Key lock button Battery meter Main channel indicator Scan icon Roger beep indicator CTCSS sub-channel indicator VOX indicator 1 Installing the NiMH battery pack / 4XAAA alkaline battery Charge the NiMH battery pack at least 14 hour, the battery will be fully charged. 1. With the back of the radio facing you, lift the battery latch (on the bottom of the battery cover) up to release the battery cover and remove the cover. 2. Remove the battery pack from the clear plastic bag. Do not disassemble or unwrap the battery pack. 3. Insert the NiMH battery pack so the metal contacts on the side of the battery are facing outward from the radio to connect with the contacts on the battery door. OR insert the 4XAAA alkaline batteries according to the polarity of the battery compartment. 4. Reposition the battery cover and press down to secure. Turning Your Radio On And Off To turn on, press and hold “PWR” button. Press and hold “PWR” button until the display blank to turn off the radio. The Battery Meter The battery meter located in the display indicates how much battery power you have remaining. When the battery meter has one segment left, the radio chirps after releasing “PTT” and every 10 minutes. Please replace a new battery or recharge the battery pack. TALKING AND LISTENING Read this manual carefully before use. For less sound distortion and clear interface radios should be held 5 to 7 centimeters away from your mouth. The open range distance of your radio is 3 miles depends on terrain and weather conditions. Your radio has 8 channels. All radios must be set to the same channel and interference eliminator code (CTCSS) in order to communicate. • For maximum clarity, hold radios 5 to 7 centimeters from mouth. • Press and hold “PTT” and speak into the microphone. LED indicator light glows continuously when transmitting. • To receive messages, release “PTT”. Volume When power up, the current volume is the volume value you set last time. Press “+” or “-” button to adjust your volume. The maximum volume is 16. 2 Monitor Pressing and holding “MON” button allows you to monitor your channel for activity. LED The Radio have LED button. You can press this button to turn on LED for 5 Seconds.. Select Channel • Press “MENU” button. The channel number will begin to flash. • Use “+” or “-“ button to change channel. • Press “PTT” button to set new channel. It helps to extend battery life by preventing accidental transmission. Keypad Lock 3 The keypad lock disables the “MENU”, “+” and “-” buttons as well as scan function, but allows you to use the “MON” button to monitor the channel. Press and hold the “MENU” button for three seconds to lock or unlock the keypad. When the radio is locked icon will show in the display. Scan By scanning, you can monitor channels and codes for transmissions and lock in on the one that interests you. More importantly, you can find someone in your group who has accidentally changed channels and is talking during your scan. • To start scanning, briefly press and release the “MON” button. • If you activate scan while your code is set to 0, then the radio will check for any activity on each channel, regardless of the code in use on that channel. • If you activate scan while the code is set on 1 to 38, the radio will check for any activity on each channel, except code 0 in use on that channel. • When activity is detected, the radio will stop scanning and you will hear the transmissions. The radio will show the corresponding channel and code. • Press “PTT” button within 5 seconds if you want to respond. • The radio will resume scanning after 5 seconds of inactivity on the channel. • To stop scanning, briefly press and release “MON” button. Scan Advance (Skip channels) If scan stops on a channel that you don’t want to listen to, briefly press “+” or “-“ button to resume scanning for the next active channel. Scan Delete (Temporarily Remove channels) If scan continuously stops on an undesired channel, press and hold ”+” or “-“ button for least 3 seconds, then release. This will temporarily remove the undesired channel from the scan list. To restore the channel to the scan list, turn the radio off and then on. You cannot remove your home channel from the scan list (your home channel is the channel your radio was set to when you activated scan). Hands Free Use (VOX) The radio is equipped with an adjustable Voice Operated Transmitter mode, which allows you to transmit hands free without pressing “PTT” button. VOX allows you to transmit "handsfree" by talking. Note: When using audio accessories with your radio, turn your radio off before you place the accessory on your head or in your ear. How To Use The VOX Feature • Turn off your radio. • Open the head set jet cover and insert the ear bud into the jack located left-hand side of the radio. • Switch on your radio. The "VOX" icon will appear in the display. • To transmit, speak into the accessory microphone. To receive, stop talking. • Pressing “PTT” button or removing audio accessory will disable VOX operation. How To Use The Baby Monitor Feature 4 • Turn off your radio. • Simultaneously hold down “PTT” button while turning on your radio. The "VOX" icon will appear on the button of the screen. • To transmit, speak into the radio microphone. To receive, stop talking. • Pressing “PTT “ for transmit will disable baby monitor operation. • When power up with baby monitor active, pressing “PTT “ for transmit will disable baby monitor operation. After that, you can press “PTT” button for a very short time to active baby monitor again. The “VOX” Icon will display again. Note: There is a short delay after you start talking, before the radio transmits. Note: You may need to set the call tone to “0” so that the radio will not ring if someone accidentally press the Call tone button. Setting VOX/Baby Monitor Sensitivity Levels • Press “MENU” until "VOX" and a flashing number appear. If baby monitor active. In code position display “I”, otherwise you will select VOX or microphone sensitivity level with a “E” display. • Select sensitivity level of 1, 2 or 3 by using “+” or “-“. 1 - If you speak loudly, or are in a noisy environment. 2 - Suitable for most applications. 3 - If you speak softly, or are in a quiet environment. Note: The VOX sensitivity and Baby Monitor sensitivity are set independently. ALERTS Channel Busy Indicator The red LED will flash twice per second to indicate that the channel is in use. Call Tone Press “CALL” button to transmit your call tone, alerting users on the same channel and code that you are about to talk. Your radio has 10 call tones to choose from. To Set the Call Tone • With the radio on, press “MENU” button until "C" appears in the display. • Current call tone setting will begin to flash. • Press “+” or “-” to change and hear call tones while the setting number is flashing. (0 disables the call tone) • Press “PTT” to set new call tone. Roger Beep (Talk Confirmation Tone) When you turn on this feature, your two-way radio transmits a tone when you finish transmitting just like saying 'Roger' or 'Over'. • To enable or disable the roger beep function simultaneously, press and hold “+” button while turning your radio on. (Roger beep icon will be displayed on top of the screen if it is active.) • When you release the “PTT” button you will hear the roger beep. Stop Watch 5 The Radio have a additional function Stop watch. (for reference only) To Start the stop watch • With the radio on, press “MENU” button until "0" “00” appears in the display. • Press.”+” and stop watch will start running. • When stop watch is running, pressing “+” will change it to pause state, and displays the time that has passed, but the stop watch doesn’t stop working, it still runs in the background. In pause state, if “+” is pressed again, the stop watch will go on running based on the time passed from the start of the stop watch, rather than the time that displays in the pause state. Only in pause state and pressing “-‘ will reset the stop watch. • Press “PTT”, “CALL”, “Monitor”, “MENU” button to quit stop watch. • in stop watch running or pause state, the radio do not check VOX/baby monitor. Auto power off The Radio has an additional function auto power off. • Press “Menu” button until display “P” in LCD channel position. • Press “+” or “-“, you can select 0, 30, 60 or 90 minutes. (0 to disable). When it is time out, the radio will turn off automatically. • Pressing any button or when radio received a valid signal, the auto power off timer will reset to setting value.
