DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Volunteering is Great for
Everyone
Dear Corbin Members,
Volunteering isn’t just good for
the place you volunteer at; it is good for you as well.
Whether you are young or old, you bring with you
unique skills and knowledge. Young people, for example,
are often experts at Facebook and cell phones; older
ones bring skills from their work and life experiences.
Either way, volunteering can give anyone, but especially
seniors, a reason to get up the morning and to get
dressed. It provides them with a sense of
accomplishment and a feeling of satisfaction for having
helped someone. It definitely prevents isolation and
depression, is good for mental health and can even lower
the risk of health problems. Whether someone becomes
a volunteer docent at a museum or helps put on an
event at a senior center, each walks around and uses
one’s brain.
So do what is good for you and volunteer. We sure could
use you here at Corbin and other organizations can use
you as well. Don’t spend all your time in front of the TV.
You are valuable and needed, plus your health is worth
it. See page 5 for Corbin volunteer opportunities.
See you soon!
Christa

MONTHLY AUCTION ITEMS
ALL BIDS ARE FINAL JUNE 30, 2016 AT 3PM
Corbin’s Volunteer for June is Pat Hewitt. Pat was raised in Seattle. She
and her husband were married for 10 years when they moved to Montana
where Pat worked as a nurse. They then moved to
Oregon where her husband had a job. Their final move
was to Spokane.
Pat started as a volunteer in the dining room and has
since moved to the Boutique which has been a good fit.
She has been a Corbin Hiker and taken classes at Corbin
in poetry writing.
Her hobbies include poetry writing and container
gardening, which she uses to decorate the deck on the
home where she has lived for 20 years. Pat has six children, fourteen
grandchildren, and nine great-grand children. She has family living all over the
United States. Two of her daughters live in the Spokane area, one in Coeur
d’Alene and one in Spokane. Thank you, Pat, for volunteering and your
interest in the Corbin Senior Activity Center. We appreciate you.

TEA IN THE AFTERNOON
Corbin would like to thank event chair Pat Tolley for an outstanding tea
party. Pat’s loving touches could be seen
everywhere: the choice of tablecloths, the program,
the lace-rimmed vases with beautiful flowers, the
choices of food and drink which included two
delectable rolls, a fruit salad, and two desserts, and
two kinds of teas. Robinsong provided entertainment
with harp and flute,
Robinsong
and
attendees
Pat Tolley
enjoyed
hearing
familiar tunes that
took them back in time, a time when
everything was still a possibility.
Corbin would also
like to thank Corbin
member
Donna
Poeppel, Windriver Place, Costco, Heavenly Special
Teas, and The Academy for their sponsorships as well as
the many volunteers and staff members who worked
the event.
Thanks to everyone the event will remain memorable
for a long time. In fact, one attendee called and said she
is already waiting for the next Tea.

On Saturday, May 1st at a lunch with Don Kardong, she was honored
