AP Physics Summer Packet
Read Chapter 1, 2 and 3 of Knight Physics for Scientist and Engineers which are on the RM
Science website (http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/schools/rmhs/departments/science/) in
the Science Summer Work Section. Do the following end of chapter problems:
Chapter 1 problems: 8, 9, 23, 27, 28, 29, 35, 41, 53, 55
Chapter 2 problems: 7, 8, 11, 13, 18, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 31, 37, 47, 48, 56, 63, 72, 83
Chapter 3 problems: 3, 13, 15, 24, 35, 38, 46
Complete the three chapter workbooks that are also posted. They are intended to foster your
conceptual understanding.
In addition I have posted chapters 4 and 5 if you want to read ahead.
All work is due the day you return. The problems and workbooks will count as the equivalent of
a test on your first quarter grade. You may turn it in up until the following Monday for partial
credit.
You should plan on spending 3 to 10 hours on each of the first chapters. We will go over the
packet and there will be a unit test in the first week or so from the start of school. Make a copy of
what you turn in to reference as we review the packets. Also keep a list of questions that you
may have on the material. In a few weeks I will post answers to selected problems so that you
can check your answers and correct them as needed.
I encourage you to discuss the material in groups, but the work you turn in should be your own.
