Auto Answer Button
For automatically activating the built-in speakerphone whenever a call comes in. Your system manager can
tell you whether you have this feature.
Data Jack
For connecting a device, such as a modem, to your telephone. This jack is labeled "DATA".
Flash Button
For Conference calls and answering call waiting.
To Answer a Call Waiting Tone:
1. Press <Flash>. You will hear three short bursts of tone followed by a steady dial tone. Your present call
is now on hold.
2. Dial the Hold code #1. You are now connected to the waiting call.
To Make a Conference Call:
1. Dial the first number you wish to call.
2. To add another party press <Flash>. You will hear three short bursts of tone followed by a steady dial
tone. The present call is now on hold
3. Dial the number of the third party. You can discuss the call privately with the third party at this time.
(If the line is busy or there is no answer, press <Flash> twice to return to the original party).
4. Press <Flash>. All parties are now connected.
To drop the last party added to a conference call:
 Press <Flash>. You remain connected to the original party.
To Transfer a Call to Another Number:
1. Press <Flash>. You will hear three short bursts of tone followed by a steady dial tone. The present call
is now on hold.
2. Dial the number to which the call is to be transferred. You will hear the phone ringing on the other line.
3. Remain on the line and announce the call. (If the line is busy or there is no answer, press <Flash> twice
to return to the call on hold.)
4. Hang up. The transfer is complete.
Hold Button
For placing a call on hold.
To put a call on hold:
1. Press <Hold>. The red light next to <Hold> goes on. The call is put on hold.
To return to the call on hold:
1. Press <Hold> or, if you have hung up the handset, pick the handset up from the cradle. The red light
next to <Hold> goes off. You are reconnected to the call.
To return to the call on hold with speaker phone:
1. Press <Spkr>. The red light next to <Spkr> goes on. The red light next to the Pause button goes off. You
are reconnected to the call.
To put the first call on hold and place a second call:
1. Press <Flash>. You will hear three short bursts of tone followed by a steady dial tone
2. Dial the Hold code #1. The first call is now on hold
3. Dial the second call.
To put the second call on hold and return to the first call:
1. Press <Flash>. You will hear three short bursts of tone followed by a steady dial tone
2. Dial the Hold code #1. The second call is now on hold and the first call is reconnected.
Hold Light
A red light that goes on to remind you that you have a call on hold.
Message Light
A red light that flashes when a message has been left for you.
Mute Button
Allows you to turn off the microphone in the handset or the speakerphone so that the other person on the line
can not hear what you are saying.
Muting a Call:
1. Press the Mute button to put the call on mute. The Mute Light will go on.
2. To take the call of mute press the Mute button again.
Pause Button
For inserting a 0.5-second pause/delay into a phone number stored on a programmable dialing button or into
a dialing access code in the Auto-Pause feature of Redial.
Programmable Dialing Buttons
The 12 buttons on which you can program frequently dialed phone numbers or emergency numbers.
To program a programmable dialing button:
 The tone to remind you that you are in Program Mode is interrupted each time you press a dial pad key,
the Pause button or <Flash>. You will hear a rapid error tone if you try to enter more than 20 elements.
 You can use the Pause button to program a 0.5-second pause between a dialing access number, such as
9, and the phone number, and for certain banking and long-distance services. For example, to put a
pause between the dialing access number, 9, and the phone number, press the Pause button, then the

number. Several depressions of the Pause button will produce a multiple of a 0.5-second pause. (Three
depressions of the Pause button would equal 1.5 seconds.)
Press the Program button to enter Program Mode. You hear a low continuous tone while you are in Program Mode.
Press the programmable dialing button on which you want to store the number. The tone is briefly interrupted twice.
Dial the number you want to store on the button. You can use up to 20 elements (digits and characters,
including Pause and Flash).
To program another programmable dialing button, repeat Steps 2 and 3.
Press the Program button when you are ready to exit Program Mode.
To place a call using programmable dialing:
1. Pick up the handset or press <Spkr>.
2. When you hear dial tone, press the appropriate programmable dialing button. The number programmed
on that button is automatically dialed.
To clear a stored number:
1. Press the Program button.
2. Press the button to be cleared, then press it again.
3. Press the Program button or lift the handset.
Redial Button
For redialing the last number that you dialed using the dial pad.
To automatically redial the last number dialed:
1. Pick up the handset or press <Spkr>. You will hear a dial tone.
2. Press <Redial>. The number is automatically redialed.
Ringer Volume Control
A 3-position switch to control the volume of the ringer. Slide it up for a louder ring, down for a quieter ring.
 Tone Selector (Fast or Slow): For selecting one of two tone ringer modulation rates (fast or slow).
 Tone Selector (High or Low): For selecting one of two tone ringer frequencies (high or low).
To select a personalized ringing pattern:
 The tone selector labeled HI-LO will help you select one of the two tone ringer frequencies.
Slide the tone selector to HI for a higher frequency. Slide the tone selector to LO for a lower frequency.
 The tone selector labeled FAST-SLOW will help you select one of the two tone ringer modulation rates.
Slide the tone selector to FAST for a faster modulation rate. Slide the tone selector to SLOW for a slower modulation rate.
 The 3-position switch on the side of your telephone allows you to control the volume for the tone ringer.
Slide it up (away from you) for a louder ring. Slide it down (toward you) for a quieter ring.
Speaker Button
For using the speakerphone.
 To answer a call using the speakerphone: When you hear the telephone ring, press <Spkr>. The red
light next to <Spkr> goes on.
 To place a call using the speakerphone:
1. Press <Spkr> while on-hook. You will hear the dial tone and The red light next to <Spkr> goes on.
2. Dial the desired number.
 To end a call when using the speakerphone: Press <Spkr>. The red light next to <Spkr> goes off.
Speaker Volume Control
For raising or lowering the volume of the built-in speakerphone.
