MTS INTRODUCES EXPLOSION PROOF SENSOR
HOUSING FOR CLASS I, DIVISION I APPLICATIONS
CARY, N.C. (October 21, 2003) — Expanding its position sensor offering for
hazardous locations, MTS Sensors introduced the TempoGuard II explosion-proof, high
pressure housing (HPH) for Class I, Division I, Groups A, B, C and D areas. Sold as an
integrated, IP68 sealed, stainless steel sensor package, the TempoGuard II prevents ignition
of flammable gasses and vapors by containing possible combustion within the sealed
housing. The sensor provides reliable, accurate magnetostrictive position sensing in a safe
package.
“The TempoGuard II is manufactured using our standard sensor cartridge enclosed in a
high pressure housing,” said Temposonics Product Manager, David Edeal. “Using this
approach we are able to meet stringent qualifications for Class I, Div 1 approvals for UL,
cUL and the new European ATEX standards and provide waterproof sensing in the same
package.”

TempoGuard II provides hazardous environment sensing for applications such as position
feedback in power generation and petrochemical plants as well as mining and seismic
measurements. Because of its high corrosion resistance and sealed design, the stainless steel
housing also makes this sensor an excellent product for marine applications. The
TempoGuard II construction is available on both the R and S (ServoSensor) series. The
sensor provides analog,synchronous serial interface (SSI), DeviceNet, CANbus, Profibus and
ServoSensor® position controller outputs. Stroke lengths are available up to 7500mm
(300″).
