Page |1 Guidelines, Policies and Procedures Mission Statement A safe place for LEAH Homeschool families to learn, grow and make new friends. Vision We are a Christ-centered cooperative that provides a variety of educational and enrichment classes for homeschooling families in a safe and loving environment. We co-labor with each other and God to achieve creative excellence by serving each other through our strengths. Overview As homeschool parents, we feel that God has called and enabled us to homeschool our children. We feel that cooperatively we can provide enrichment opportunities that may not be possible on our own. Parent Responsibilities 1. We expect everyone, both children and adults to demonstrate respect and a spirit of cooperation with everyone else in the co-op. 2. Everyone should be on time for co-op. Please note that group time in the sanctuary is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. Please plan to arrive at least 10 minutes before. 3. If you cannot fulfill your commitment one week, it is your responsibility to contact your coteacher and call the scheduler. 4. A parent or other responsible adult (guardian) must remain on site AT ALL TIMES. If a parent can’t attend one Wednesday and she wants her children to attend, she must find a replacement to stay with her children the entire time. This can be another parent. This person is responsible to be present when the children arrive and should stay until dismissal. This person will also be responsible should any emergencies arise. 5. Parents must be willing to adhere to and uphold the Discipline Procedures (see below). 6. All classrooms need to be tidy and in order before the next class begins. Building cleanliness and arrangement of property is to be maintained and left at least as good as it was found. Remember that we are guests in the building. If we don’t adhere to these guidelines and conduct ourselves appropriately, we may not be invited back. 7. In addition to teaching/assisting in 2 periods for 12 weeks each family is responsible to stay late one week to clean the building. A schedule will be made at the beginning of the academic year. All families who are participating in the 4 yearly events (Opening picnic, Christmas party, Closing ceremony, field day) are required to help with these events. 8. Parents should ensure their children wear clothing conducive to a healthy, learning environment which is modest and without any offensive language. If there is ever a question in the mind of a student or parent about the appropriateness of an outfit, it should not be worn. 9. Everyone should keep their commitments. Examples include teaching, assisting, building cleaning, etc. 10. All teachers must profess faith in Jesus Christ for salvation, must be a follower of Jesus Christ, and must uphold and adhere to the Dutchess County LEAH Statement of Faith. 11. No children under 18 are allowed anywhere in the building without immediate observing adult supervision, especially the loft, the nursery or classrooms. Page |2 Student Policies “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” 1 Timothy 4:12 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Be respectful and courteous to all adults as well as to fellow students. Language should always be God-honoring, completely free from any hint of cursing, rudeness, or disrespect. Students should refrain from obscene language such as: taking the name of the Lord in vain, suggestive talk, rude comments, “smart talk”, or mean spirited teasing Students are to be reminded that they represent the Lord Jesus Christ in the manner of the dress they choose. NO t-shirts with questionable imprinting will be permitted. Shorts and skirts are to be conservative. If there is ever a question in the mind of a student or parent about the appropriateness of an outfit, it should not be worn. Let’s honor one another and not cause our brother or sister to stumble. Be on time, be prepared and be willing to participate in all classes for which you are enrolled. Please remember the class instructor has made a commitment and has spent time preparing for each student. Be quiet in the halls between classes—absolutely no yelling or running. No public displays of affection between boys and girls age 12+. All electronic equipment including cell phones must be turned off during class time. Show respect for the building and church property. Building cleanliness and arrangement of property is to be maintained and left at least as good as it was found. Remember that we are guests in the building. If we don’t adhere to these guidelines and conduct ourselves appropriately, we may not be invited back. Discipline Procedures Correction for misbehavior (disrespectful to their teachers and classmates, in word or deed, such as blatant disrespect, cursing, fighting, dishonesty, striking in anger, etc.) is a Biblical concept, and a part of any instruction and learning. No H.S. Kids student will receive any type of corporal punishment. It is not our desire to be harsh, but we want to ensure an environment that is conducive to academic growth for all the students. We recognize that our co-op exists on the good will of all of the families who participate, and it is only fair that no one student be allowed to create an atmosphere that detracts from our children’s ability to learn and form lasting friendships. It is for this reason that the Leadership Team retains the right to take any reasonable disciplinary action to maintain an environment conducive to learning. If a disciplinary issue arises, a student, will be brought to the parent. The child will be able to return to class that day at the teacher’s discretion. If the offense occurs repeatedly, the parent will be asked to meet with the Leadership Team. A parent may be required to accompany the student to class for 1-3 weeks. This is in order for parents to have control of and provide training for their children at H.S. Kids. In the most severe offenses, the Leadership Team has the authority to expel the student from the co-op. Registration Policy A per family fee is required with your registration. Current families are given first choice for enrollment and remaining openings are filled on a first come first served basis. Page |3 Refund Policy There are no refunds. Illness Policy Anyone with the following symptoms should be symptom free for 24 hours prior to returning to H.S. Kids. If your child is on antibiotics it should be 24 hours since the first dose. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Fever (within the last twenty-four hours) Colored mucus (yellow or green snotty nose) Diarrhea, vomiting or nausea Eye drainage Virus or infection (known to be contagious) Rashes (including bleeding diaper rashes) Head lice This is for the protection of the children and families involved, so we can continue to provide the highest quality program for all children. Please be considerate of others regarding your child(ren) and illnesses. Communication Co-op members will be contacted via e-mail. Members are responsible for reading their e-mails to learn important announcements related to the co-op. Inclement Weather Policy Closings due to weather will follow the Arlington Central School District cancellation/delay alerts. If Arlington CSD is closed due to weather conditions, then there will NO co-op classes. If Arlington CSD is delayed due to weather conditions, co-op classes will continue at the regular time. Dismissal Policy All children will be brought to the gym for dismissal. Parents are to pick up their children from the gym after picking up any children from the nursery. Reminder: No children under 18 are allowed anywhere in the building without immediate observing adult supervision, especially the loft, the nursery or classrooms.
