Infection Control
Hospitals can be very germy
places. Therefore it is important
to practice good hand hygiene.
Infection Control
Hand washing Should Be Consistently
Practiced
 Hand washing is the single most important
thing you can do to prevent the spread of
disease!
Infection Control
Wash your hands:
When hands are obviously soiled
After each patient contact
Before and after eating
After bathroom use
After blowing nose or coughing
Before leaving the hospital
Infection Control
Hand-washing Technique
 Wet hands and apply hospital approved soap.
 Lather well for 15 seconds.
 Rinse hands under running water.
NOTE: DO NOT turn faucet (s) off at this time.
 Dry hands thoroughly on paper towel and discard
 Turn faucet off using clean dry towel so hands will
not be contaminated.
 Alcohol based hand sanitizers may be used in
conjunction with hand-washing. If hands are visibly
soiled, hand-washing with soap and water is
indicated.
Infection Control – post
test
