Every HD Relay camera client has different project needs which is why we developed
our ProBuild camera hardware solution service group. With ProBuild you get more than
just a camera from HD Relay. Each system piece of our live camera hardware is custom
configured, tested, set up, packed up, and post install calibrated to insure quality
and networks are optimum. Since ProBuild is included with your HD Relay hardware
package there are no additional fees.
HD Relay ProBuild reduces install time - typically our customers can save few hours or
even days depending on system complexities. Since every camera system is built to
order and pre-configured to your project, your teams installation is generally as easy as
unpacking, securely mounting in place, connecting power, attaching the network cable,
and then simply calling us to finalize the camera system. With
ProBuild on the job, the camera install can be greatly simplified;
reduced onsite labor needed while still keeping your local team
involved and in the know if anything goes wrong later.

Our business of provisioning live video systems for online viewing, recording, and marketing was created out of
a brief meeting in 1995 on a remote beach in southern Costa Rica. The meeting between our CEO and a Yahoo
contractor lasted only about 10 minutes, however what was discussed remained as the basis of what HD Relay is
today. During that meeting the concept of using networked web based cameras and computers to view and interact
online with remote beaches, travel destinations, action sports resorts, and wildlife was discussed in only general
details. By 1995 we were missing a few key technology pieces -- A reliable video compression standard and an
affordable yet fast network uplink needed to deliver the video streams back into our remote servers. It wasn't until
1998 that we were able to launch what was likely to be the first live 320x280 user controllable 10 fps plus pan
tilt zoom live camera in the western United States. This pioneering controllable camera system was named after
the Hamel's brothers in San Diego, CA (a landmark business who commissioned the camera) that quickly become
known as the iconic Hamelcam of the late 1990's. After more than 17 years HD Relay
has become much more than a live camera host. We have grown to include
worldwide relay server footprint, patents, specialty camera hardware,
and our brand new IC|HD™ platform. Our live systems are used
worldwide for streaming, time-lapse, recording, live audio, ultra
high resolution panoramic, and even mobile video solutions for
vehicles.

Using live cameras as a marketing tool became the popular “new
way” to promote businesses online. In 2012 HD Relay pushed the IPbased video world even further with advanced live options (including
hosted HD 1080P, and in-screen augmented reality) for businesses,

LIVE CAMERA TECHNOLOGY:

Not so long ago, live online camera technology
consisted of a single low resolution image
that refreshed once a minute. Remarkably,
many “live cameras” or “webcams” still
use this same method to promote beaches,
businesses, and other attractions.
What we did in 1999 still holds today. Having the ability to control
a camera from anywhere around the world is amazing even in today’s
technological age. This ingenuity is what has allowed us to build a truly
world class video solution. Over time we have been building upon that
foundation while increasing video resolution, quality, and stream-ability.
STREAMING HARDWARE REQUIRED TO GO LIVE
Choosing the right camera hardware plays an important role in making your live project high-quality, and will also keep that same high-quality for years to
come. Cameras that have provided the grainy video footage we’ve all seen on the news and online were once clear, properly white-balanced, and usable.
Over time CCD sensors degrade and become damaged or ungrounded, resulting in low-quality, grainy video. Today’s newer generation of video sensors,
camera boards, compression codecs, software and lenses help to make live HD video viable and affordable. The HD Relay hardware team has the longest
running expertise in hosted live camera solutions, design, and network based security camera market places. While we understand every project is
unique, there are some general items to consider:
CAMERA HARDWARE SELECTION TIPS:
• Use only name-brand cameras - avoid low cost cameras that
come bundled with DVR’s (e.g. “Costco” type video solutions).
• IP cameras used for security surveillance have the highest image
quality and option sets (such as H.264).
• Invest in quality IP68 (world-proofing aginst water, dust, and insects)
temperature rated protective housings for modern cameras sensitive
to heat and cold (Dotworkz.com has the highest rated environmental
camera enclosures on the market).
• How is the camera powered? Solar, PoE, line voltage and wind options
can help reduce cost and increase camera placement options.
NETWORK TIPS:
Tips to assist your network resource planning.
• Test the upload, and do not rely solely on advertised speeds (simply
Google “bandwidth test” and several options will be available for
quick, reliable testing)
• Check upload speeds at different times of the day to insure QoS (Quality
of Service)
• Assure there are no firewalls blocking or restricting ports 80 and 8080
• Consider dedicating your Uplink with a proper VLAN (Visual Local Area
Network) or a separate provider to insure speed consistency
