Recommended
Uses:
A heavy bodied acrylic coating that fills and seals porous masonry walls to retard moisture, dampness and mildew. It is recommended
for above and below grade applications. Muralo Tite Plus® is especially recommended for use in basements and below grade garages.
When used on exterior surfaces Muralo Tite Plus® provides excellent protection against wind-driven rain and water passage through
porous masonry construction. Use on all painted or unpainted interior and exterior masonry surfaces such as; cinder block, concrete
block, brick, stucco, poured concrete, etc. It may also be used on surfaces of wood and primed metal adjacent to the primary masonry
painted area. Not recommended for floors.
Surface
Preparation:
Proper surface preparation is essential to every successful painting project.
WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN
CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN SHOULD ALSO AVOID
EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a wet mop.
Before you start, find out how to protect yourself and your family by contacting the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424LEAD or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.
All surfaces must be clean and free from chalk, efflorescence, mildew, dirt, dust grease, oil and peeling paint. Sandblasting or power
scrapers are recommended for masonry surfaces coated with deteriorating paint. After scraping, wash the surface down with a high
pressure hose before applying Tite Plus.
Mold and Mildew removal: Hire a professional mold and mildew remediator if you are not sure of how to safely and adequately
kill & remove mold and mildew.
Efflorescence, white powdery deposits of soluble salts drawn out of masonry by moisture, must be removed before applying Tite Plus.
Wire brushing and washing with a weak muriatic acid solution is recommended (1 part acid plus 5 parts water). Follow this with a
thorough rinsing with clear water.
Hairline cracks will be bridged and filled by Tite, but large cracks should be patched with masonry cement prior to painting. Running
leaks, such as pipes passing through masonry, are effectively stopped and sealed off with hydraulic cement.
Rust prone metals and staining woods must be primed with recommended Muralo primers. New or unpainted masonry:
Allow new concrete construction to cure 60 days before painting. Remove efflorescence as described above and apply one or two
coats of Muralo Tite Plus® depending upon the porosity of the surface. Previously painted masonry: Inspect the condition of the
substrate and prepare the surface as described in the Preparation Section.
Application:
Mix thoroughly before use. Do not apply when temperatures of the surfaces to be painted are less than 50 degrees F.
Brush or roller are suitable, although a roller may not be able to fill the pores and crevices as well as a brush.
Short bristled synthetic brushes are best. Use a scrubbing motion to work Tite Plus into voids and cracks, working form the unpainted
into the painted areas.
If a roller is used, choose one with a nap of at least one inch or more such as the Elder & Jenks 1” Pro Fab.
Examine the surface after the first coat for small holes that might require additional coat of Tite Plus.
Finish:
Low Gloss, sand finish texture
Colors:
White
Coverage:
Two coats are recommended for maximum protection - after application of second coat, if open holes are visible in the paint film, fill
the same by touching them up with Tite Plus®.
