Course Description:
All courses have been approved by NJ Board of Electrical Contractors for continuing education requirements.
Generators Res. & Commercial -(4 hr) Backup power source
selection, sizing and installation are the topics of this course. Topics
include NEC compliance, as well as other code requirements,
installation calculations and new technologies for backup generators.
Solar Photovoltaics - (8 hr) One of the hottest new technologies
around, solar photovoltaic panels are being installed in many industrial,
residential and public facilities. This seminar discusses the technology
and applications for solar photovoltaics, as well as installation
techniques, tools, requirements and NEC compliance for solar
photovoltaic applications.
Electrical Safety - (8 hr) Electrical safety in the workplace, including
the concepts of Hazard/Risk evaluation, shock, electrocution, arc flash,
and arc blast are some of the topic to be discussed. Other topics
include Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), incident energy
calculations, safety-related maintenance requirements, Lockout/Tagout
procedures and electrical safety programs.
Motors & Motor Controls - (4 hr) A practical approach to a difficult
topic makes this course an especially useful and effective tool for anyone
who will install, monitor and/or maintain motors and motor controls.
Motor installation per 2014 NEC requirements, circuit protection, control
devices and circuits including motor starters to programmable controllers
are covered as well as NEMA and IEC control components.
VFDs - (4 hr) Variable frequency drive motors have become the most
popular type of motor for new and existing applications because of their
energy saving and soft-start capabilities. Many utilities are now offering
rebates for the installation or retrofitting with VFDs. This seminar
examines the proper selection, application and installation of VFDs.
Transformers - (4 hr) Application, sizing, selection, overcurrent
protection and installation of transformers as per 2014 NEC.
Hazardous Locations- (4 hr) Wiring methods and procedures for
classified locations, as per NEC. Includes definitions, classification
requirements, zone classifications, wiring methods, materials and
installation requirements.
Calculations I -(4 hr) Learn to make your daily calculations fast and
easy! This course includes fast and easy methods for conductor sizing,
conduit sizing, ampacity requirements, overcurrent protection, motor
loads, transformers, single phase and three phase circuits.
Examples and real life practice situations will be given to show fast
and easy methods for NEC compliance.
Calculations II -(4 hr) Three phase circuits, transformer
protection, inrush currents, harmonics, AISC ratings, short circuit
analysis and protection relays will be the focus. A necessary
course for the contractor that gets involved with jobs bigger than
“repair jobs”, and for any contractor that wants to know more.
Lighting I - (4 hr) Lighting requirements and lighting installation, as
per 2014 NEC code. Includes lighting fixture specs, installation, interior
lighting, circuit requirements, and more. Includes many practical
examples to make the job look good! Energy code requirements and
LED lighting will be a main focus.
Lighting II - (4 hr) Lighting requirements and lighting installation, as
per 2014 NEC code, this seminar focuses primarily on exterior lighting,
and parking lot lighting. Includes many practical examples. Lighting
retrofit and energy conservation will be focal points.
Your instructor:
Edward Osoliniec, PE
Grounding & Bonding I - (4 hr) The first course on grounding and
bonding that takes the confusion out of proper grounding and bonding
requirements. Includes grounding requirements, grounding electrode
installation and grounding and bonding of services. Based on the SOARES
grounding manual, and the 2014 NEC.
Grounding and Bonding II - (4 hr) Picks up where Grounding &
Bonding I leaves off. Includes grounding conductor sizing, bonding
requirements, bonding conductor sizing, raceway bonding requirements
and equipment bonding. Requirements. Includes practical examples and
calculation practice session.
Pools, Spas and Hot Tubs - (4 hr) The proper 2014 NEC requirements
for swimming pools, spa and hot tubs, will be shown, along with the proper
electrical installation techniques required for code compliance.
Estimating, Day 1 - (8 hr) Different estimating and bidding procedures,
scope of work, takeoffs, establishing material costs and labor rates,
overhead calculations and preparation of an estimate.
Electric Vehicle Chargers - (4 hr) Electrical cars are here! The
different types of charging systems, as well as planning, installataion
reqirements and NEC requirements for electric vehicle charging
systems will be presented.
Overcurrent Protection Devices - (4 hr) If you are a Residential,
Commercial or Industrial electrician, you must use overcurrent protection
devices. But do you really understand the difference between curent
limiting fuses, instantaneous circuit breakers, thermal-magnetic breakers,
protective relays and all the other circuit protectin options? A complete
understanding of the different overcurrent protecion devices and their
proper application will be presented.
Conduits & Raceways - (4 hr) Proper application, sizing, and installation
of various types of conduits, raceways, pull boxes and junction boxes,
including conductor selection, conduit fill requirements, and applications
as per NEC requirements.
Transformers and Power Distribution Workshop - (8 hr)Transformers and their associated wiring, as per the 2014 NEC, including
transformer sizing, primary and secondary overcurrent protection sizing,
and primary and secondary conductor and conduit sizing presented as a
“hands-on” workshop where actual examples are presented in class, and
solutions are found as a group. Bring your code book and a calculator!
Reliable Power and UPs -(8 hr) Reliable power for commercial,
industrial and residential applications is much more than just a backup
generator. Reliable backup systems, focusing on UPSs applications and
sizing as per NEC requirements will be presented.
Service Calculations Workshop - (8hr) Residential, commercial and
industrial service and feeder calculations in a “Hands-On” workshop style
class as per new NEC requiremnts. A great course for the apprentice, as
well as a refresher for the vereran contractor. Bring a calculator as well as
your notebook.
Wireless Control I - (4 hr) Z-wave, ZigBee and Bluetooth wireless
switches, dimmers, and controllers for residential and
commercialapplications are now mass marketed by all major electrical
device manufactures. Tecnology savvy customerswant this technology.
Get started with an underestanding of the technology as well as applications
for this booming trend.
Communications Wiring - (4 hr) NEC requirements and instalations
techniques for audio, low voltage, class I, class II, class III and remote
control wiring.
Residential Electric Audits - (8 hr) Most homeowners find their
electric bill the second highest monthly payment after their mortgage. There
are many products on the market that claim to cut your client’s energy bill,
but which ones really work? Energy efficient and green energy technologies
for residential dwellings, including home automation techniques that really
will save your client money and get you customers is the topic of this
seminar.
(Instructor #142) is involved in all aspects of electrical contracting, design, planning, project management and education. His
background includes both bachelor degree in electrical engineering and a master degree in electrical engineering from the
University of California at Berkeley. He is a licensed P.E. and a licensed electrical contractor (license #8973) in the state
of NJ. He is a CPE, Certified Professional Estimator certified by the American Society of Professional Estimators. He
has 16 years of classroom teaching experience in Electrical Engineering Technology at colleges in NJ, including N.J.I.T. He
currently has 4 patents pending for devices he developed related to the electrical power distribution industry. Edward
has combined his talents as a P.E. and electrical contractor to operate a successful electrical contracting and design business.
He consults for major corporations and municipalities for electrical systems design. In the past he presented code review
courses for major corporations for considerably more money and right now the same courses are offered to the general public
at discount prices. His age and contracting experience are not outdated.
