THANK YOU!
The Board of Trustees, Library Director and
staff of the Peninsula Public Library wish to
extend a sincere thank you to the residents of
School District #15 for approving the 2016-2017
budget. The overwhelming support of our
community allows us to continue with our
commitment to provide meaningful, entertaining
and interesting programs and services to support
life-long learning.
September is Library Sign-up Month. It is the
time to obtain a free library card. We look
forward to serving you.
PPL offers passes that provide free admission
to several museums. The Jewish Museum and the
New York Historical Society Museum have been
added. The passes are available free to PPL
cardholders.
We shall continue to work hard to meet the
growing needs of our community and patrons.

Coloring clubs are the newest craze and have been
proven to have a calming effect that reduces stress.
Board games are available and a means to keep the laughs
abundant. Some board games are provided, but feel free

political hysteria. When McCarthyism raged, Arthur Miller
wrote a play about the Salem witch trials to dramatize the
danger of blind fear. This classic is still relevant today!
Audrey Hepburn, Portrait Of A Lady
Thursday, July 28, 1PM
Ms. Hepburn experienced the devastation of WWII first-hand
as a child in occupied Holland. More than a legendary figure
of beauty, grace and charm, she worked tirelessly as a
UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. This media presentation will
examine the life and work of the fabulous Audrey Hepburn.
Led by chronicler Marilyn Carminio.

of the Met Breuer; the Modernist icon designed by
Marcel Breuer. In this visual lecture, Professor
Germano will discuss the inaugural exhibitions and
planned exhibits for the upcoming season.

This visual lecture, concurrent with the exhibition at the Met,
bears witness to the crucial role that the Holy City played in
shaping world culture. Many of the works of art have come from
Jerusalem, including key loans from its religious communities.

Bernini was the leading sculptor and major figure in the world of architecture in seventeenth-century Italy. One
scholar commented, “What Shakespeare is to drama, Bernini is to sculpture.” His naturalistic sculptured pieces are

At the heart of the action is the Arab-Israeli
conflict and the lengths that a father will go to
protect his daughter. Historical, political, and
biblical information influences the characters’
stories and quandaries. This is a page-turning read,
filled with despair and anger but also with hope, love
and humanity at its core. Led by noted book facilitator
Mira Rosenfeld Sennett.

We welcome Christine Reilly who will read, discuss, and
sign copies of her first novel. It’s a story about family:
tender and dark, big-hearted and heart-breaking, filled with
roaring truths. Ms. Reilly is a Cedarhurst native and
Lawrence High School graduate. She attended Bucknell University
and Sarah Lawrence’s MFA programs.
Our Souls at Night (Kent Haruf)

The story is set in Haruf’s familiar and beloved fictional town of Holt, Colorado. Widowed neighbors Louis Waters and
Addie Moore bond over their shared loneliness. Haruf’s bittersweet yet inspiring tale traces the development of a loving
relationship built on confidences and memories, but compromised by the disapproval of friends and family. Led by book
commentator Anna Katsavos.

account of the anti-Communist witch hunt.
August 30.. Brooklyn (PG 13-120 min.) Saoirse Ronan gives a lively
and subtle performance as a young woman who emigrates
from Ireland to New York. An adaptation of the novel by
Colm Toibin.

Organic food is very popular, but navigating the maze
of organic food labels can be confusing. Registered
dietitian Pnina Mohr will discuss the pros and cons of
eating organic, as well as concerns about pesticides and
foods that are environmentally friendly.
Understanding Alzheimer’s Disease
Wednesday, September 7, 2PM
At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to
help maintain or even improve our health. These habits
keep our brains healthy as we age and may delay the
onset of cognitive decline. Learn more about how
healthy living helps healthy aging. A representative
from the Alzheimer’s Association will be our guest
speaker.
