CREDIT/HRS: 5 (30/50 Lec/Lab) MEAS& 102 TOPIC: Electronics Measurement PURPOSE: Provide application of the foundational knowledge and skills in measurement science, with a focus on Electronics, that are required to prepare for an entry level position in Manufacturing and/or related field. Upon successful completion of this course, students should reliably/correctly be able to: 1. Demonstrate safe practices and situational awareness typical of a manufacturing environment. OUTCOMES: 2.Successfully apply the appropriate concepts and principles related to electronics measurement theory and practice to include: 1.1 The selection, use and operating principles of the applicable test equipment. 1.2 Communications, reports, tables, diagrams, directions, regulations, standards, etc. 1.3 Applied math and statistics to document measurement. 1.4 Interpretation of technical illustrations and documents for specifications, measurements, and tolerances, etc. (“Specmanship”) 1.5 Select and use precision measuring and test equipment to inspect parts and devices to confirm they conform to specifications. 1.6 Inspect circuitry to confirm they conform to specifications. 1.7 Show familiarity with applicable standards, including the concept of traceability. 1.8 Compose reports using Excel and other industrial software for data collection, analysis and presentation of information. 1.9 Identify and document out of tolerance results. 1.10 Judge whether a quantity is measureable under situational conditions. 3. Demonstrate attention to detail, personal integrity, interpersonal skills, and effective communication. TIMING: ASSESSMENT MEASURES TOPICS: 1. Fundamentals of electricity and units of measurement in DC/AC applications. 2. Fundamentals of Test Equipment including selection, use and operating principles. 3. Fundamentals of physical measurement 4. Physical measurement tools and equipment 5. Documentation and calibration 6. Automated test equipment HOURS: LEC/LAB 5/10 5/10 5/5 5/5 5/10 5/10 Quizzes: Generally at the conclusion of each topic with a value range of 2050% to document student understanding and verify instructor coverage. Tests: Final exam including written and/or hands-on practicum with a value range of 15-25% to document student understanding and verify instructor coverage. Lab and Homework Assignments: Individual faculty will select for a mutually designed set of projects that assist the students’ ability to document their achievement of above listed outcomes with a value range of 25-65%.
