ELECTRONICS SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN
WIT Diverse Campus Services Ltd. at Waterford Institute of Technology is engaged in the provision of
student services and facilities, which include Catering, Retail, Sport, Accommodation, Transport,
WITCard, etc.
Main Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Unit Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following;
 Work primarily in the Technical Support area for WIT Campus Services systems including the
WITCard system and the smart card suite of applications including time and attendance, access
control, vending, value load, point of sale and printing and copying stations, etc. The technologies
used are Mifare encoders and readers, magnetic stripe encoders and readers, barcode readers,
Linux print stations, RS232/RS48522 networking technologies and Linux backend servers.
 Complete electronic/computing projects from the design phase right through to implementation
and support.
 Implement projects when assigned.
 Provide technical support to WIT Campus Services operations.
 Software and hardware installation.
 Configuration and end-user support on various smart card hardware and other hardware as
assigned.
 Implementation of maintenance prevention procedures for all systems.
 Setup of electronic equipment for functions/events.
 Servicing of IT and electronic hardware and software equipment, when required.
 Liaising with system providers to full-fill contract obligations including support and maintenance,
system upgrades, checks, problem resolution, etc.
 Checking and monitoring service provision from contract companies.
 Check, monitor and evaluate back-up procedures for all WIT Campus Services systems, including
all WITCard applications.
 Access Control: Managing and implementing new systems, when required.
 Maintenance and housekeeping of all electronic systems, which include all WITCard applications.
 Research of new hardware and software when required and processing of quotation orders.
 Conduct site evaluations when requested.
 Any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time.
Qualifications/Experience/Skill Set:
Electronics Systems Technician
The successful candidate will hold a degree in Electronic Engineering, with a minimum of 2 years relevant
experience in a similar environment. Strong communication, problem-solving, time management and
organisation skills are essential.
