to the “bus line” communicate among them. The products that are marked with the “EIB” symbol are guaranteed as compatible and interoperating among them, even if they come from different manufacturers. The system is then controlled and managed by a software package, named ETS (EIB Tool Software), through which the single components, all connected in parallel to the single bipolar line, gain their “individuality” through an identification address and are programmed for the type of function and for the system where they are installed. The study subjects include the following categories: lighting systems, shutter control systems, safety systems and heating/air conditioning systems. For all the above categories the manuals include practical exercises by using standard EIB components. Each experiment describes step by step the design, the configuration and the commissioning of the system. In particular, the laboratory deals with subjects related to the solar energy, in both the photovoltaic and thermal form, the wind energy, the hydrogen fuel cell technology, the production of biodiesel from vegetable oils, etc. DL SOLAR-A The laboratory also deals with an equally important subject, that of the energy efficiency, to reduce the need for energy in both the civil and industrial fields. The trainers that we propose for the Renewable Energies laboratory are the following: Photovoltaic solar energy In this sector, the systems that we propose, similar for what concerns their didactic objectives, are different in their study methodology and in the level of in-depth analysis of the technical aspects. The basic level is represented by the model DL SOLAR-C, that allows a theoretical-practical study of the photovoltaic phenomenon with small dimension solar cells and a graphic lay-out of possible applications. On the other hand, the models DL SOLAR-A and DL SOLAR-B represent a real system for the production of electric energy with applications that are typical of our everyday life. The model DL SOLAR-D deals with the subject of feeding the mains network with the energy that we produce, but that we do not fully utilize in the place of production. The trainers are also available with a data acquisition and processing system in LabVIEW environment. DL SUN-WIND Thermal solar energy The didactic system that we propose in this section, DL THERMO-A, is composed of a solar panel, also available as a simulator, a module containing the components for circulating, storing and controlling the liquid in the primary and secondary circuits and a fan heater as a real application of the production of hot water by thermal effect. 16 Wind energy In this sector, the systems that we propose are basically two: systems with a real turbine generator for the production of electric energy (DL WIND-A) and a wind tunnel (DL WIND-B) for the study of the effects of the wind on the blades of a turbine generator. In the first case, the real turbine generator that is mounted on the trainer DL WIND-A can be substituted, in the trainer DL WIND-A1, by a DC motor that allows its use also indoor or without wind. The trainers are also available with a data acquisition and processing system in LabVIEW environment. Hydrogen fuel cells The fuel cells are electro-chemical devices that allow obtaining electricity from certain substances, such as hydrogen and oxygen, without any thermal combustion process. The systems that we propose are basically different for what concerns the didactic methodology: the DL HYDROGEN-A, where we study the phenomenon of the production of electric energy starting from the electrolytic phenomenon of the production of hydrogen from distilled water, and the DL HYDROGEN-B, where the hydrogen is already stored in an aluminum container and the study focuses on the production of energy and on examples of real applications. DL HYDROGEN-B Biodiesel The biodiesel is a biofuel, that is, a fuel that is obtained from renewable sources, such as vegetable oils and animal fats. The pilot plant that we propose is based on the chemical process of transesterification and uses the methanol as catalyst for the process. The typical production is 30 liters/batch and includes also a system for recovering the alcohol that is obtained as a byproduct of the process. DL EFFICIENCY-A Energy efficiency In this section, the systems that we propose, such as the DL EFFICIENCY-A, allow studying the energy efficiency in the control of electric motors, that, in particular in the industrial field, represent about 50% of the electric consumption of the whole sector. The trainers compare the different control techniques and quantitatively demonstrate the energy savings that we can obtain if we use more suitable operating methodologies. “per maggiori informazioni e dettagli sui prodotti vedere il catalogo xy” www.delorenzoglobal.com www.technical-education.it www.delorenzoenergy.com 17 Electrical Power Engineering The Electrical Power Engineering laboratory deals in a complete and systematic way the subject of the electric energy cycle, from its generation to its transmission and distribution over high voltage lines, with relevant protection relays, and its utilization by the end users. Therefore, the laboratory is divided in four main sections: • Energy generation, where we study a bipolar alternator driven by a dc motor and different synchronization circuits. • Energy transmission and distribution, where we analyze a three-winding transformer and a line model to study its characteristics at different load conditions. • Protection techniques, where we study the measurement transformers and the relays that are most frequently used for the protection of the lines. • Energy utilization, where we discuss the problems relevant to the compensation of the reactive energy and the methods with the devices needed for the measurement of the electric energy in alternate current and in three-phase networks.
