Sentara – the new emergency lighting concept Emergency lighting redefined: flexible, mobile, easy to use. Introducing our new emergency lighting concept – Sentara. With this optimised system for controlling, monitoring and supplying escape route and exit sign luminaires, we are now able to fulfil many of the previously unattainable wishes of planners, technicians and users. Our total solution concept encompasses decentralisation with simple installation, easy extension options and greater freedom of handling and assembly. We believe this powerful combination from Sentara reflects an entirely new direction in innovative research and development thinking and sets new and exceptional standards in technical achievement. 2 Sentara is both in response to revised standards and recognition of the need for greater awareness in fire protection methodologies. In particular, the present state construction regulations, the model directive on cabling installation (MLAR) and EN 50171 (central power supply systems) all insist on solutions comprising a decentralised central power supply incorporating integral components. Our concept is in full compliance with these recommendations and expectations. Our solution consists of four main components, with specially developed hardware and software elements. In addition, less E30 installation material and junction boxes are needed in circuit integrity. So the system delivers substantial savings. Four versatile modules. 4 Sentara US Sentara LBS Independent substation modules Intelligent luminaire modules Our Sentara US microprocessor-controlled substations form the interface between the control centre – Sentara CPS – and the luminaires. The Sentara LBS compact luminaire modules monitor and control the escape route and exit sign luminaires. The luminaires constantly exchange information with their Sentara US substation via their supply cable. The substations will immediately switch on the escape route and exit sign luminaires within their compartment in the event of a break or power failure. They also save all luminaire data, which is then sent direct to the central system. Our Sentara mobile communication unit can be directly connected for substation and system operation. If planning is based on a fire compartment model when designing a building, this will reduce the work needed to define, count and equip the fire compartment with emergency lighting, which can be up to 1600 m2 in size. The location for the distributor housing is flexible as no electrical operating room is required in the fire compartment. In this way, the Sentara US can keep track of the state of the luminaires and the supply voltage. The system will recognise any deviation and react to any faults occurring within a fraction of a second. All modules and luminaires are marked with a bar code, which enables the unique addresses of each of the lamps to be identified both quickly and easily. When put into operation for the first time, the substations will automatically find and recognise all the luminaire modules on their network and register them within the system. Sentara CPS is where all the relevant system parameters are recorded and prepared for data output to the mobile communication unit. It also keeps the battery constantly charged so that, in a crisis, switchover to the emergency power source to directly supply the escape route and exit sign luminaires is ensured. Alternatively, the emergency power source can supply the luminaires using static or rotary converters. The mobile communication unit enables technicians and endusers to input and extract data and system parameters from any location, in addition to programming and controlling the operation modes of all the luminaires. The mobile terminal can be docked onto various points of the communication system, connected via bus lines between the central system and substations. The bus structure is completely flexible and offers planners space for all conceivable solutions. 5 Kaufel ›› www.kaufel.de ›› kaufel.germany@tnb.com ›› Phone +49 (0)30 / 70 17 33 - 300 Sentara US ›› P ushbutton reporting to Sentara CPS. ›› L oad circuits protected with 8AT/6.3 x 32 ›› D C supply 220V with both mains and battery operation.
