Conception of NorthLight School (NLS)
NLS was established in March 2006 to
better cater to students who could benefit
from a more customised and vocational
education. This was part of a broader
effort to identify and assist students who
were at risk of leaving the education
system prematurely.

NLS.

Success Stories
Former NorthLight student
scores place in polytechnic
Mr Paul Tan, a student in NLS pioneer
batch who went on to the Institute of
Technical Education (ITE) to study
electrical engineering, has achieved a
perfect grade point average of 4. That has
won the 22-year-old a place in Republic
Polytechnic
to
study
aerospace
engineering.

Specialised School for Normal (Technical)
Rationale of Starting of SSNT
 25.7% of our N(T) students drop out, or do not progress to ITE
 20.7% do not complete ITE successfully
 Successes of NLS and APS:
• NLS systemic drop out rate is only 1.2% , more than 70%
graduated with an ITE Skills Certificate (ISC)
 A similar whole-school approach

education.

Enhanced Nitec Foundation Programme (e-NFP)
•To better prepare academically weaker
Normal (Technical) students for successful
completion of NITEC courses, MOE will
pilot the e-NFP in 2014.
