… from the main train station:
Students living in the dorms Vettersstraße 52/54,
66/64 or 70/72:
1) Tram Nr. 4 (Direction Hutholz)  bus stop

STUDENTENWERK
(Step 1 in the Check List)
The Studentenwerk runs the students’ residence.
In the office of their dorm department at Thüringer
Weg 3, ground floor (right hand side), you can sign
your lease contract for accommodation and pay
your deposit.
From Zentralhaltestelle (Central Interchange Point):
Bus 51 (Direction Reichenhain/ Altchemnitz)  bus
stop TU Campus.

RESIDENTS´ REGISTRATION OFFICE and FOREIGNERS’ OFFICE “Am Wall”
(Bürgerhaus “Am Wall”: Meldebehörde (2nd floor) and Ausländerbehörde (3rd floor) - Step 3 in the Check List)
To get there from Campus Reichenhainer Straße:
1) Bus 51 (Direction Zeissigwald/Yorkgebiet)  bus
stop Roter Turm
2) Go along the street till the sign “Am Wall” (left
hand side)

Registration Office
2nd floor - the Residets’ Registration Office (Meldebehörde)
Press the button to get a ticket and wait till your
number appears on one of the screens in the hall.
Be prepared to answer questions about:
- your previous stay(s) in Germany,
- your marital status,
- your city of residence in your home country.
Please, check all the data!

RESIDENTS´ REGISTRATION OFFICE “Sachsen Allee”
How to get there:
1) Bus 51 (Direction Zeissigwald/Yorkgebiet)  bus stop ”Thomas Mann Platz / Sachsen Allee”
2) Cross the street and follow the path toward the shopping Mall “Sachsen Allee”

HEALTH INSURANCE
(e.g. Techniker Krankenkasse as one example of the various German health insurances, Step 6 in CHECK LIST)
The address is „Am Rathaus 2“ - How to get there from
Zentralhaltestelle (Central Interchange Point):
1) Cross the street, as shown on the picture, and take
the first turn to the right to the street „Am Rathaus“.

2) Go down the street and you will see the sign of Techniker
Krankenkasse on your left hand side

BANK
(e.g. Deutsche Bank as one example of the various German Banks, Step 4 in CHECK LIST)
The address is Falkeplatz 2 - How to get there from
the city center:
1) Walk the same direction as to Techniker
Krankenkasse, but go straight down the street
Bahnhofstraße. You will then see the large building.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
SEMESTER FEE
Can be paid:
 by bank transfer from your home country (best option if done 3 weeks prior to arrival in Chemnitz)
 using a German debit card at the Student Service (if you do not have an own debit card maybe you
can ask your friends if they could help you)
 by bank transfer from a German bank account (Note: if your German bank account is still not
activated, you might ask a friend for help). Bank transfers might take several days.
 Directly at a shelter in Sparkasse (another German bank). Such transactions cost 5 € and you need:
o a special form (if you have not received it with your admission letter, please ask at the
Student Service)
o your passport
o the confirmation sheet you received at the Residents’ Registration
INTERNET/WiFi
You get internet in the dorm around 1-3 days after you have been officially enrolled. First, you will get your
login and password, then you can register online for internet in the dorm.
