Before You Begin
There are a few things you can do to prepare yourself and your camera for
the installation process:
• Ensure you have a monitor to connect to the camera for adjusting
the field of view and camera lens settings.
• Remove the turret from the gimbal. See Removing the Turret on
page 14.
• Know the type of wiring connection for your camera, either BNC
or UTP.
• Look for the DIP switches if you are installing a 540 TVL camera.
You will use the dip switches later when you are configuring the
camera.
Note
Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) and Digital Noise Reduction
(DNR) cameras are programmable. Therefore, the joystick on
the gimbal is operational. See Configuring a WDR Camera on
page 30 and Configuring a DNR Camera on page 41.

13
Caution
·Always handle the bottom housing from its outside
surface.
·The bubble surface can be cleaned with a non-abrasive
glass cleaner.
Removing the Turret
You must remove the turret from the camera gimbal before you can install
and adjust (position, focus, iris) the lens or, with some models, before you
can access the DIP switches or joystick for configuring the camera.

Note
The back box is not supplied. Also, if you have a BNC
connection and are installing the HD5 with a back box, you
will need to purchase the Back Box Extender kit. Contact
Honeywell Customer Service to order (see the back cover for
contact information).
Note
The camera configuration process is different for WDR and
DNR camera types.
Installing the Lens
The HD5 is shipped with one of four lenses (Manual or Auto Iris 2.7-13.5
mm; Manual or Auto Iris 5-50 mm). Installing an Auto Iris lens involves an
extra step, which is to connect the lens control cable. See step 3.

Note
1.
2.
To protect the lens, leave the lens cap on the lens until you
have installed it.
Remove the lens from its box.
Screw the lens into the lens mount.

Caution
3.
Ensure that the lens is screwed all the way into the
mount. If it is not secured, it could become loose when
you are adjusting the zoom and focus.
If you have the Auto Iris lens, insert the lens control cable into the lens
control connector.
18
Housing Installation
There are three options for mounting the HD5 camera: in-ceiling without a
back box, pendant (kit not supplied), and in-ceiling with a back (gang) box
(not supplied).
Installing without a Back Box
Note
1.
2.
3.
Your local state regulations might require that all wiring be
contained within a metal box. If you have a BNC connection,
then you might require a Back Box Extender Kit to gain
additional space to contain the coiled wires. Contact
Honeywell Customer Service to order the Back Box Extender
Kit (see the back cover for contact information). Please follow
the installation instructions included with that kit.
Peel off the backing paper of the round template (found in packing
box), then affix the mounting template to the mounting surface.
Pre-drill at least three holes around the circle, as indicated on the
template, using the recommended hole size for the screws being
used. Trace the outline of the circle for the HD5 housing.
Remove the mounting template and cut the round hole for the HD5
housing.

Install the 3 mounting screws
(supplied). You might want to
use drywall anchors (not
supplied).
Slide the spacer down onto
the lower dome.
Connect the wiring as shown
in Cable Options on page 15.
Mount the camera to the
ceiling by fitting the large
ends of the keyhole slots over
the large ends of the
mounting screws, then
rotating the camera mount
counter-clockwise to lock into
place.
Tighten the mounting screws
to secure the HD5.

Installing a Pendant Dome
A pendant kit is available for the HD5 as an optional mounting choice.
Contact Honeywell Customer Service to order (see the back cover for
contact information). These installation instructions assume the mount for
the fixed camera dome has already been installed in the pendant. The top
20
pendant dome requires a ¾" NPT (National Pipe Thread) or straight pipe
thread connection.
1. Loosen the three Phillips Top dome
1
head screws on the
pendant mount. DO NOT
REMOVE THE SCREWS.
2. Connect either the BNC
or UTP video cable and
the power cable.
3. Secure the camera
mounting plate onto the
top dome by fitting the
2
mounting plate key slots
(large key slots) over the
three Phillips head
screws, then rotating the
3
mounting plate so that
the screw heads are in
the small end of the key
holes.
4. Tighten the three Phillips
head screws.

Installing with a Back Box (ceiling or wall mount)
Note
Using the back box (not supplied) is optional for mounting the
HD5 in the ceiling or wall. The HD5 can be directly mounted to
the ceiling or wall. If you are installing the HD5 directly into the
ceiling or wall, go to Setting Up the Camera on page 24.
Note
Your local state regulations might require that all wiring be
contained within a metal box. If you have a BNC connection,
then you might require a Back Box Extender Kit to gain
additional space to contain the coiled wires. Contact
Honeywell Customer Service to order (see the back cover for
contact information).
Note
If the back box is already installed, go to step 7 on page 23.
1.
Cut a 4¼" x 4¼" hole in the ceiling using the square template (found in
packing box)
2.
Attach the winged bracket to the back box.
4¼”x4¼”
Note
3.
22
This step may already be done.
Pull the field-run camera power and video coaxial cable through one
of the knockouts in the back box (not supplied). You need 6 inches of
slack cable from the back box to the dome camera so you can easily
make the connections.
4.
5.
6.
Push the back box with winged bracket through the hole.
Push the two screw heads flush with the box to ensure the winged
bracket goes all the way through the ceiling hole and then springs out.
Tighten the two screws until the box is secure and the bottom edge of
the back box is flush with the ceiling.
Note
7.
The gimbal position might prevent access to the mounting
screws.
Secure the housing base to the back box by fitting the large ends of
the keyhole slots in the mounting plate over the two mounting screws
(supplied with back box) and then rotating the mounting base until the
screw heads are in the small end of the keyhole slots. (See below.)
Tighten the mounting screws.

Setting Up the Camera
There are two aspects of adjusting the camera: adjusting the field of view
and focusing. Before you do either, you must connect a spot monitor to the
camera and remove the lens cap.
Connecting a Spot Monitor
Connect the second video cable (supplied in the Accessories package) to the
output connector and to the spot monitor.
NTSC/PAL
Switch
Note
24
If you have an HD5U and the picture is scrambled, check the
PAL/NTSC switch and set it to your preferred format.
Adjusting the Field of View and Focus
Apply power to the camera and watch the video on a connected spot
monitor. Rotate parts of the gimbal to adjust the field of view of the camera.
Rotate the focus ring on the lens to adjust the focus.
Note
You will need to rotate the lower dome and place it in front of
the camera lens to properly adjust the camera.

Do not turn the lens more than 360° as this might cause the
internal cables to twist and disconnect or break.
