SECTION 15933 – AIR TERMINAL VOLUME DAMPERS CONSTRUCTION STANDARD___________________________________________ PART 1 - GENERAL 1.01 Purpose: A. 1.02 1.03 Description Of Work: A. Extent of air terminal volume dampers work required by this section is indicated on drawings and schedules, and by requirements of this section. They will be used as single inlet variable volume terminal or as dual inlet variable volume in conjunction with lateral tee mixing sections. B. Refer to other Division-15 sections for medium pressure ductwork for construction of terminal devices and lateral mixing tee sections. C. Refer to other Division-15 sections for temperature controls for air terminals; not work of this section. Quality Assurance: A. 1.04 Manufacturer's Qualifications: Firms regularly engaged in manufacture of air terminal volume dampers with characteristics, sizes, and capacities required, whose products have been in satisfactory use in similar service for not less than 5 years. Submittals: A. 1.05 This design guideline contained here in includes the requirements for air handler casings at The University of Texas at Austin. It is the intent to provide the highest level of quality and standardization possible. Product Data: Submit manufacturer's technical product data, including performance data for each size and type of air terminal furnished; schedule showing drawing designation, room location, number furnished, and size. Delivery, Storage, And Handling: A. Deliver air terminal volume dampers wrapped in factory-fabricated fiberboard type containers. Identify on outside of container size of air terminal volume damper. Avoid crushing or bending and prevent dirt and debris from entering and settling in boxes. B. Store air terminal volume dampers in original cartons and protect from weather and construction work traffic. Where possible, store indoors; when necessary to store outdoors, store above grade and enclose with waterproof wrapping. Construction Standards, Revised May 6, 2002 15933-1 SECTION 15933 – AIR TERMINAL VOLUME DAMPERS CONSTRUCTION STANDARD___________________________________________ PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01 Acceptable Manufacturers: A. Manufacturer: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide air terminal volume dampers of one of the following: 1. 2. 3. 4. 2.02 Krueger Mfg. Co. Nailor-Hart Ruskin Mfg. Co. Titus Products Div.; Philips Industries, Inc. Air Terminal Volume Dampers: Single Inlet And Dual Inlet Variable Volume: A. Casings: Construct of 18 ga. galvanized sheet metal, sized with female connections each end. B. Air Dampers: Construct of materials that cannot corrode, do not require lubrication, nor require periodic servicing. C. The damper blades shall be 16 ga. cold rolled, galvanized steel and shall be through bolted to the damper shafts to assure no slippage of the blades. D. The damper shafts shall be round and operate in rustproof self-lubricating bearings (not plastic). The end of the shaft at the operator end shall be scored in line with the damper blade to reference the damper blade position. E. The pneumatic actuators shall be furnished, mounted and adjusted by the terminal volume damper manufacturer. The pneumatic actuators shall be selected to operate with a 20-psi main air supply. The actuators shall be of the pneumatic piston-type with rolling diaphragm and metal body. Each operator shall be fully proportional-type to operate under normal operating conditions to guarantee closure to the position set on the linkage by the terminal unit assembly manufacturer. The pneumatic actuators shall be Johnson Model No. D-3062. The pneumatic actuators shall be Johnson Model D-3062, with a spring range of 9-13 psi. F. Dampers shall be equal to Naylor-Hart Model No. 1091-UT. G. Electric actuators shall be furnished, mounted and adjusted by the BAS contractor. Terminal volume damper manufacture shall provide mounting base on terminal unit for mounting of actuator. Actuator shall be sized for specific application with a minimum torque of 40 in-lb. and shall utilize brushless motor. Housing shall be designed for reversing rotation direction and shall have a selfcentering shaft coupling. Actuator shall be proportional control, 0-10V, spring return with maximum run time of 150 seconds and spring return time of less than 60 seconds. Maximum power draw of actuator shall be 10VA. All actuators installed throughout project shall be of the same manufacturer and model. Protect actuators from construction debris from time delivered to project, throughout construction and uRichEditWindow Construction Standards, Revised May 6, 2002 15933-2 SECTION 15933 – AIR TERMINAL VOLUME DAMPERS CONSTRUCTION STANDARD___________________________________________ H. PART 3 3.01 Until Owner accepts building. Damaged or non-operational actuators shall be replaced at no cost to the Owner. Electric actuators shall be "Siemens OpenAir Actuator GMA161”. Provide five-year parts and labor warranty on electric actuators. Warranty shall begin with final acceptance by Owner. All actuators shall be dated with day powered up. EXECUTION Installation Of Air Terminal Volume Dampers: A. General: Install air terminal volume dampers as indicated, allow room for servicing the actuator and linkage. The manual-balancing damper shall be installed upstream 4 diameters distant and the manual damper shaft shall be at right angle to the air terminal volume damper. B. Actuators: Actuators shall be mounted on channel bracket with a minimum of four set mounting screws. END OF STANDARD 15933 Construction Standards, Revised May 6, 2002 15933-3
