WHAT TO DO AND WHAT NOT TO DO:
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – WHAT ANSWER SHEETS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO NERIC?
1) EVERY PRE-PRINTED ANSWER SHEET MUST BE RETURNED TO NERIC (even if students have a
REASON NOT TESTED). Note: Grades K and 1-2 have 1 answer sheet; Grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-9,
and 9-12 have 3 answer sheets.
2) NEW STUDENTS WITHOUT A PRE-PRINTED ANSWER SHEET: YOU MUST CONTACT NERIC at
Testing@NERIC.org TO OBTAIN PRE-PRINTED ANSWER SHEETS. NO EXTRA SHEETS ARE
PROVIDED.
Example: District A received 9 answer sheets for 3 students. They also have two new
students. The number of answer sheets that should be returned to NERIC are as
follows:
9 sheets (page 1, page 3, and page 5) – doesn’t matter if they were
absent/refused)
6 sheets for the two new students – doesn’t matter if they didn’t take the
test.
15 total sheets returned (all sheets)
ANSWER SHEETS – DO’s AND DON’Ts
3) DO NOT write in, place labels on, or make any marks in the area at the top of the answer
sheet where NERIC has preprinted the District Number, Student ID, CD, School Number, Level
and Form.
ANSWER SHEETS – DO’s AND DON’Ts (cont.)
4) The Group Code is not used by NERIC, please leave blank.
5) A Skip Bubble has been added to the grid where the Speaking score points are recorded on
the answer sheet.
6) For those students who have IEP/504 test accommodations, the test administrator should
bubble in all the testing accommodations used by the student at the time of the test.
7) PRINT Scorers’ Names:
a. Please refer to the NYSESLAT School Administrators Manual for
instructions.
8) Scorers’ Code Letters:
a. Please refer to the NYSESLAT School Administrators Manual for
instructions.
9) REASON NOT TESTED – every student needs to have all sheets returned to NERIC. If a preprinted answer sheet is totally blank, fill in the REASON NOT TESTED.
10) The Scoring Model Code on Page 6 of the answer sheet MUST be bubbled.
DO NOT LEAVE BLANK. Note: There is a new Scoring Model Code; #6
Scored by a private contractor (not a BOCES).
