DESCRIPTION The ARC 812 and ARC 1512 circuit breakers are direct current unipolar devices with a bi-directional over-current and trip free release. These are electromagnetic control devices. 2.1 Description of ARC1200 circuit breaker Products from 1200A ARC range have a common general architecture and differ by the size of the arc chute (function of the operating voltage). - the body (also called frame - 1) which is common part of the range ARC 15 The circuit breaker consists of two main part assembly : - the arc chute (2) with two main versions (for 750V and 1500V applications) 12 Nominal voltage (102 V) Nominal current (102 A) Fig.1.1 – Identification mode Their compactness and ability to operate either vertically or horizontally make the ARC1200A circuit breakers particularly adaptable to assembly in : Electrical blocks or cases for rolling stock (for horizontal mounting, it is recommended to use horizontal fitting option) Shielded cases of the industrial type cabinets for fixed installations. The circuit breaker design leads to an easy maintenance and high number of operations. The main wearing parts may be changed without completely dismantling the circuit breaker. Fig.2.1 – ARC812 circuit breaker (without options) 2.2 Operating mode Mechanical operation Closing The energizing of the electromagnet causes the movement of the main contacts and the movable pole contact comes to the fixed pole contact. Opening by holding current cut off Due to the effect of springs the breaking of the holding current pull the moving pole contact arm to the "open" position. Opening by direct over-current release When the current travelling through the circuit breaker exceeds the release setting threshold, the equilibrium is broken and the movable pole contact arm is pulled back to the "open" position by the effect of return spring. ABCD 2/8 TRK5650515200 ed1 BP 4 - Rue du Docteur GUINIER - 65600 SEMEAC – France TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION ARC1200 Electrical operation During opening the electric arc develops between the contacts and then, under the effect of the magnetic field, progresses onto the horns. The arc is forced to enter the arc chute by thermodynamic and magnetic effects. The arc chute consists of metal plates which are intended to fraction the arc and to develop the back-electromotive force required for its extinction. 2.3 Variants and Accessories Battery voltage Input voltage Part number 24 V DC 16,8 V to 30 VDC DTR0000078658 36 V DC 24 V to 44 VDC DTR0000078659 48 V DC 33,6 V to 60 VDC DTR0000078660 72 V DC 50,4 V to 90 VDC DTR0000078661 110 V DC 77 V to 137,5 VDC DTR0000078663 Variant 1 : Arc chute The sizes of the 750V and 1500V arc chutes are linked to the number of metal plates in the arc chute. Recommended accessory : Control panel 750V 1500V Fig.2.4 – ARC1200 arc chutes Fig.2.3 – ARC812 electronic control panel Covers and lateral seals can be used in option to reduce distances between arc chute and metallic parts (either metallic walls or components). Its main functions are to provide a pulse current to close the circuit breaker and hold the circuit breaker closed with reduced current. The main advantages are : - energy calibration for closing (mechanical shock limitation during closing for circuit breaker) which leads to increase and control life cycle cost of breaker. - low power dissipation during holding with regulated current (<30W) - wide input battery voltage range condition according to CEI 60077. Rated input voltage from 16 to 140VDC safe opening circuit is guaranteed with double system to open current of the coil, either power transistor and electromechanical relay controlled separately. Feedback signals are available for system diagnostic as state of the output and state of electromechanical relay. INTEGRATION Variant 2 : Tripping range The circuit breaker is equipped with an overcurrent release which is supplied directly by the current in the main circuit of the device. The tripping range is the range between the minimum and maximum values within the current setting of the over-current release can be adjusted. • • • • The integration of the DC circuit breaker inside a cubicle is an important matter. Attention has to be paid on volume of free air around the product, evacuation of ionized gas and risk of flashover to metal parts. The position of the circuit breaker is also important – see pictures 3.1 and 3.2. The electronic panel shall be installed in such a way to prevent any metallic projection from the arc chute. 400 to 800 A 600 to 1200 A 1200 to 2500 A 1800 to 3600 A Option : Overcurrent signalling contact An over-current release signalling contact indicates the state of the circuit breaker : when contact is in close state, the circuit breaker is open following an tripping event.
