ELECTRICAL
Accessories shall be of a modular design
allowing them to be ganged with a Beacon
Medical (Puritan-Bennett) manufactured medical
gas outlets on the job site to create a consolelike appearance. Each accessory shall consist
of a rough-in and finish assembly. All Electrical
Accessories utilize UL/CSA recognized hospital
grade receptacles. The rough-in for electrical
devices shall include a standard electrical box
for electrical connections. Gauges shall have a
pressure range of 0-100 psi for Oxygen, Nitrous
Oxide, Medical air, and Carbon Dioxide; 0-300
psi for Nitrogen and 0-30” Hg for Vacuum and
Evacuation. Gas specificity shall be maintained
by positive pin indexing between rough-in and
finish assembly. A machined brass outlet block
shall be permanently attached to the mounting
plate in such a manner so as to permit the 7inch long, 3/8” O.D. type K copper inlet tube to
be swiveled 360° for attachment to the piping
system. A secondary valve shall be installed in
the outlet block assembly for pressure testing
and to prevent gas flow when the gauge is
removed.

insert and rough-in assembly. Blanks shall consist of a
standard rough-in assembly with solid anodized aluminum
insert plate and chrome plated cover plate.

Ohmeda (Ohio Medical) Compatible Quick Connect Medical Gas outlets shall
be gas specific for the services indicated and accept only corresponding
Ohmeda (Ohio Medical) Quick Connect adapters. The Outlets shall be UL
listed, CSA approved, and meet NFPA 99 Standards (formally NFPA 56-F). All
outlets shall be tested and cleaned for oxygen service prior to shipping. A
complete outlet shall consist of a gas specific finishing assembly to be
installed after walls are finished and a matching gas specific finishing
assembly to be installed after walls are finished.
The rough-in assembly shall be of modular design and include a gas specific
16 ga. steel mounting plate designed to permit on-site ganging of multiple
outlets, in any order, on any order, on 5 inch centerline spacing. A machined
brass outlet block shall be permanently attached to the mounting plate in
such a manner so as to permit the 7 inch long, 3/8” O.D. type K copper inlet
tube to be swiveled 360o for attachment to the piping system. A secondary
valve shall be installed in the outlet block assembly for pressure testing and
to prevent gas flow when the latch/valve assembly is removed for service. A
1/2” high metal flange around the outlet block seal opening shall provide a
plaster barrier. Gas service identification shall be affixed to the inlet tube and
the face of the mounting plate. A temporary, transparent cover shall be
provided to keep debris out of the outlet during installation while permitting
labels to be viewed for outlet service identity.
The latch/valve assembly shall include a double seal primary valve and be
gas specific for the labeled service and accept only corresponding Ohmeda
(Ohio Medical) Compatible hose and apparatus adapters. The latch/valve
assembly shall be indexed to the corresponding rough-in assembly to avoid
accidental cross-fitting and shall telescope up to 3/4” to allow for variation in
finished wall thickness from 1/2” to 1-1/4”. A metal trim plate with permanent,
color coded marking of service identification shall be included as part of the
latch/valve assembly.
A die cast, chrome plated coverplate shall be provided to trim each outlet and
to fill the space between adjacent outlets. Coverplate design shall allow latch
valves to be individually removed for servicing.

Index Safety System (DISS) threaded connectors and accept only corresponding
gas specific type nut and nipple adapters. Each latch valve assembly shall be
color-coded for ease of gas identification per the appropriate standards (US or
ISO). Latch valve assemblies shall have gas specific pin indexing corresponding to
the rough-in assembly to prevent interchangeability of gas services and shall
adjust up to 1” for variations in wall thickness.
The latch valve assembly shall be Puritan-Bennett quick connect compatible and
accept only gas specific Puritan-Bennett type quick connect adapters. Each
latch valve assembly shall be color-coded for ease of gas identification per the

Description
The Oxequip® Med*Star® Series outlet stations provide convenient access to medical
gases in patient care locations. They are fully compatible with Med*Star and ’07 Series
adapters.
The outlets can be grouped together in any order desired by the facility. Outlets are
spaced 5" (12.7 cm) center to center. Outlet finish plates and rough-in plates are pin
indexed using steel pins for positive cross-connection prevention. Valve bodies are
separate from the finish plate, allowing easy testing for leaks and cross connection, and
contain a self-sealing poppet. Valve bodies are field adjustable to compensate for variations in plaster thickness of 12.7 mm (1/2") to
19 mm (3/4").
The 152.5 mm (6") Type K copper inlet tube has a 9.5 mm (3/8") ID (12.7 mm (1/2") OD) connection, and can rotate 360 degrees to
accommodate any field piping arrangement. The primary gas check can be serviced without shutting off the gas supply.
The cam plate contains a positive latching mechanism to retain the adapter in the outlet. The adapter is removed by operating the
release mechanism which is integral to the Med*Star adapter (’07 Series adapters use the twist mechanism).
All components (cam plate, tumbler, valve body, poppet, faceplate) are individually field replaceable.
The outlet stations are fully compliant with NFPA 99 (2002) and CSA Z-305, and are cleaned for oxygen service in accordance with
CGA G-4.1. The outlet is UL listed. Rough-in plates for the outlets are zinc plated steel for corrosion resistance and fire safety. Finish
plates are die-cast zinc, chrome-plated with brushed stainless inserts for appearance. Gas identification is provided by a
polycarbonate plastic insert, color-coded by gas service.
The cam plate/tumbler assembly is color-coded and labeled for the gas service. Release is easily accomplished with one hand using
the adapter release mechanism. The primary valve poppet provides a dust proof seal. Vacuum outlets may be used with or without
slide brackets for vacuum collection bottles of up to 2 liters (1/2 gallon) capacity (where slides are used, provide one per vacuum
outlet).

Easy to do!
Chemetron modernization kits are available
for updating of outlets in walls, patient
bedside consoles, prefabricated modular wall
systems, ceiling columns as well as for
Vacpak respiratory and suction service
cabinets. And this updating can be done as
the need arises, and/or time permits. They
have an attractive stainless steel fascia with a
satin finish. The fascia has a color coded tab
for easy release of secondary equipment. It is
also safety-keyed by gas service to the
existing back box.
The number of parts and assembly has been
simplified since a rugged latching mechanism
is now part of the fascia assembly. Many kits
are available with a complete valve body
assembly offering improved flow
characteristics. The modernization kits are
designed to allow hospital maintenance
personnel to easily and economically update
older version NCG outlets and enjoy all the
benefits of the new, simplified 400 Series
Outlet. The following illustrates the ease with
which this updating can be carried out.
STEP 1
a. Remove and discard cover screws and
old cover plate.
b. Remove and discard stabilizer screws and
and stabilizer, if applicable.
c. Remove and discard latch screws and latch
(except on 148 series).
d. Remove valve body assembly if it is to be
replaced with a new valve body assembly.
STEP 2
a. Mount conversion guard to outlet box with
tamper-proof screws as illustrated. The gas
service is stamped into the conversion guard
for identification.
CAUTION: Extreme care must be taken
to ensure that the Conversion Guard
included with the kit is used for the
specific gas service for which it is
intended. This is necessary to avoid the
possibility of interchanging gases.
b. Insert new valve body assembly
(if applicable).
c. Attach 400 Series fascia. The protruding
“Keys” affixed to the fascia must match the
“Keyhole Slots” in the conversion guard.
It may be necessary to adjust the valve
bodies inward or outward for optimum fascia
fit.
Matching of “Key” and “Slot” recognize
importance of matching gas services. Do
not rely on pipe decals- confirm outflow!
When ordering multiple service Modernization Kits a
determination of the distance between gas service is
important.
The center-to-center measurement represents the
distance between vertical, imaginary line extending
through the center of the poppet or gas opening.
The distance between gas service is often referred to as
a “Blank.” The center-to-center measurement between
oxygen and vacuum, for example, on an outlet with no
“BLANKS” is 1-13/16”. Multiple outlets with one “BLANK”
between gas services have a 3-5/8” distance. Outlets
having a 5-7/16” center-to-center measurement would
have two “BLANKS” between gas service.
NOTE: State gas service reading left to right as you look
at the face plate. In the photo above, the sequence for
ordering purposes is Oxygen-B-B-Air-B-B-Vac (B=Blank).
For ease of Identification, Modernization Kits are
grouped by single or multiple gas service and with or
without valve body assembly.

The performance and operation of the earlier
series of Nellcor Puritan BennettTM (now
Beacon Medical) outlets can be improved by
installing a Series B Upgrade Kit. Nellcor
Puritan-Bennett outlets are identified by design
configurations applicable to each of the three
outlet series; Litharge, Series 73 and Series A.
The complete upgrade kit consists of three
component assemblies: 1) a gas service
specific outlet valve, 2) a coverplate, and
standoff for either 3-1/4” or 5” centerline space
outlets and 3) a connector for either litharge,
Series 73, or series A outlets.
An upgrade program begins with an inventory of
the outlet series to be upgraded. The illustration
below will aid in identifying the outlet series for
ordering the correct upgrade kit. Outlets are best
identified by the design of the outlet block.
Removal of the coverplate may be necessary to
be certain the correct connector is ordered.
Outlet Identification and Upgrade Components
Update Kits, Item #1, on the following page are used with all outlet series types. Connectors, Items
# 2, #3, and #4 are used with specific series types. Coverplates and standoffs, Items #5 through #8
are also used with specific series types. Figure 1 below shows key identification components of three
outlet series types while Figure 2 shows the appropriate upgrade components.
