A. Substitutions: Changes in products, materials, equipment, and methods of construction required by the Contract
Documents proposed by the Contractor after award of the Contract are considered to be requests for substitutions.
1.0 SUBMITTALS
1.1 STEEL FRAMING FOR WALLS AND PARTITIONS
A. Shop drawings showing location of each item, dimensioned plans and elevations, large-scale details, attachment
devices, and other components.
A. General: Provide steel framing members complying with the following requirements:
SECTION 01010 - SUMMARY OF WORK
1.0 SUBMITTALS
1. Protective Coating: ASTM A 653, G 40 hot-dip galvanized coating.
A. The Project consists of interior alteration to:

A. Substitution Request Submittal: The Architect or Owner will consider requests for substitution if received within 15 days
after commencement of the Work. Requests received more than 15 days after commencement of the Work may be
considered or rejected at the discretion of the Architect.

SECTION 01026 - UNIT PRICES
A. Unit price is an amount proposed by bidders, stated on the Bid Form, as a price per unit of measurement for materials
or services added to or deducted from the Contract Sum by appropriate modification, if the estimated quantities of Work
required by the Contract Documents are increased or decreased.
SECTION 01027 - APPLICATIONS FOR PAYMENT
1. Submit 3 copies of each request for substitution for consideration. Submit requests in the form and according to
procedures required for change-order proposals.
2. Identify the product or the fabrication or installation method to be replaced in each request. Include related
Specification Section and Drawing numbers.
3. Provide complete documentation showing compliance with the requirements for substitutions.
4. Architect's Action: If necessary, the Architect will request additional information or documentation for evaluation
within one week of receipt of a request for substitution. The Architect will notify the Contractor of acceptance or
rejection of the substitution within 2 weeks of receipt of the request, or one week of receipt of additional information
or documentation, whichever is later. Acceptance will be in the form of a change order.
A. Payment-Application Forms: Use AIA Document G702 and Continuation Sheets G703 as the form for Applications for
Payment.
SECTION 01740 - WARRANTIES
SECTION 01030 - ALTERNATES (SEE BID FORM FOR ALTERNATES)
1.0 WARRANTY REQUIREMENTS
A. Definition: An alternate is an amount proposed by bidders and stated on the Bid Form for certain work defined in the
Bidding Requirements that may be added to or deducted from the Base Bid amount if the Owner decides to accept a
corresponding change in either the amount of construction to be completed, or in the products, materials, equipment,
systems, or installation methods described in the Contract Documents.
A. Related Damages and Losses: When correcting failed or damaged warranted construction, remove and replace
construction that has been damaged as a result of such failure or must be removed and replaced to provide access for
correction of warranted construction.
1. The cost or credit for each alternate is the net addition to or deduction from the Contract Sum to incorporate the
Alternate into the Work. No other adjustments are made to the Contract Sum.
SECTION 01035 - MODIFICATION PROCEDURES
1.0 MINOR CHANGES IN THE WORK
A. The Architect will issue supplemental instructions authorizing minor changes in the Work, not involving adjustment to
the Contract Sum or Contract Time, on AIA Form G710, Architect's Supplemental Instructions.
1.1 CHANGE ORDER PROPOSAL REQUESTS
A. Owner-Initiated Proposal Requests: The Architect will issue a detailed description of proposed changes in the Work
that will require adjustment to the Contract Sum or Contract Time. If necessary, the description will include supplemental
or revised Drawings and Specifications.
1. Proposal requests issued by the Architect are for information only. Do not consider them as an instruction either to
stop work in progress or to execute the proposed change.
2. Within 20 days of receipt of a proposal request, submit an estimate of cost necessary to execute the change to the
Architect for the Owner's review.
a. Include a list of quantities of products required and unit costs, with the total amount of purchases to be made.
Where requested, furnish survey data to substantiate quantities.
b. Indicate applicable taxes, delivery charges, equipment rental, and amounts of trade discounts.
c. Include a statement indicating the effect the proposed change in the Work will have on the Contract Time.
B. Contractor-Initiated Proposals: When latent or unforseen conditions require modifications to the Contract, the
Contractor may propose changes by submitting a request for a change to the Architect.
1. Include a statement outlining the reasons for the change and the effect of the change on the Work. Provide a
complete description of the proposed change. Indicate the effect of the proposed change on the Contract Sum and
Contract Time.
2. Include a list of quantities of products required and unit costs, with the total amount of purchases to be made.
Where requested, furnish survey data to substantiate quantities.
3. Indicate applicable taxes, delivery charges, equipment rental, and amounts of trade discounts.
4. Comply with requirements in Section "Product Substitutions" if the proposed change requires substitution of one
product or system for a product or system specified.
C. Proposal Request Form: Use AIA Document G709 for Change Order Proposal Requests.
1.2 CONSTRUCTION CHANGE DIRECTIVE
A. Construction Change Directive: When the Owner and the Contractor disagree on the terms of a Proposal Request, the
Architect may issue a Construction Change Directive on AIA Form G714. The Construction Change Directive instructs the
Contractor to proceed with a change in the Work, for subsequent inclusion in a Change Order.
B. Reinstatement of Warranty: When Work covered by a warranty has failed and been corrected by replacement or
rebuilding, reinstate the warranty by written endorsement. The reinstated warranty shall be equal to the original warranty
with an equitable adjustment for depreciation.
C. Replacement Cost: Upon determination that Work covered by a warranty has failed, replace or rebuild the Work to an
acceptable condition complying with requirements of the Contract Documents. The Contractor is responsible for the cost of
replacing or rebuilding defective Work regardless of whether the Owner has benefited from use of the Work through a
portion of its anticipated useful service life.
D. Owner's Recourse: Expressed warranties made to the Owner are in addition to implied warranties and shall not limit the
duties, obligations, rights, and remedies otherwise available under the law. Expressed warranty periods shall not be
interpreted as limitations on the time in which the Owner can enforce such other duties, obligations, rights, or remedies.
1. Rejection of Warranties: The Owner reserves the right to reject warranties and to limit selection to products with
warranties not in conflict with requirements of the Contract Documents.
1. Show details full size.
2. Show locations and sizes of furring, blocking, and hanging strips, including concealed blocking and reinforcing
specified in other Sections.
3. Show locations and sizes of cutouts and holes for plumbing fixtures, faucets, soap dispensers, and other items
installed in architectural woodwork.
4. Show veneer leaves with dimensions, grain direction, exposed face, and an identification number indicated for
each leaf. Identification number shall indicate the flitch and the sequence within the flitch for each leaf.
5. Apply WIC Certified Compliance Label to first page of shop drawings.
B. Documentation: Maintain detailed records on a time and material basis of work required by the Construction Change
Directive.
SECTION 01300 - SUBMITTALS
1.0 SUBMITTAL PROCEDURES
A. Coordination: Coordinate preparation and processing of submittals with performance of construction activities.
Transmit each submittal sufficiently in advance of performance of related construction activities to avoid delay.
1. Coordinate each submittal with fabrication, purchasing, testing, delivery, other submittals, and related activities that
require sequential activity.
1. Lumber with or for transparent finish, 24 by 24 inches, for each species and cut, finished on one side and one
edge.
2. Veneer leaves representative of and selected from flitches to be used for transparent-finished woodwork.
3. Wood-veneer-faced panel products, with or for transparent finish, 8 by 10 inches , for each species and cut.
Include at least one face-veneer seam and finish one-half of face as specified.
a. Step finish materials on sample to show and clearly define each coat.
4. Solid surfacing materials, 6 inches square.
5. Exposed cabinet hardware, one unit for each type and finish.
SECTION 08110 - STEEL DOORS AND FRAMES (NOT USED)
1.0 SUBMITTALS
a. The Architect reserves the right to withhold action on a submittal requiring coordination with other submittals
until all related submittals are received.
B. Shop Drawings showing fabrication and installation of steel doors and frames. Include details of each frame type,
elevations of door design types, conditions at openings, details of construction, location and installation requirements of
door and frame hardware and reinforcements, and details of joints and connections. Show anchorage and accessory
items.
C. Door Schedule: Submit schedule of doors and frames using same reference numbers for details and openings as
those on Contract Drawings.
1. Indicate coordination of glazing frames and stops with glass and glazing requirements.
a. Allow 2 weeks for initial review. Allow additional time if the Architect must delay processing to permit
coordination with subsequent submittals.
b. If an intermediate submittal is necessary, process the same as the initial submittal.
c. Allow 1 week for reprocessing each submittal.
d. No extension of Contract Time will be authorized because of failure to transmit submittals to the Architect
sufficiently in advance of the Work to permit processing.
B. Submittal Preparation: Place a permanent label or title block on each submittal for identification. Indicate the name of
the entity that prepared each submittal on the label or title block.
1.0 DEFINITIONS
SECTION 08211 - FLUSH WOOD DOORS
A. Remove: Remove and legally dispose of items except those indicated to be reinstalled, salvaged, or to remain the
Owner's property.
1.0 SUBMITTALS
1. Provide a space approximately 4 by 5 inches on the label or beside the title block on Shop Drawings to record the
Contractor's review and approval markings and the action taken.
2. Include the following information on the label for processing and recording action taken.
a. Project name.
b. Date.
c. Name and address of the Contractor.
d. Name and address of the subcontractor.
e. Name and address of the supplier.
f. Name of the manufacturer.
g. Drawing number and detail references, as appropriate.
C. Submittal Transmittal: Package each submittal appropriately for transmittal and handling. Transmit each submittal from
the Contractor to the Architect using a transmittal form. The Architect will not accept submittals received from sources
other than the Contractor.
1. On the transmittal, record relevant information and requests for data. On the form, or separate sheet, record
deviations from Contract Document requirements, including variations and limitations. Include Contractor's
certification that information complies with Contract Document requirements.
2. Transmittal Form: Use AIA Document G810.
1.1 SHOP DRAWINGS
A. Submit newly prepared information drawn accurately to scale. Highlight, encircle, or otherwise indicate deviations from
the Contract Documents. Do not reproduce Contract Documents or copy standard information as the basis of Shop
Drawings. Standard information prepared without specific reference to the Project is not a Shop Drawing.
B. Shop Drawings include fabrication and installation Drawings, setting diagrams, schedules, patterns, templates and
similar Drawings. Include the following information:
1. Dimensions.
2. Identification of products and materials included by sheet and detail number.
3. Compliance with specified standards.
4. Notation of coordination requirements.
5. Notation of dimensions established by field measurement.
6. Sheet Size: Except for templates, patterns and similar full-size Drawings, submit Shop Drawings on sheets at least
8-1/2 by 11 inches but no larger than 36 by 48 inches.
7. Initial Submittal: Submit one correctable, translucent, reproducible print and one blue- or black-line print for the
Architect's or Owner's review. The Architect or Owner will return the reproducible print.
8. Final Submittal: Submit 3 blue- or black-line prints and 2 additional prints where required for maintenance manuals,
plus the number of prints needed by the Architect or Owner for distribution. The Architect will retain 2 prints and
return the remainder.

follows:
Thickness: 0.0179 inch, unless otherwise indicated.
F. Furring Brackets: Serrated-arm type, adjustable, fabricated from corrosion-resistant steel sheet complying with ASTM C
645, minimum thickness of base (uncoated) metal of 0.0329 inch, designed for screw attachment to steel studs and steel
rigid furring channels used for furring.
1. Single-Leg Configuration: Asymmetric-shaped channel with face connected to a single flange by a single-slotted
leg (web).

G. Steel Flat Strap and Backing Plate: Steel sheet for blocking and bracing complying with ASTM A 653 or ASTM A 568,
length and width as indicated, and with a minimum base metal (uncoated) thickness as follows:
1. Thickness: 0.0329 inch, 20 gauge where indicated.
A. Product Data: For each type of door. Include details of core and edge construction, trim for openings, and louvers.
B. Remove and Salvage: Items indicated to be removed and salvaged remain the Owner's property. Remove, clean, and
pack or crate items to protect against damage. Identify contents of containers and deliver to Owner's designated storage
area.
C. Remove and Reinstall: Remove items indicated; clean, service, and otherwise prepare them for reuse; store and
protect against damage. Reinstall items in the same locations or in locations indicated.
D. Existing to Remain: Protect construction indicated to remain against damage and soiling during selective demolition.
When permitted by the Architect, items may be removed to a suitable, protected storage location during selective
demolition and then cleaned and reinstalled in their original locations.
1. Include factory-finishing specifications.
B. Shop Drawings: Indicate location, size, and hand of each door; elevation of each kind of door; construction details not
covered in Product Data; location and extent of hardware blocking; and other pertinent data.
1. Indicate dimensions and locations of mortises and holes for hardware.

3. Indicate requirements for veneer matching.
4. Indicate doors to be factory finished and finish requirements.

1.0 SELECTIVE DEMOLITION
H. Fasteners for Metal Framing: Provide fasteners of type, material, size, corrosion resistance, holding power, and other
properties required to fasten steel framing and furring members securely to substrates involved; complying with the
recommendations of gypsum board manufacturers for applications indicated.
1.2 GYPSUM BOARD PRODUCTS
A. General: Provide gypsum board of types indicated in maximum lengths available that will minimize end-to-end butt

for correction or advice in ample time to avoid delay in the manufacture and delivery of the hardware.

1.0 DESCRIPTION
1. In order to insure proper placement and fit, all hardware in connection with metal door or metal frames shall be
made to template. Templates or physical hardware items shall be furnished to manufacturers concerned, and
shall be supplied sufficiently in advance to avoid delay in the work.
2. Warranty: All hardware shall be warranted for a period of one year from date of Substantial Completion or
additionally per the provisions of warranty sections. Defects in materials and workmanship occurring during the
warranty period shall be corrected to the complete satisfaction of the architect. Re-installation of defective

B. Special Carpet Warranty: If used, submit a written warranty executed by carpet manufacturer and Installer agreeing to
repair or replace carpet that does not meet requirements or that fails in materials or workmanship within the specified
warranty period. Failures include, but are not limited to, more than 10 percent loss of face fiber, edge raveling, snags,
runs, and delamination.
C. Warranty Period: 10 years from date of Substantial Completion.
1.5 EXTRA MATERIALS
SECTION 09653 - RESILIENT WALL BASE AND ACCESSORIES
1.0 SUBMITTALS
C. Surface Preparation: Clean and prepare surfaces to be painted according to manufacturer's written instructions for
each particular substrate condition and as specified.
B. Space Enclosure and Environmental Limitations: Do not install carpet until work in space is completed and nominally
dry, work above ceilings is complete, and ambient temperature and humidity conditions are and will be continuously
maintained at values near those indicated for final occupancy.
1.2 RESILIENT ACCESSORIES
A. Rubber Wall Base: Products complying with FS SS-W-40, Type I and with requirements specified in the Resilient Tile
Flooring Schedule.
B. Cleaning: Before applying paint or other surface treatments, clean the substrates of substances that could impair the
bond of the various coatings. Remove oil and grease before cleaning.
A. Furnish extra materials described below that match products installed, are packaged with protective covering for
storage, and are identified with labels clearly describing contents.
a. Use abrasive blast-cleaning methods if recommended by paint manufacturer.
b. Determine alkalinity and moisture content of surfaces by performing appropriate tests. If surfaces are
sufficiently alkaline to cause the finish paint to blister and burn, correct this condition before application.
Do not paint surfaces where moisture content exceeds that permitted in manufacturer's written
instructions.
c. Clean concrete floors to be painted with a 5 percent solution of muriatic acid or other etching cleaner.
Flush the floor with clean water to remove acid, neutralize with ammonia, rinse, allow to dry, and vacuum
before painting.
3. Ferrous Metals: Clean ungalvanized ferrous-metal surfaces that have not been shop coated; remove oil, grease,
dirt, loose mill scale, and other foreign substances. Use solvent or mechanical cleaning methods that comply
with the Steel Structures Painting Council's (SSPC) recommendations.
a. Blast steel surfaces clean as recommended by paint system manufacturer and according to requirements
of SSPC-SP 10.
b. Treat bare and sandblasted or pickled clean metal with a metal treatment wash coat before priming.
c. Touch up bare areas and shop-applied prime coats that have been damaged. Wire-brush, clean with
solvents recommended by paint manufacturer, and touch up with the same primer as the shop coat.
1.6 INTERIOR PAINT SCHEDULE

2. Tightly adhere wall base to substrate throughout length of each piece, with base in continuous contact with
horizontal and vertical substrates.
3. Form outside corners on job, from straight pieces of maximum lengths possible, without whitening at bends.
Shave back of base at points where bends occur and remove strips perpendicular to length of base that are only
deep enough to produce a snug fit without removing more than half the wall base thickness.
4. Form inside corners on job, from straight pieces of maximum lengths possible, by cutting an inverted V-shaped

C. Place resilient products so they are butted to adjacent materials and bond to substrates with adhesive. Install reducer
strips at edges of flooring that would otherwise be exposed.
