GENERAL
The Battery Distribution Fuse Bay (BDFB) or Battery Distribution Circuit Breaker Bay (BDCBB)
serves as a secondary power distribution center for -48VDC power delivered from

office battery plant to the load equipment. It provides power redundancy from
the battery plant

through the use of multiple load busses.
The BDFB/BDCBB may be configured for use in 7 FT, 8FT, 9 FT, or 11-1/2 FT
office environments.
It can be set up for top feed or bottom feed and equipped with multiple
fuse/circuit breaker
panels, load busses and optional return busses.

A
Changing a top feed to a bottom feed (or vice versa) is
accomplished by simply rotating the G20 load shunt assembly
180 degrees. Note: Bus bar links may need to be moved in
addition to what is described below.
1. Disconnect the shunt wires from the 2 shunts of the
load shunt assembly.
2. Remove the Nuts/Lock Washers/Flat Washers that connect
the load shunt assembly to the 2 panels. Save this hardware
to reattach the load shunt assembly.
3. Disconnect the shunt wires from the charge bus where you
wish to reconnect the load shunt assembly.
4. Rotate the load shunt assembly 180 degrees from it original
orientation and mount to the charge bus on the desired
DC panel pair.
5. Reconnect the shunt wires from step 1 to the shunts. Refer
to T-83150-30 to for wire orientation.
6. Reconnect the shunt wires from step 3 to the desired charge
bus bars (as they are connected on other charge bus bars)
or connect the respective shunt wires to each other using the
quick connects that are "pig tailed" onto the shunt wires.
7. If internal returns are present, then relocate as shown on sheet B13.
The bay has two floor footprints. G1 and G7 cabinets are 26inches wide
by 15 inches deep. The G2 cabinet is 26 inches wide by 18 inches
deep. G8 cabinet is 34 inches wide by 15 inches deep. The G3 cabinet
is 23.6 inches wide by 23.6 inches deep. Cabinets are equipped with
four .75x1.00 inch slots to accomodate various sizes and types of anchor
bolts (Table 1A). See sheets B12A, B12B, B12C and B12D.

Cabinet Ground
The frame ground connection located on top of the cabinets is sized for
1/4 inch bolts on .625 centers (See Table 1B). Lists 3 and 7 also include
ground connection sized for 3/8 inch bolts on 1 inch centers (See Table 1C
for these lugs). List 1 and 2 include a 846337798 bus bar adapter for the
larger ground connection.

RECOMMENDED TORQUE SETTINGS
It is recommended that C.O. ground be run from the battery plant discharge
return bus to building ground. BDFB/BDCBBs equipped with local discharge
return busses do not require their own C.O. grounds. However, Tyco's
BDFB/BDCBB is equipped with C.O. ground termination points for both
internal and external return buses. These connection points are as follows:

INSTALLATION MATERIAL REQUIRED

* Input and output cables and terminal lugs.
* Material handling equipment to unload bay at site, remove from
shipping container and set in final position.
* Lifting eye bolts with 5/8-11 threads.
* Floor mounting hardware.
* Drill to bore holes for floor anchors.
* Cable rack and associated hardware.
* Common electrician's hand tools including jewler's screwdriver,
electrical tape, wire cutters and strippers, etc.
* Proper crimping tools and dies for connectors. The connectors
specified in this ordering guide are WP-91412 and may be
installed with compression tools made by Thomas & Betts using
color dies.
* Common mechanic's hand tools, including flat blade screwdriver,
socket and torque wrenches for 1/4 inch and 3/8 inch bits,
crowbar for uncrating and a soldering iron.
* All load fuses.
* All load circuit breakers.
* All alarm fuses (0.18 amp GMT 402328926).
* Mounting hardware for connecting load return leads to external
discharge return bus.
* Central office frame and ground lugs.
* 22 gage wiring to connect external ground leads to digital
meters and alarm circuit modules.

Cable Routing Strategy
Load leads are routed along cable troughs on either side of the bay.
Location of the cable rack is important to reduce cable routing
problems. If possible, locate the cable rack along the front of the
bay as shown on sheet B4. The load leads should be run in three distinct
quadrants down the side of the cabinet. Run load leads to the top panels
toward the front of the cabinet , and run load leads to the bottom panels
toward the back of the cabinets. This is a recommended cabling scheme for
simplifying future cabling of the bay. See sheet B4.

Alarm Verification
Perform the following verification procedures with the load buses powered
from the battery plant, but with no load equipment in service.

Simulate a fuse failure alarm on each fuse panel by inserting a blown GMT
fuse in the indicating fuse position. Verify that the red LED on the
associated BEP1 circuit pack lights as well as the frame alarm lamp at the
top of the bay. If remote alarms are connected, verify that office alarms
are generated as specified by job records.
Simulate a panel power loss alarm on each fuse/circuit breaker panel by
turning off or disconnecting the circuit breaker or fuse feeding each load
bus. Verify that the green LED on the associated BEP1 circuit pack is
extinguished and that the frame alarm lamp at the top of the bay lights. If
remote alarms are connected, verify that office alarms are generated as
specified by the job record.
