Operation Types of AOV
The AOV(Air Motor Operating Valve Actuator)is a system driven by air motor that is powered by
pressure of air or nitrogen gas. It has speed reducers, such as gears, in the middle to operate
various valves and dampers on the shop floor automatically by controlling torques. Air Motor has
better characteristics against noise or vibration from outside compared to the same power of
electric motor type because it is smaller in size, easier to get high speed, has no danger of
explosion by sparks, and has no electronic signal system inside.
Furthermore, it is economical because installation cost is lower than the electric motor type when
it is installed in the conventional working plant. There is a strong point that it is possible to
automate the operation of conventional working valves. The automation of conventional manual
valves is easy and economical because it only requires a supply of compressed air. And AOV
could be installed on all valves no matter what kind of valve it is.
Characteristics of the Product
ⶹ The product was designed to adopt the self-locking method, to maintain the valve opening
position even under the changes of valve load. (It is most suitable to the lines where changes
of vibration or pressure are frequent.)
ⶹ It has dual mode in opening valves; Automatic Mode and Manual Mode. It is capable of shifting
modes with the clutch and lever. The valves can be opened or shut by the selection switch in
the main body or control room under the automatic mode. On the other hand, valves can be
operated by the manual handle under the manual mode.
ⶹ The inner main power transmission gears run in oil bath condition, making its high durability
and anti-abrasion.
ⶹ It was designed to adopt the perfect built-in open/close torque limit & geared limit system to
have a double safety system against problems caused by poor valve parts or valve overtightening.
ⶹ The teeth-face of the power transmission gears were finished with fine abrasion and special
heat treatment to have high durability, less noise, and higher transmission efficiency.
ⶹ Ball bearings and oil seals are installed on top and under the stem to have sealing abilities,
and to decrease the operation power of the manual handle to open and shut the valves.
ⶹ The valve opening position will be shown continuously by adopting the % Continuous Type
method. This makes it visually stable.

ⴗ The open and close status of valve and open
placement can be verified perfectly even while
driving and designed to reduce the error of
open and close operation by increasing the
visual effect by adopting the rotary indicator.
ⴘ The auto and manual mode can beswitched using
lever and clutch and it is designed to open
and close the valve by operating the wheel in
manual mode and using selecting switch in aut
omode.
ⴙ Reduced the number of possible malfunctioning
components and secured the easy maintenance
by integrating the switches such as Logic valve,
Limit Switch, Torque Switch etc.
ⴚ Secured the safety from the penetration of
moisture and external shock with the metal
material for the Selector Switch.
ⴛ Since important power transmitting gear and
inner components are operated in oil bath
condition, the durability is guaranteed for long
term operation and improved the valve safety by
adopting the Self-Locking type of design.
ⴜ The sealing function was increased remarkably
by using the o-rings and quad-rings for the
sealing of main body and the cover bolt was
designed as non-penetration type which meets
the explosion protection standard.
ⴝ Secured the smooth operation of power train by
designing the vane type air motor which
secured the safety of Torque and RPM.
ⴞ Standardized the signal air supply connection
as NPT 1/4".
ⴟ The perfect operation of open, close, dry
contact or 4~20mA (attained KOSHA 'Exd IIC
T4')

AOV operation type
1. Type A operation (at site valve operation type) AOV: Open or close the valve using OPEN/
STOP/ CLOSE selecting switch which is on AOV itself, installed on the valve at site. This is the
most universal valve automation type which can stop during operation and shows the present
opening status of valve in % indication.

2. Type B operation (remote air switch box operating method) AOV: The open and close of valve can be
controlled from the individual air switch box which is located certain distance (max 30~40m) from valve
and the open and close status of valve can be monitored by getting the feed-back signal if needed. This
method is very useful when adopting on the valves that is difficult to approach such as the valves on high
place, Stack, top valve of storing tank, underground piping valve and the valves that is difficult to approach
when fire etc and they are classified in 3 types as follows.
B1 : Open and close the valve from the switch (switch box) located certain distance from valve and no
feed-back type.
B2 : Open and close the valve by selecting the switch box located certain distance from valve or valve
at site and receives the air feed back which can show the open and close status of valve.
B3 : Watching the status of valve from certain distance from valve (within 5m), this is the type to open and
close the valve by semi-auto operation and changing the revolving direction of air motor by hand
valve and since there is no torque switch, auto stop is not available and manual operation is required.

3. Type C operation (Control room remote operation type) AOV: The open and close of valve can be
operated at site or control room and get the dry contact from position transmitter (built in limit switch)
and solenoid valve will be installed on main body or control panel for open and close operation. It
can be classified by the operation characteristic as follows.
C1 : This is the operation which outputs the dry contact by the attachment of position transmitter
(PT-00) on AOV and using the control panel (solenoid attached) which is located certain
distance from AOV main body.
C2 : Outputting the dry contact by the attachment of solenoid valve and position transmitter (PT-00)
on AOV, open and close operation on AOV are available and external operation also is
available when converts to remote mode.

4. Type D operation (control room open transmission type) AOV: Basically this is same as type C
but the difference is using the position transmitter (built in limit switch, R/I converter,
potentiometer) which is available for 4~20mA and output of dry contact.
D1 : Operate the valve by attaching the Solenoid valve on control panel and displays the open
status on it.
D2 : It is available to operate 4~20mA dry contact output and open, close operation on AOV,
and external operation also is available when converts to remote mode.
