Loudoun County Public Schools Department of Instruction Advancing Teaching, Improving Learning Creating programs and practices to eliminate disparity in achievement, acceptance, and appreciation within and among all racial, cultural, gender and socio-economic groups. Message from the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Welcome to the Department of Instruction (DOI) in Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS). Our seven divisions and twenty-nine offices provide services for one purpose – to support student learning. In order to achieve our purpose, our supervisors and specialists work directly with teachers in the areas of curriculum and instruction and our directors supervise principals to ensure excellent instructional leadership and effective management of school operations. DOI staff continually use data to monitor division and school level performance. Through ongoing professional development based on educational research and the power of the “LCPS Data Warehouse,” school administrators and teachers have become quite sophisticated in using multiple sources of information to guide instructional practices. All of the activities in our department depend upon open, two-way communication with the local schools in order for our services to remain relevant to student learning. Every plan or action is assessed according the fundamental question, “How will this enhance student learning?” We welcome comments and questions to any of the DOI staff. The complete listing of contacts can be found on the LCPS website at www.lcps.org. Sharon D.
