Fire marshal’s posts are indicated by orange boards on the fencing. Openings big enough to accommodate a car are indicated by orange sections on the tire barriers and guardrail. If you have to stop on the circuit please use these wherever possible. Flag signals (Black, Black/White, etc.) will be given from the finish line gantry. The Pit Lane speed limit for practice, qualifying and the race will be 35mph. Drivers are reminded to look for the display boards which signify the control lines. When leaving the pits competitors must stay to the left of the solid line at the pit exit. Cars on the track may cross the solid line from left to right but must not cross the dotted line that separates the Pit Lane from the track. If you encounter any mechanical problem, which might cause oil or water to be deposited on the track, please leave the circuit when it is safe to do so and in every case keep clear of the racing line. Competitors are reminded not to exceed the Track Limits, particularly through Turns 4, 5, 6 & 7, 9 and also at Turn 19. Penalties may be applied in all sessions. Practice starts for GTS, TC, TCA & TCB may be undertaken at Pit Out IF SAFE TO DO SO during Practice and Qualifying. Burn Outs and Practice Starts are NOT allowed in the Pit Lane. PRACTICE & QUALIFYING Access to the circuit for Practice and Qualifying is from the Pre-Assembly Area in the paddock near to the Media Center upon instruction from the PWC staff. At the end of the session, competitors will pass the chequered flag, complete one slowing down lap and then leave the circuit through the Pit Lane. If you wish to travel slowly to get a clear lap, this must be done without hindering another competitor in any way whatsoever and please look in your mirrors. Weaving, using the full width of the track is not permitted. Competitors are reminded that if a fast lap time is set whilst having exceeded the track limits then the lap time may be removed. The Race Director will communicate this to the competitor’s team. WCV Competition Department Page 4 Drivers’ Briefing Notes Circuit of Americas, Austin TX. March 3-6 2016 Drivers’ Briefing Notes 5.00 5.01 5.02 5.03 5.04 5.05 5.06 5.07 5.08 6.00 6.01 6.02 6.03 6.04 6.05 7.00 7.01 7.02 7.03 7.04 RACES Each race is to a fixed time, not a specific number of laps. Cars will be pre-assembled by the Media Center and then moved into the Pit Lane before proceeding onto the circuit for 1 lap behind the Pace Car. Any car that fails to leave the Pit Lane in its correct position or that falls behind during the Formation lap must drop to the rear and must start from the Pit lane. Please keep the formation lap as tight and as quick as possible. All races will be rolling starts except Race 2 for GTS, TC, TCA & TCB. For standing starts cars will proceed to the grid where one team member is allowed on the Pit wall to set the car. The red lights will go on and then 4-6 seconds later they will go out which signifies the start of the race. For rolling starts, if the cars are formed correctly the Pace car will enter the Pit Lane and the leading car sets the pace at 50-55mph into the Acceleration Zone. A Green Flag signifies the start of the race. Racing begins throughout the field at that time. More than one change of direction to block another car is officially prohibited. Any competitor moving back towards the racing line, having earlier defended his position off-line, must leave at least one car width between his own car and the white line at the edge of the track. At the end of the race competitors will pass the chequered flag, complete one slowing down lap and then leave the circuit through the Pit Lane. FLAGS Drivers are reminded that waved yellow flags are a warning of danger and mean that there is a car stopped beside or partly on the track. Drivers are to reduce speed and be prepared to change direction if necessary. Overtaking is forbidden. Double waved yellows are used for a Full Course Caution and mean that there is car wholly or partly blocking the track and possibly with marshals working on or besides the track. Drivers must reduce speed significantly and be prepared to change direction or stop. Overtaking is forbidden. You are reminded that if waved yellow flags are shown at the start then this is to signify that a car has stalled or is moving very slowly – it is not a Full Course Yellow. A waved blue flag in the race will normally only be shown to a car about to be lapped. This car must give way at the earliest opportunity. If a driver overtakes another competitor when the On Board Safety Light is on or if yellow flags are being shown then the place must be given back. SAFETY CAR The Safety Car will be deployed from the Pit Lane. Double Waved Yellow Flags will be displayed around the circuit. All cars must slow down immediately. All cars must remain within five metres of the car in front. Slower classes are to keep to the right so that faster classes may pass on the left. Cars may be ‘Waved By’ under the instruction of the Safety Car personnel. Drivers must only proceed one car at a time to avoid confusion. When the incident is clear then Race Control will instruct that the Safety Car lights be switched off. The leading car controls the pace once the Safety Car departs. Racing resumes once the Green Flag is shown.
