I NTRODUCTION TO I NSTRUMENTATION
L ABORATORY
The purpose of this lab is to introduce you to some basic
instrumentation used in the freshman lab. You will learn to use a DC
power supply to create DC voltage (Constant in time), a Digital
Multimeter (DMM) that can measure current, voltage, resistance,
frequency, and period. Also a Function Generator generates AC test

To learn about the power supply, DMM, Function Generator,
and Oscilloscope.

The Digital Oscilloscope is used to measure and
display AC measurements. It is an important to learn
how to correctly set up this instrument to make
measurements such as Frequency and Voltage as a
function of time.

The Oscilloscope displays a signal similar to figure 1,
with an axis for voltage and an axis for time. The
scales of the two axes are displayed on the
oscilloscope screen and are given in Volts/Div and
Sec/ Div, Respectively. Div is short for division, which
refers to the line marking on the screen.

To make automatic measurements on the oscilloscope/ Agilent 54622A:

You can use automatic measurements on any channel source. Cursors
are turned on to focus on the most recently selected measurement.
•Press the quick measurement key to display the automatic menu.

•Press the source soft key to select the channel on which the quick
measurement will be made.
•Press the clear measurement soft key to stop measurements, and to
erase the measurement results from the measurement line above the
soft key.
•Choose what measurements you want on the select by pressing the
soft key.
•To turn off quick measurement,
measurement press the Quick meas.

Accuracy of a measurement signifies how close the measurement
is to the standard ( true) value. In other words, how correct is the
measurement. The accuracy is defined as:
