A new capability from Tri-Optic
Tri-Optic is always looking to provide better service to their
partners. Today, lead-time is becoming more and more of a critical
issue for end users who want their labels on either the same or
next day. While EDP Tri-Optic pride themselves on a very quick
turnaround from order to manufacture to end user, with worldwide
locations, shipment can take days from either the UK or the US.
Therefore, Tri-Optic is very pleased to offer “TTG - Tri-OpticToGo”
which is a capability by which partners have the ability to print
Tri-Optic labels on site to the same stringent standards as they
receive today from Tri-Optic. In this way they can offer better lead
times with same day local delivery and can cope with small label
orders as easily as the larger ones.
The Solution components
This capability uses a small number of key components which are
“Tri-OpticToGo” label production software, a Printer, label stock
and card stock. The partner has to invest in a Xerox 7760 DN
printer and have the facilities to house the printer and have trained
staff to create and print the labels with the right quality controls in
mind, while Tri-Optic provide the production software, the label
stock and the training which is only four hours at no charge. They
just charge a click charge for every label printed.

ANATOMY OF A LABEL
1. Bar Code
A bar code symbol
consists of varying
width parallel bars and
spaces. Pre-determined
width patterns are used
to represent actual data
in the symbol.
2. Code 39 (3 of 9)
Code 39 was the first
alphanumeric symbol
to be developed and
is widely used today. It
is a discrete, self-checking, variable length
symbol that has five
bars and four spaces,
making a total of nine
elements. Of these nine
elements, three are
wide and six are narrow, making Code 39
a two-width code.
3. Modified Bar Code
The alteration of
the bar code, as in
the sequence of the
characters or addition
of characters, such as
checksum characters.
4. Checksum Character
A character included
within a string of
data whose value is
used for the purpose
of performing a
mathematical check to
ensure the accuracy of
that data.

5. Sequence
The consecutive series
of numbers and alpha
characters that make
up a set of labels, the
last 2-3 digits usually
beginning with 00 or
000 and ending in 99
or 999.
(ABC000-ABC999)
6. Quiet Zone
The clear space,
containing no dark
marks, that precedes
the start character of
a bar code symbol
and follows the stop
character.
7. Media Identifier
One or more
characters used to
uniquely identify the
type of media. Used
by some library systems
to differentiate between
generations of media,
such as:
L1 - Generation 1 of
LTO Ultrium
L2 = Generation 2 of
LTO Ultrium
L3 = Generation 3 of
LTO Ultrium
L4 = Generation 4 of
LTO Ultrium
L5 = Generation 5 of
LTO Ultrium
ALPHAS
When ordering labels with alpha characters, please choose a color from the background
colors available for that specific label. For example, if you wish to order the Tri-Optic 3480
(1687-VC Vibrant) label using a specific alpha and color scheme, be sure and select your
color choices only from the vibrant background colors used in the digits for that label. Then
simply specify your choices as follows:
A = yellow, #1 B = red, #0 C = lt. green, #2 etc....
