OUR COMPANY
Incorporated in 2008, Avex CCTV Pte Ltd (Avex) is a Singapore contract manufacturing company that specializes
in the design and manufacture of high quality Stainless Steel ATEX certified Camera Stations & Housings for use in
Hazardous Areas at Marine, Offshore, Oil & Gas and Industrial locations. It is the only known company in
Singapore which has obtained ATEX certification for its explosion proof range of CCTV Camera Stations &
Housings.
In keeping with today’s globalized market and to bring to the customer quality products at cost effective and
competitive pricing, Avex employs modern business strategies and fosters strategic partnerships and OEM
agreements with other ATEX certified CCTV manufacturing plants. Avex utilizes this readily available global pool of
resources by outsourcing the fabricating of hardware components, according to our design, and some assembly
work. All R&D, design, quality control and final testing are done by our team of skilled engineers in Singapore
before being certified, packed and shipped to customers worldwide.
Avex CCTV Pte Ltd has been awarded Quality Assurance Notification by Sira Certification UK, the leading Notified
Body for Ex Product Certification in UK, under the requirements of ATEX Directive 94/9/EC for manufacturers of
Equipment or Protective Systems for use in Potentially Explosive atmospheres. This certification along with our
ISO9001:2008 certification from Guardian Independent Certification UK attest that we have a Quality Management
System in place which complies with the Directive for manufacturers of products for use in potentially explosive
atmospheres. Our quality processes are continuously improved through regular internal and external audits. Our
products are manufactured and certified to the ATEX requirements for equipment using the Flameproof (EEx d &
Ex d) protection principles.

UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT GRADES OF STAINLESS STEEL AND THEIR USAGE
Stainless steels are engineering materials with good corrosion resistance, strength and fabrication
characteristics. They can readily meet a wide range of design criteria such as load, cost-saving benefits of a
maintenance-free product and long life expectancy.
Understanding the basics of stainless steel will be useful in determining and proposing the right grade for the
right purpose/location as well as providing a cost effective solution to end users.
Understanding Corrosion Resistance
Chromium is the alloying element that imparts to stainless steels their corrosion resistance qualities by
combining with oxygen to form a thin, invisible chromium oxide protective film on the surface. Because the
passive film is such an important factor, there are precautions which must be observed in designing stainless
steel equipment, in manufacturing the equipment, and in operation and use of the equipment, to avoid
destroying or disturbing the film.
In the event that the protective (passive) film is disturbed or even destroyed, it will, in the presence of oxygen
in the environment, reform and continue to give maximum protection. The protective film is stable and
protective in normal atmospheric or mild aqueous environments, but can be improved by higher chromium,
and by molybdenum, nickel, and other alloying elements. Chromium improves film stability; molybdenum and
chromium increase resistance to chloride penetration; and nickel improves film resistance in some acid
environments.
Grades of Stainless Steel
There are many grades of stainless steel with the most common being 304 & 316. We offer all our stainless
steel models in both 304 and 316 grades with electro-polished finish. In addition, all models can be supplied
with additional corrosive painting for extra protection against the corrosive elements. In many cases,
depending on the environment that the cameras are located, 304 grade is more than sufficient for prevention
of corrosion. 316 stainless steel grade generally costs 25% - 35% more than 304, and is less commercially
available.
Type 304 - is often referred to as "18-8" (18% chromium, 8% nickel) with the basic stainless alloy most
commonly utilized for wire cloth weaving. It withstands outdoor exposure without rusting and resists oxidation
at an elevated temperature up to 1400 Degrees Fahrenheit. Type 304 L is very similar to T-304, the difference
being the reduced carbon content for better weaving and secondary welding characteristics.
Type 316 - Stabilized by the addition of 2% molydbenum, T-316 is an "18-8" alloy. It has better resistance to
pitting corrosion than the other chromium-nickel stainless steels where brines, sulphur-bearing water or
halogen salts, such as chlorides are present. A valuable property of T-316 is high creep strength at elevated
temperatures. Other mechanical properties and fabricating characteristics are similar to T-304. Type 316 L is
very similar to T-316, the difference being the reduced carbon content for wire cloth weaving and secondary
welding characteristics.
What is Electro-polishing
Electro-polishing is an electrochemical removal process that selectively removes a thin layer of metal,
including surface flaws and imbedded impurities. The smoothest polished finishes are buffed after mechanical
polishing to produce a mirror-like appearance.

Stainless Steel Area of use – In general SS316 can be used for all areas, but in many areas it is not
necessary to be used as the corrosion resistance properties of SS304 (even more so with additional
corrosion painting) are more than sufficient to withstand the corrosive elements present and will
present significant cost savings.
