Day 1 – Monday 30th March 2015
Depart outer car park Gorey Community School 2.30 AM
Sunday night/Monday morning (very early start)
Arrive Dublin Airport Terminal 1 for check-in at 04.25 on your scheduled flight FR9432. Flight departs at
06.25 to arrive Rome Ciampino Airport at 10.30.
On arrival to the airport meet your coach at coach parking and transfer to Rome city centre.
A reservation has been made for your group to enter the Vatican Museums at 14.30. This is the
largest museum complex in the world with over 1400 rooms. You will pass through the many rooms and
galleries before reaching the magnificent ‘Sistine Chapel’ where you can view the world famous ceiling
painted by Michelangelo.

General Entrance ticket WITHOUT GUIDE: €2 per person reservation fee has been paid in advance on your invoice. On arrival
then the entrance fee needs to be paid of €5.50 per student, 1 free teacher per 10 paying students. Headsets will be provided so
that you can speak to your group as you move through the museums and conduct a self-guided tour if you so wish. Please present
the Italian School letter.
Afterwards you may visit St Peter’s Basilica, where Peter, the apostle who is considered the first pope –
was crucified and buried. You also have the option of climbing the stairs to the top of the dome where you
can enjoy a panoramic view of the city.
Rate: Entrance to the Basilica is free. To climb the dome is €3 per person with the Italian school letter. Payment is made on arrival.
This special price is only available to school groups going up by the stairs. Please ensure to present school letter. You may also
take the lift however rate is €7 per person, no special rate for school groups. The dome closes at 17.00. The basilica closes at
18.30.

Following a continental breakfast served in your hotel and check-out, depart to Montecatini. Journey time is

Day 3 – Wednesday 1st April 2015
Following a continental breakfast served in your hotel, depart by coach at 08.30 to Florence city centre. a
reservation has been made for your group to visit the Bargello Museum. This museum houses a
remarkable collection of Renaissance sculpture and works of art including the Donatella Room which

In the afternoon you will continue to the Accademia Gallery, which houses the 16-foot high marble statue
of David by Michelangelo. Undoubtedly the world's most famous sculpture, the museum also houses five
other Michelangelo sculptures - the four unfinished Prisoners and St. Matthew - and a collection of Gothic
and Renaissance paintings that were once in the Medici collections.

Day 4 – Thursday 2nd April 2015
Following a continental breakfast served in your hotel, you will be met by your coach at 08.30 and depart
for Florence city centre. A reservation has been made for your group to visit the Uffizi Gallery this morning.
This is one of the most important museums in the world for Italian art and, in particular, art of the
Renaissance. All of the famous names from Italy's rich artistic heritage, including Leonardo da Vinci, Giotto,
Michelangelo, Botticelli, Piero della Francesca, Caravaggio, and Raphael, are represented at the Uffizi.

Day 5 – Friday 3rd April 2015
Following a continental breakfast served in your hotel, you will be met by your coach at 08.30 to take you to
the centre of Florence for your full day of sightseeing.
A reservation has been made for your group to visit the Pitti Palace, formerly the residence of the granddukes of Tuscany, and later of the King of Italy, it now houses several important collections of paintings and
sculpture, works of art, porcelain and a costume gallery. Reservations are as follows:

At 15.30 a reservation has been made for your group to visit the Santa Maria del Carmine church where
the Brancacci Chapel is located at the end of the right transept and which houses a masterpiece of
Renaissance painting by Masaccio. The fresco series illustrates one of his great innovations, the use of
light to define the human body and its draperies. In these frescoes, rather than bathing his scenes in flat
uniform light, he painted them as if they were illuminated from a single source of light (the actual chapel
window), thus creating a play of light and shadow that gave them a natural, realistic quality unknown in the
art of his day. Of these six fresco scenes, Tribute Money and the Expulsion from Paradise are considered
his masterpieces. Fire almost destroyed the church in the 18th century; miraculously, the Brancacci Chapel

Following a continental breakfast served in your hotel and check-out, depart hotel at 09.00 to Bologna
airport. En route you may like to stop off at the Centro Meridiana, a shopping centre located close to
Bologna airport. Free time for some shopping and lunch. Journey time from Montecatini to shopping centre
is approx 1½hrs. Journey time from shopping centre to airport is approx 10 mins.
