INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS 153726 Today s Design House. Mequon, WI 53092 800-558-8700 CEILING FAN INSTALLATION & OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT SAFEGUARDS 1. To ensure the success of installation, be sure to read the instructions and review the diagrams thoroughly before beginning. 2. To avoid possible electrical shock, be sure electricity is turned off at main power box before wiring. All electrical connections must be in accordance with local codes, ordinances or National Electrical Code. If you are unfamiliar with methods of installing electrical wiring, secure the services of a qualified electrician who can check the strength of the supportive ceiling members and make proper electrical connections. 3. Make sure that your installation site will not allow rotating fan blades to come in contact with any object. 4. If the fan will be mounted on a ceiling outlet box, a 4x2-1/8 deep metal octagon box is required. The box and its support must be able to support the moving weight of the fan (at least 50 lbs.) The box must not twist or work loose. Do not use plastic boxes. 5. Blades should be attached after motor housing is hung and is in place. Fan motor housing should be kept in carton until ready to be installed. 6. After fan is completely installed make sure that all connections are secure to prevent fan from falling. 7. LUBRICATION - The fan can be operated immediately after installation. The ball bearings are adequately charged with grease so that, under normal conditions, further attention is not necessary. 8. All set screws must be checked and retightened when necessary before installation. NOTE: The important safeguards and instructions appearing in this manual are not meant to cover all possible conditions and situations that may occur. It must be understood that common sense, caution and carefulness are factors which cannot be built into this product. These factors must be supplied by the person(s) caring for and operating the unit. -1- A-1 FOR CEILING FAN WITH DOWNROD HANGING SYSTEM ASSEMBLING DOWNROD WITH MOTOR ( *See DIG.0) IN CASE OF DIFFICULTY: Before consulting customer service, It may be possible you have incorrectly assembled, *NOTE: If your ceiling fan is received with downrod and motor assembling together, you can skip this section. installed or wired your ceiling fan. In some cases, these may be mistaken for defects. If you experience any faults, please check this Trouble Shooting Chart. Prior to removal of MOTOR from its lower styrofoam base, place empty upper styrofoam cover upside down. Carefully lift MOTOR out and place on this cover. This will ensure no damage may occur during assembling. 1. Fan will not start 1. Slip CANOPY along DOWNROD so that CANOPY can cover HANGBALL. Feed power wires & light wire through DOWNROD (start at lower end ) until they emerge from top. 2. It is ABSOLUTELY essential the DOWNROD be properly secured to the DOWNROD COUPLING to prevent possible separation when fan is operated in the reverse mode. 3. - Tighten DOWNROD COUPLING SECURITY SCREW. - Loosen DOWNROD SECURITY SCREW to allow for complete entry of DOWN ROD. - PUT DOWNROD into DOWNROD COUPLING visually align holes in DOWNROD and DOWNROD COUPLING. Install DOWNROD COTTER PIN through holes and insert DOWNROD COTTER KEY. Secure by twisiting ends of DOWNROD COTTER KEY with a pair of pliers so removal is not possible. - Test security by attempting to twist DOWNROD. DIG.0 1. Check main and branch circuit fuses or circuit breakers. 2. Check line wire connections to fan and switch wire connections in switch housing. CAUTION: Make sure main power is turned off. 2. Fan sounds noisy. 1. Check to make sure all screws in motor housing are tight (not over-tight). 2. Check to make sure the screws which attach the fan blade holder to the motor hub are tight. 3. Check to make sure wire nut connectors in switch housing are not rattling against each other or against the interior wall of the switch housing. CAUTION: Make sure main power is turned off before entering switch housing. 4. If using an optional Ceiling Fan Light Kit, check to be sure the screws securing the glassware are finger tight, Check to be sure light bulb is tight in socket. 5. Some fan motors are sensitive to signals from Solid-State variable speed controls. If Solid-State Control is used and motor noise results choose an alternative control method. 6. Check the upper canopy is a short distance away from the ceiling. It should not be allowed to touch ceiling. 7. Allow a running - in period of 24 hours. Most noises, associated with a new fan, will disappear after this period. Fan wobbles All blades are weighted and grouped by weight. Natural wood vary in density which could cause the fan to shakes or wobble even though all blades are weight matched. The following procedures should eliminate most excessively of the wobble. Check for wobble after each step. Please note that a certain amount of wobble is normal and should not be considered as a problem. 1. Check that all blades are screwed firmly into blade brackets. 2. Check that all blade brackets are tightened securely to the motor hub. 3. If fan light has center shade, be sure fitter is screwed tightly into bottom cap. Be certain that the shade is centered within shadeholder by adjusting shadeholder screws. 4. Wobble problems could also result from deviations in distance from blade to blade. To check blade separation measure the distance from blade tip. All measurements should be equal. If these measurements vary, loosen screws connecting blades and brackets ( one at a time) then shift blade to proper position and tighten screw. Interchanging adjacent (side-by-side) blade pairs can redistribute the weight and result in smoother operation. - 11 - F.
