Installation of PTV TRAFFIC SUITE with Internet-Activation
Dear student,
Thank you for choosing Vision Traffic Suite as the preferred software product for your scientific
research project.
We have already activated your license on our license server. Thus, you can immediately start
to work with the software! Please proceed as follows:

Software installation
The installation requires a license file which we have sent you by e-mail together with this
document. The according setup and an installation manual are only online available. You can
find it on our web server under:

License server setup
Our license server is publically available under:

You have to edit these two settings in the WebAdmin of the CodeMeter Runtime Kit. To do this,
please open the CodeMeter Control Center like:
Start -> Programs -> CodeMeter -> Control Center -> WebAdmin (button right bottom)
In the WebAdmin go to the “Configuration” tab where you have to edit the settings “Network
Port” and “Server Search List”.
By default, it looks like this:

To be ready to use our software, it should look like this:
Additionally, please execute the following command in the MS DOS command line. This has to
be done to adapt the system’s proxy settings to the CodeMeter Runtime Kit:
(Start -> Run As… -> cmd -> press Enter)
On 32bit OS:
“%PROGRAMFILES%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\cmu32” --detect-proxy --write --force
On 64bit OS:
“%PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\cmu32” --detect-proxy --write –force
Please reboot your PC after executing this command to make the changes effective.
Get started
Actually, you should now already be able to start the software, as far as your PC is connected
to the internet.
In case it is not working, please read the chapter „Troubleshooting“ below.
FAQs
1. How is the licensing working?
We have generated an individual license for you.
Our license works only with a dongle, a hardware like an USB stick. This dongle is
located at PTV and your license just connects to it over internet. Therefore, your
computer has to be online while working with the license.

2. What are the detailed steps for the installation?
Just read the installation manual which you can find on our web server.
In a nutshell: Start the installer for the required software, which you get from our web
server as well. This is for
PTV Visum Setup_VISUM_13.00-**_win32_Full.exe
PTV Vissim Setup_VISSIM_6.00-0*_win32_Full.exe or
PTV Viswalk Setup_VISWALK_6.00-0*_win32_Full.exe
Then, point to the license file which we have sent you by e-mail. It has the naming
pattern:
300000_VISUM/VISSIM/VISWALK_900******_*user_2014_01_31_Init.zip

• VISUM or VISSIM or VISWALK

Your individual license no.

License file; do NOT unzip it!
The installation process runs almost automatically and does not require user interaction.
Visum allows you to select some additional options (Python etc..). Finally, please reboot
your computer.
3. I have a 64bit machine
Just install the 32bit edition of the PTV software. It runs on a 64bit machine as well.
4. May I use the software from different computers?
Sure! Multiple installations are permitted. Please consider, you can start a single user
license only once in the same moment.
5. At home, it works but at the university / library / work it does not
Your internet connection at university / library / work uses a proxy. You need tos et up
this information in the CodeMeter WebAdmin (run the MS-DOS command as described
above)
6. I did not get the requested network size
Normally, we grant only network sizes up to size D which is usually enough for scientific
projects. If you need a larger network size, please ask your supervisor to contact us.
Please keep in mind, you have got a fully functional license. We do not permit
commercial use!

7. I am missing some add-on modules
Please check our web site for the available modules, discuss it with your supervisor and
send us a final request of change. Please do not forget to include your individual license
no.
8. I need help with the use of the software
Make use of the F1 online help of the PTV software. And have a look at the user
manual which is included in every installation in the Doc folder. Please understand we
cannot provide support for the free scientific research licenses.
If you have trouble with the installation, please go ahead and read the „Troubleshooting“
section.
9. I need a temporary extension of my license
Just send as a request of extension for your license. Do not forget to include your
individual license no. We expect to get a short progress report for license which last
more than one year.
10. I am finished but need to defend my thesis
You can send us a copy of your thesis as soon as you are fully finished. We prefer to
receive pdf files or CD/DVD.
11. I am having a side job. May I use the PTV software there?
Absolutely no!
The license grants only non-commercial scientific research. Keep in mind, through the
individual license no. we can track the data generated with the PTV software. We will
deactivate licenses which have been abused.
12. I am interested in the PTV software. How can I stay up-to-date?

Troubleshooting
In some cases, you will see an error message saying the dongle could not be find (here:
“license no. 900271020 not found”)
First, open the URL http://trafficlicense01.ptvgroup.com:22400/Info.html in your web browser –
the result should look like this:
In case you can see this information in your web browser, there is a basic connection from your
PC to our license server. Now, you need to ensure that the CodeMeter Runtime Kit on your PC
uses this connection. Open the WebAdmin by
Start -> Programs -> CodeMeter -> Control Center -> WebAdmin (button right bottom)
In the WebAdmin go to the tab Home and press the green button which holds the host name of
your PC. This opens a small window which shows a list of all currently available license
servers. Normally, it should include localhost (127.0.0.1) and our license server.

Are you able to find our license server with the IP address 80.146.239.241 or the name
trafficlicense01.ptvgroup.com in the list? If not, please check the settings “Network Port” and
“Server Search List” in the tab “Configuration\Network”. Then, check the proxy settings in the
tab “Configuration\Proxy” with the one from your operating system.
Repeat the MS-DOS command if necessary:
Start -> Programs -> CodeMeter -> Control Center -> Codemeter Command Prompt

Change to the directory
cd %PROGRAMFILES%\CodeMeter\Runtime\bin\ (copy & paste with right mouse button)
Enter the command
cmu32 --detect-proxy --write --force (copy & paste with right mouse button)
After this, reboot the PC to make all changes effective.
In case this is not working, please create a so called CmDust report with the following
command:
Start -> Programs -> CodeMeter -> Control Center -> Tools -> CmDust.
Please send us the file CmDust-Result.log with a short description of the problem and your
individual license no. to customerservice@vision.ptvgroup.com. We will check your issue and
come back to you as soon as possible.
