Please call or send an e-­‐mail to make an appointment. Course Description: This course covers the features of Microsoft® Excel 2007. Topics include creating workbooks, charts, formulas; developing functions, formatting, Web queries, What-­‐If analysis; creating static and dynamic web pages, data tables, financial schedules; creating, sorting and querying a list; creating templates; working with multiple worksheets and workbooks, object linking and embedding (OLE), using macros, importing data, and working with PivotCharts. (Dual listing MOUS 1765). Completion of CMAP 1750, CMAP 1755, and CMAP 1760 (for a total of 3 credits) is equivalent to CMAP/MOUS 1765. Goal: After successfully completing this course, students will demonstrate the ability to develop accurate, readable worksheets for a variety of business applications using critical thinking skills to independently design and create an array of workbooks using fundamental to more complex features. Outcomes: Successful completion of this course will enable students to: • Design, create, edit, format, and print worksheets, workbooks, and data tables • Work with cell ranges • Create conditional formats and print titles • Create, format, and print charts based on worksheet data • Build fundamental formulas and functions into a worksheet • Use statistical functions to enhance data representation • Add or delete rows and columns in a worksheet • Add or delete worksheets in a workbook • Apply sorting, filtering, and subtotaling Excel features to visually present data. • Create PivotTables and PivotCharts to summarize data. • Manage multiple worksheets and workbooks. • Create and apply Excel functions such as text management functions, conditional and logical functions, database functions, and date functions. • Develop an Excel application. • Use financial formulas and functions to solve financial questions. • Audit spreadsheets and trace then correct formula errors. • Perform what-­‐if analyses to evaluate data. • Import data into a spreadsheet. • Create a variety of charts. • Use Solver to find solutions and create an answer report. Methodology: This course is offered online using Moodle course management software. Students will post assignments, take quizzes and communicate with the instructor using this software. Use your Web Advisor login and password to login to Moodle (https://moodle4me.caspercollege.edu/). Evaluation Criteria: Grades will be computed on a point scale for quizzes and assignments. Points will be totaled at midterm and the end of the semester for a percentage grade. Quizzes will be given for each chapter and you will be expected to complete a mandatory final exam/project. Your final grade will be comprised of the following: 35% Homework assignments 30% Quizzes 25% Final Exam/Project 10% Subjective Factor* *A subjective assessment of attitude, initiative, accuracy and the ability to get your work in on time. Employers consider such factors to be of vital importance in evaluating employee job performance. Therefore, the letter grade you earn will reflect this aspect of your work. Casper College Computer Labs: AD Room 6 (#9-­‐15 only) and Library 205 (#8-­‐14 only) have the Microsoft® Office 2007 installed. A complete list of Casper College Computer labs and associated software can be found at http://www.caspercollege.edu/doit/index.html Class Policies: Students must submit their completed chapter assignments through Moodle. No more than two chapters may be submitted in any given week. We will be using Moodle e-­‐mail to communicate so be sure to read e-­‐mail on a regular basis. End of the chapter quizzes should be taken once a chapter is completed. Students will be allowed two attempts to take the quiz. Quizzes are timed so be sure to complete the quiz within the specified time frame. Your midterm grade will be determined based on work through Chapter 5 and must be received by midnight, October 12, 2009. All other work including chapter assignments and quizzes must be completed by midnight on the final day of classes (December 11). The final exam must be submitted by midnight on December 16, 2009. Last Date to Change to Audit Status or to Withdraw with a W Grade: November 13. directed when it comes to scheduling your time and getting the work completed. All course work except the final exam is due before but no later than the final week of classes. Students must work steadily on the course assignments; it is not permissible to submit all work at the end of the semester. If no progress has been recorded for any two week period, the instructor has the option to drop the student from the course.
