Students need to be enrolled in at least 12 credits for immigration purposes. Students must agree their credit load with their Leeds study abroad coordinator. Accommodation Cost Private University Not known $7000 for triple occupancy to $9080 for single occupancy. Although a place in university accommodation cannot be guaranteed, RPI have never had problems allocating rooms to students in the past. Residences vary greatly in price. Meal plans are available but can be expensive. Previous students have commented that in the right residence, students can cook for themselves and perhaps save some money. Off-campus accommodation is also available for students and they should consult the website for information. Students do not usually have any difficulty securing a place in off-campus accommodation. RPI will work individually with each student to assist with their arrangements. Troy is known as the Collar City and is the home of Uncle Sam. It is considered to be the official gateway to the New York Canal System and boasts a picturesque waterfront park, a dock, and a marina. The city itself is acclaimed for events like its River Street Festival, the nation's largest Flag Day parade, and the wintertime favourite - the Victorian Stroll. The Capital region offers myriad trails for skiers, snowboarders, hikers, and mountain-bikers. The Adirondack Mountains of New York, the Berkshires in Massachusetts, Vermont’s Green Mountains and New York’s Catskills are all within an hour of Troy, and offer hundreds of areas for camping, hiking, and skiing. Many clubs sponsored by the Rensselaer Union take full advantage of these natural resources.
