If any incident occurs during your visit to the campus, please utilize the chain of command outlined in your orientation information to report, prior to leaving the campus. Safety While visiting the campus you may notice patients wearing colored arm bracelets. This is a patient safety initiative used by all hospitals in the state of Texas. Safety Allergy-Red This initiative creates a standardized process to DNR-Purple identify and communicate Fall Risk-Yellow patient specific risk. Wristbands include 6 identifying colors Latex Allergy-Green Restricted Extremity-Pink Pediatric-Orange Safety Should there be a need, security officers as well as Houston Police Department officers are on the property 24 hours day. Security officers can be reached by Dialing extension 5350. Emergency Codes Emergency Codes For all emergency codes within the hospital, use any internal phone and dial “3333”. Emergency Codes Code Red - Fire Rescue anyone in danger Code Blue - Respiratory or Cardiac Arrest Activate the Code Blue Button/Pull Activate the fire alarm Dial “3333” with: Contain the fire •Unit name Evacuate/Extinguish •Patient’s location •Caller’s name Emergency Codes Code Orange – Chemical or Hazardous Material Spill Code Pink – Infant or Pediatric Abduction Search & Secure your area Telephone proper response areas Obtain pertinent information Record all pertinent information Keep everyone in place Emergency Codes Code Green – Casper Missing Patient Code Green – Armstrong Unruly or Combative patient or visitor Emergency Codes Code Grey – Internal an event occurring suddenly and surprisingly, which significantly damages or impairs the hospital’s ability to function normally. This may include power outages, loss of water, internal explosion or flooding and bomb threat. Code Grey – External are any occurrence outside the hospital causing a sudden large influx of casualties. This may include severe weather, fires, explosion, flood, a nuclear-biological-chemical (NBC) event, and large transportation accidents. Please remember that this policy applies to all of those on campus in professional capacity. Infection Control Hospitals can be very germy places. Therefore it is important to practice good hand hygiene. Infection Control Hand washing Should Be Consistently Practiced Hand washing is the single most important thing you can do to prevent the spread of disease! Infection Control Wash your hands: When hands are obviously soiled After each patient contact Before and after eating After bathroom use After blowing nose or coughing Before leaving the hospital Infection Control Hand-washing Technique Wet hands and apply hospital approved soap. Lather well for 15 seconds. Rinse hands under running water. NOTE: DO NOT turn faucet (s) off at this time. Dry hands thoroughly on paper towel and discard Turn faucet off using clean dry towel so hands will not be contaminated. Alcohol based hand sanitizers may be used in conjunction with hand-washing. If hands are visibly soiled, hand-washing with soap and water is indicated. Infection Control – post test What is the number one hygiene practice to reduce the spread of infection? HIPAA HIPAA HIPAA stands for: Health Insurance Portability & Accountability Act HIPAA HIPAA is a Privacy Rule, that protects individual medical records and other protected health information. Protected health information includes any information about the patient that might identify a patient. This rule applies to all of those in the hospital in a professional capacity. HIPPA Workforce members and business associates will be given access to PHI (protected health information), and/or PHI will be disclosed to them only when there is a legitimate clinical and/or business need for the information.
