The Discovery Academy uses scientific practices to engage in experimentation which
helps students develop a deep understanding of the world around them. Emphasizing

The Museum Academy – Formerly known as the Charter School for Young

The Museum Academy provides a constructivist approach to teaching a culturallydiverse, humanities-based curriculum, infused with museum resources and
expeditions. Students develop strong, critical thinking, interpersonal and academic

University of Hartford Magnet School boasts a unique curriculum inspired by Dr.
Howard Gardner’s Theory of Multiple Intelligences. This theory of education
encourages students to explore many different avenues in learning including visualspatial, logical-mathematical, linguistic, musical, bodily-kinisthetic, interpersonal,
intrapersonal, and naturalistic intelligences. This approach ensures that students
are both challenged and supported in their learning. Students expand their
horizons through opportunities that exist with the school’s partnership with the
University of Hartford and its programming.

CREC’s Montessori Magnet School guides students through learning with the
principles inspired by Dr. Maria Montessori. The principles encourage respect,
independence, curiosity and diversity through nurturing an exceptionally vibrant

Reggio inspired learning pairs high-challenge with loving support by implementing
the values crafted by the Reggio Emilia philosophy from Italy. This approach to
learning encourages children to have control over the direction of their learning. In
addition, it provides them the experience of learning through touching, moving,
listening, seeing, hearing and exploring their relationships with other children and
with material items in the world around them.

East Hartford Glastonbury Magnet School prepares students for life in the culturally
diverse, technology-oriented, interdependent world of the 21st Century. Students
work together as explorers of knowledge, with a strong focus on science and
technology. Taking advantage of children’s exceptional capacity for language,
children are taught Japanese language and customs, teaching them to be
sensitive, effective, thoughtful communicators.
