Judge Thomas C, Wicker, Jr. (ret)
I graduated from Tulane in Feb 1944 with a BBA degree, was commissioned an
ensign on the same day and received orders to report aboard the USS LACKAWANNA
(AO40) at about the same time. While aboard the LACKAWANNA, my ship
participated in the Hollandia campaign, Saipan, Guam, Battle of the Philippine Sea,
invasion of the Philippines, Okinawa and was among the first ships to enter Tokyo Bay
after the surrender by Japan.
After returning home and inactive duty in the Navy, I enter the Tulane Law
School in September 1946 and graduated in June 1949.
One of my early jobs as a young lawyer was becoming an Asst. US Attorney in New
Orleans where I served for about 4 years before entering private practice.
In 1972, I was elected District Judge for the 24th Judicial District, State O Louisiana and
in 1985, I was elected to the Court of Appeal, 5th Circuit, State Of Louisiana where I
served until I retired on August 1, 1998.
Since retirement, I have acted as a judge-ad-hoc on several cases each year on the
Louisiana 5th Circuit and the Louisiana Supreme Court. I have been honored by serving
as the President of the Tulane Alumni Association in 1970-1971, President of the Sugar
Bowl 1976-1977, President of the New Orleans Rotary Club 1972-73, acted as one of the
founders of the Green Wave Club in 1967 and as President of the Green Wave Club
1973-74 and received Tulane’s 50 year achievement award for the class of 1949.
I am married to wife (Jane), have 2 children, 2 step-children, 6 grandchildren and
4 step-grandchildren.
